ESP Parking

DO NOT PARK HERE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A SUNY DOWNSTATE STUDENT! I got kicked out of the lot today because I had a friend in the car who was not the «primary driver.» If you are a student, you need a reliable spot and no added stress, go somewhere else.
Just get the $ 30/​month parking through the school.
ESP costs $ 175 per month, which is ridiculous enough. The owner, Barbara, is absolutely vile and disrespectful. She will seem nice at first, but a few months in you start to get emails if you park too close to the line, or too far back (it doesn’t matter if you are actually in the spot itself). If something comes up with your car for any reason, you can not bring another car into the lot, so you are out of luck for parking if your car is in the shop.
Also, you can not take out your phone in the parking lot, or she will come chase you down.
Today, I was going to a restaurant with some friends, and I was driving them, so they entered the lot to come to my car. Barbara came out and yelled at all of us for ten minutes non-​stop because we are apparently not allowed to have friends on the lot, only the «primary driver.»
Later, my car began to overheat, since it was 96 degrees out today, and I needed to quickly pull into a shady spot for two minutes. I was already extremely stressed from my car overheating, and Barbara came running out to my car to ask why I wasn’t parked in my spot. I tried to explain that my spot is in the hot sun, and I only needed two minutes in the empty spot to cool down my car, but she kept interrupting me and wouldn’t let me explain. She then saw that my friend was still in my car, and said that it was the last straw. She took back my clicker and permit, and said that I am not allowed to park there anymore. She threatened to call the police if we didn’t leave. (Mind you, we weren’t exactly fighting back. The three of us in the car are very calm, non-​argumentative people and were just trying to explain the situation.)
Students, it’s not worth the stress. School is going to be tough enough, don’t put up with this b.s., especially when you are paying that much.
UPDATE: She called me on my cell phone an hour after I wrote this review to harass me about the review. If she calls me again I’m getting the police involved for harassment.

If I could give a negative rating, I would. The Unilocalers who describe «bad service» and a «vile» owner don’t do this place credit. This was my first month parking there and when I went to take my car out this morning it wouldn’t start. I flagged down a livery driver in an effort to get a boost and the owner, seeing him enter, went ballistic. When the car wouldn’t start, and I realized I’d need a tow, that’s when it went from bad to worse. She didn’t want to let a tow driver in, and when he did come in, wouldn’t let us leave. I had to call the police to get out. I know this sounds insane because … well, it is. This is my first time Unilocaling but I thought it was a story that needed to be told.

I have been parking with ESP for almost a year now.
This is the cheapest parking lot you can find around Downstate University. Safe, clean, and roomy.
For those we want to visit either Kings County or Downstate University Hospital, it is definitely a great place to park.
Yes, the number of email can be too many! But it is a great reminder of your payments.

The owner is vile.
I’m a medical student and driving to school was a very convenient way to go. I looked around for places to park and at first ESP looked like a great option. But I was totally wrong.
The owner is very unprofessional, aggressive, rude and absolutely disrespectful. She has rules which change as much as the recent weather, and if you leave her your contact, she will call you excessively. She will try to hook people in with coupons and initial friendliness, but as time goes on, she’ll get tired of you and become vitriolic. I don’t know what it is, but I was parking there with no problem for several months. I had minimal contact with the staff since I was in the 24 hour lot. But a couple of months ago, the owner’s constant emails became just too much. To add on top of that, she and her staff began to call me continuously early in the morning demanding to know the precise time that I will come in with the payment. I mean, I always come in on the last day of the month to pay, what has changed?
Then during hurricane Sandy, not only did she demand that I drive hours to the area to pay her my monthly bill, totally disregarding the impact Sandy may have had on our friends and family, she was rude about it too. That was the last straw, and I left.
She’s pretty famous around the locals apparently for her demeanor. So for you newcomers, feel free to try it out and you’ll probably end up with the same story. Don’t recommend your friends. Don’t do them a disservice.

Although the location is very convenient for SUNY Downstate, the staff is extremely rude when you decide to end your monthly parking. They are very strict in their policies, however they violated their own policy as stated below:
«Please notify ESP Parking 2 weeks prior if you are leaving by email. The clicker and permits must be returned to our main office on your last day of that month. Mandatory»
by mandating me to return the clicker and permit the very next day even though i had 15 more days left of the month. The staff is not friendly and will make policy changes as she wish so beware. I was courteous and following policy when I called in the middle of month to inform the establishment that I will no longer be parking with them. I would definitely not recommend any of my fellow student or friends to park there anymore
