This place was an awful experience. I ordered 2 chicken gyro platters and a few samosas at 11pm, an hour before they closed. A few minutes later grubhub refunded me for the samosas but the restaurant didn’t bother to call, just a strange refund notification from grubhub. The delivery came half an hour after we ordered but the food was just horrible. Both chicken platters were soggy and the rice was really undercooked. This was my first and last time ordering. Save yourselves the trouble and just order from the other gyro café. I feel like I just threw $ 20 into the toilet.

I recently got a falafel sandwich for myself, and chicken gyro for my wife. Her response to the gyro was literally«meh.» My falafel tasted strangely of fish, which either means cross contamination or super-dirty fry oil. Either way, not good, particularly for a vegetarian dish. The stars are for the kind staff. I love middle-eastern food, and wish that I could love this place.

I came here with my girlfriend a few weeks ago off of a recommendation from a friend. First thing you notice when you step in is that it’s quite the small establishment. There’s a small table on the back wall with about 4 high chairs and that’s about it. The rest of the space is dedicated to the fridge and the grill and stove. My girlfriend likes to examine the menu pamphlet before ordering at the counter and noticed a gyro combo that was quite appealing in price that came with a free drink. The owner, or at least the person who seemed to be the owner took our order but quickly told us with a half hearted smile that the special printed on his menu no longer applied and that, «he’s been meaning to change to new menus for a while now.» How nice. At the very least he did say he’d honor it for us and relay the order and price change to his cooks. He then promptly left on an apparent delivery. We sat waiting at their small elevated for around 15 minutes before I decided to ask about our order. To no surprise the cooks knew nothing about our order but did quickly begin to prepare it one they knew. Once our gyros finally arrived it was immediately apparent that there was a heavy portion of meat provided, but a lack of white sauce to go along with it. We both made note of how salty the lamb was but at how fresh and tasty the greens were inside. Unfortunately the high salt content in the lamb killed any positivity we had about the dish. I had my fill and was prepared to leave but my girlfriend noticed a nutella banana strawberry shake on their menu and instantly decided that she must have it. They moved quite slowly in preparing it and when we finally received the item and paid, she quickly made note of the difference in price between what the menu said and what we were actually charged. When she brought this to the attention of the person who rang us up he simply smiled and said that the menu was supposed to be changed and should be changed at some point. Still, shouldn’t we get the price shown? Isn’t that false advertising? He merely shrugged his shoulders and assumed saying there was nothing he could do. Angrily, we walked out of that cramped establishment being suckered out of 2 extra dollars. What made it worse was that there was little to no nutella in that shake! Way to kick me while I was down…

Update: I had to come back to straighten things out(I was VERY hangry when I wrote the original review). Their food is delicious(have had falafel and chicken over rice), so recommend it. Portions are big, prices are cheap and quality is good! However, I have not ordered for delivery since and you may be better off picking it up yourself.

We placed a delivery order through grub hub for a chicken and rice platter and a lamb/chicken over rice platter. Two hours later, our order arrives as a chicken gyro instead of a chicken over a rice. We were very disappointed because the food is good but we shouldn’t have to wait two hours when we live around the corner and receive the wrong order at that. Also we could not reach anyone by phone because the line was busy. I will not order from them again.

Ever since this place opened, I was interested in what they would bring to the neighborhood. I remember the first time I visited, I ordered a lamb sharmwa. Wow it was packed with so meat, it was leftovers the next day. And at a reasonable price! Last time I visited, I ordered on Seamless for a pickup. I got a lamb over rice, with pita, for around $ 8? When I arrived to pick it up, the guy was so kind and thoughtful in estimating what time I would arrive so to cook my food by the time I arrived. Luckily he was just putting it in the box. When I went home, oh man, I enjoyed the hell out of it. Everything was cooked perfectly(lamb, moist and seasoned; rice, moist and nicely flavored — and not hard or dry at all; all the veggies added a nice, fresh crunch to all the meat and pita in the dish). Definitely ask for the hot sauce(if you like spicy). It was a lot of food, so again, it became leftovers the next day. This is one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. I will continually support them. Great food, great prices, and great, awesome guys who work there. P. S. Judging by the menu, they serve breakfast too? Oh man, gotta try that out soon.

This place is great! The food is fresh, the place is clean and the people are friendly. I am so happy to have stumbled onto them recently. It’s my new fave place to grab a quick lunch or a late night snack. They have some of the best falafel I’ve had and as far as this neighborhood goes they are the most exciting thing to have happened in the 2+ yrs. I’ve lived here. Thanks NY Gyro!
