Lucille’s has undergone a monumental renovation over the past few months: new carpet, machines, and a crossfit-​style workout area. Worth the price of membership and more.

Gotta say, the staff at this gym seriously need a class in customer service. When I go there during the week, it’s like observing a high school clique. They have their favorites and their non-​favorites. Tell them «Good morning» and they give you a snarly look.
Kudos to the hard working woman who cleans the machines and restrooms though. She never sits. Thanks to her the place is pretty much sanitized.
And at $ 19/​month, it’s still very affordable when all you want is a straightforward workout.

I’ve been at this gym for many years and the carpet is really bad they need to change it ASAP. It caused me a skin rash and it’s gross. There should be wooden floors.

This gym deserves –5 stars. First there are never hand wipes/​antibacterial wipes. The equipment sucks. The machines are old, falling apart and barely work, plus there’s only one or two machines to use that work out the same part of the body. The water fountain barely works. When you complain to the front desk, their response is «construction is being delayed». And yes I read the comments «if you don’t like it go elsewhere» but it’s my gym and I feel most comfortable here. I’m paying money, Why can’t it be a decent gym?! And last but not least, some of the ladies there can use an attitude adjustment.

I love the fact that its a women gym and you can go and work out in peace without men looking at what you are wearing, I also love the price ladies if you have so much negative comments on the gym just don’t go people are just never satisfied its a pretty good gym great classes and great price what more can you ask for does not matter what gym you attend the important thing is to be motivated to either tone up or loose the weight…

C’mon, ladies. Pull it together. Firstly, this gym is fine if you just want the basics. They need to put in double the cardio machines, though because you can never get on a treadmill. The classes are good but try getting a trainer– you’ll never get a phone call back. It almost feels like they are doing things half way here. They sell water for $ 1 but they don’t bother to unpack it from the cardboard case so your digging into a box in the fridge to grab one. They aren’t open super early or super late which isn’t helpful to someone who works late and their true variety of classes are during the weekdays not on the weekends. Maybe if they invested some money into the gym equipment (and it’s bathrooms!) I’d be more inclined to use it for more than just classes. Since it’s so inexpensive I train at another neighborhood gym and use Lucille for the classes. Oh and PS: The pictures of the gym is not the one in Bay Ridge!

I was looking for an inexpensive gym for a while where I would feel comfy. Its totally Lucille Roberts. Enough working out machines, enough treadmills. I love group classes, even though its crowded. I love zumba.
ROXY is THE BEST EVER. She keeps me so motivated. I am ready to take her classes 3 hrs in a row. Just afraid I’d die after it. She really makes ladies work out… She has so much energy, its unbelievable.
JoJo is great. Very nice and outgoing. I enjoy her classes a lot!
Marisa is great for boot camp classes, she is not letting you being lazy, she screams, she makes you work. I love it about her! Sometimes you need someone to kick your butt…
One star down for the front desk ladies. They might be a bit more welcoming and smily.

Let me begin by saying. I have been a member for 2 years. and have had the opportunity to be involved in several instructors’ classes. Roxie. Zumba. amazing. energetic. and a great way to a positive cardio workout. you leave with a smile. and feeling great. My all TIME FAVORITE TRAINER. Marissa. OMG. my body changed and you work out hard. its a class that is intense. and if you can hang in there. you will see each week your body change. she knows what she is doing. and pushes you. in a positive humorous way… and feel amazing. when we work out. she gives suggestions on eating. and on daily changes. I like that… she goes around and corrects your form. and makes sure you benefit from the work out to the fulliest. that is what it is about.
So thank you for Roxy and Marissa. they made this gym. worth going to.

I joined this gym for the classes. One of the instructors, who does most of the classes, is absolutely horrible. I’m afraid to ask her name because not only is she a bad instructor, her personality is horrendous.
She is a little plump in weight and has dark hair. She is lazy, she doesn’t demonstrate the moves, just says to watch the girls upfront. I never break a sweat with her classes.
I wasn’t going to write a review but I actually spoke to her and her personality is just awful. I had a week free pass for a friend. I met my friend at the desk and this awful instructor was at the desk. This instructor was in the middle of yelling at one of her employees and completely ignored us. My friend said «I have a free pass» the instructor replied «so?» I was embarrassed. The whole interaction this lady gave us an attitude. Then unfortunately, she was instructing the class. My friend was so turned off she decided not to join.
The gym itself is ok. Pretty basic equipment. It’s usually clean. Twice they ran out of those wipes that you use to disinfect the equipment, pretty nasty. All in all, you get what you pay for.

I just started a few weeks ago. Everyone is very friendly & helpful. The classes are great. You have to sign up for the machines. Zumba class gets full so get there early to get a good spot. They change up the routines in the classes which I enjoy. It’s not a huge gym but I feel very comfortable & it’s a great fit for me. The price is great.

I’ve been coming here for over 2 years. During that time, I’ve developed friendships here that have been taken outside the gym. Is it a perfect place? No. Neither is my home. Instructors: Everyone will tell you that Roxy is the best Zumba instructor and fitness instructor and how outrageous she is. She is all of that and then some. But if you discount Jojo on both of those counts you are cheating yourself. She’s fantastic. I read somewhere here that someone wasn’t thrilled with her class. That’s crazy. Angela, Marissa and Maryanne are fantastic. The fact is that they care; A lot. This is my home away from home and there’s a reason for that. Bottom line; Best gym ever

Im going to be honest here about this gym.
You cant beat the price. $ 19 a month down and NO contract. You cant beat that. I like the fact that I know that I can quit at any time and not be penalized for it.
The machines and equipment they have are good but its just NOT enough. You have to «sign up» for the treadmill and the elliptical and you only get 30 minutes on the machine. You can rest assure that there will be someone trying to kick you off of the machine once the 30 minutes is up which is very irritating. Stopping in the middle of my workout is not cool.
As far as the classes they are «okay». Ive seen some really good instructors and some others who were not qualified to be instructing any class at all but hey, you get what you pay for! Let me not forget to mention the bathroom is really sketchy. Not clean and a really gross feeling actually. Makes me feel like back in HS in the girls bathroom. If your willing to dish out the money for a gym Id suggest going somewhere else but if your on a budget or you just don’t frequent the gym too often this will do!

I went here because I saw an online special for $ 1 for a two week trial. When we got to the gym. we were greeted by the manager, Melissa. She was super friendly and helpful.
She told us about the prices and basically the $ 1 special was an online only promotion but she said if we were to sign up, it’ll be roughly $ 17/​month. Since we weren’t sure if we wanted to sign up, she said we can stay for the day to see how we like the gym.
The first thing I noticed about this gym is that you have to sign in to use the machines. Basically what that means is that everyone has 30 minutes to use the machines and when your time is up, you need to get off to let the next person on. I had no problem with this.
Finally we went inside and I was NOT impressed. This gym lacked equipment! I understand that women don’t really use many machines but when I say LACKED, I mean there’s roughly around 5 treadmills, 5 ellipticals, 2 chest machines, 2 leg machines.
There’s a big space for their «classes» but the thing is the instructor does not teach you anything. Since most of the people are members of this gym for so long, they know the steps and routine for the class but what about the ones that JUST joined? I tried the class with my two friends and we did not know WHAT was going on. There were 4 – 5 other girls that were just as confused as us. They didn’t even finish the class and left half-​way.
I am not impressed with this gym whatsoever. The only reason why I would give even 1 star is because Melissa was super nice.

When a gym is only seventeen bucks a month, you know you can’t expect a luxurious– like environment. Not saying this place is a dump, BUT I’ve definitely seen better and a lot more modernized gyms. Anyway, a work out is a work out. Lucille offers the typical weights and machines but what makes Lucille different is that it’s an ALL WOMen gym and they offer a great support system with great classes. Which makes me come back 3 – 4 days a week to break a sweat.
A big plus, is that they provide a babysitter service on the side ** YAY. I have a 1 and a half year old… omg, what a relief to have them watch my baby for $ 2 an hour. Locker room is very spacious and CLEAN.
But I do got to say one thing, when I came to sign up for this gym, the girl in the front desk was NOT very attentive to me as a new customer. She didn’t bother showing me around. She had a very *whatever* attitude like as if saying, You want to be a member or not? If not dont waste my time”…She’s lucky Ive been a Lucille member 10 years ago, so I pretty much know what it’s about. So they need to work on their customer service a little bit more.

I am not a regular at this LR but I come here whenever I bring my car in for service around the corner.
I’ve been to this location several times and its is never as crowded as other LR locations are. There is definitely a good reason why it’s never crowded… the class instructors are the worst I’ve ever seen.
I have tried morning classes with Melissa… the worst!
I guess I’ll have to stick to a machine workout whenever I got to this location.

YAY. The club replaced the old hand dryer with a motion-​sensor hand dryer.

the gym is very crowded espcially at night and thats starting 5pm — 8. unfortunately its only open until 9 and on weekend it closes around 1. Thats crazy whereas other gyms have much better hours. zumba is a good class but gets crazy packed to a point where everyone is on top of each other. in the winter it was probably 100 ppl in there. the machines are always crowded too and there is no point of signing up bc its at least an hour wait so i just jump after the first 10 minutes if smne doesnt show up they ahve the rule you can take their spot. the sauna is dirty and i dont get why women wear clothes in there and dont bother taking off their shoes. the locker rooms needs ot be expanded because in the winter there is not enough lockers for everyone. the only reason i give it 3 stars is because of the cheap price. but otherwise im switching to a different gym. they need to have better house and offer more zumba classes so people dont faint. !

I did not expect too much from the club because it is extremely affordable. I was relieved to find out that at this location the step aerobics class is very good, at some other locations the step combination simply does not exist or is very small. The body conditioning class that I took was not bad. In this gym some zumba instructors are facing us instead of facing the mirror, consider it my personal opinion, but. i think it is easier to follow the footwork and direction if the instructor is facing the mirror. I never seen any dance or zumba instructors in other places facing people for the duration of the class. But as i mentioned earlier i do not know what other people think about that. I wish they had better equipment, but I will keep going to this gym, at least for now.

I don’t see what anyone could possibly complain about. Sure the rug is gross, and the locker room is in desperate need of renovation, and there are not enough machines for the PM crowd. But… you get what you pay for and for $ 27 a month, I wouldn’t expect a NYSC atmosphere.
I find *most* of the classes pretty enjoyable, and the classes Roxy heads are a particular ass-​kicking good time.
Like I said, for the money, Lucille is as good as it gets.
ETA: 1 star off for the classes taught by a perfectly cordial but highly apathetic long-​time employee. The classes she «teaches» are dreadfully boring and I always leave half way through.

It was summer and I wanted to join a gym and I’m no longer a college student so I can’t use my college gym either (not that I ever used it), so I was on a mission to find the right gym for myself and I did a lot of research and I chose Lucille Roberts and here are the reasons why.
Reason #1
After trying out/​researching nearby gyms such as Crunch!, YMCA, and NYSC, Lucille Roberts had the best price. There’s a $ 40 registration fee, then a $ 20 monthly rate (rate changes depending when you sign up), and every 6 months a maintained fee, I forgot the rate, because I’ve only used this gym for 4 months. Oh if you cancel, you get charge for the current month and next month, which wasn’t a big deal for me. So the total I spent for this gym was $ 120. Not too bad right? It’s even cheaper if you pay for an entire year, but I travel and go places, so I don’t need an entire year, so it really depends on you.
Reason #2
I’m a class person, not a machine person. The only machines I do use are the treadmill, the elliptical, the ab machine, and that is it and Lucille Roberts has enough of those machines for me so I am happy. I mainly came here for the Zumba classes because I LOVE Zumba and pretty much didn’t care for the other classes. They had Zumba 4 – 5 times a week and I went 3 – 4 times a week and got my moneys worth. Often times I would try out the other classes. The instructors are really great and the employees are nice. The Zumba instructors are all really fit.
Reason #3
This gym is mainly a class gym, the setup is as follows: you walk in, the front desk, the left, locker rooms, shower room, bathroom, and sauna room. The right, the big class area, a row of treadmill, a row of elliptical, and other machines that surrounds the class area, which I think is a pretty good setup. Overall, I love this gym and these are my top 3 reasons. There are people of all ages from high school to grandma.
NOTE: I had no problems trying to cancel my membership, guess I was lucky. I called the first time and it was busy, so I waited another day and tried again and it took only a minute to cancel. I’m planning to rejoin this gym in the coming summers. And obviously this is all women’s gym and there are no men. So if you’re looking to meet men this is NOT the gym for you.
