I came to Chez Oskar because it was recommended to me from someone who’s come there a lot and spoke very highly of it. It was a Sunday, so my boyfriend and I decided to try it for brunch. We got there and didn’t have a reservation, but it was good because when we got there their was no wait. They had indoor and outdoor seating, but we sat inside because it was kinda cold. The décor in there is sooo cute, it had a very antique like vibe, I loved it. Our waitress was nice, she came over and gave us menus and we ordered some drinks. As a entrée I ordered the eggs which came with fries and a side salad, and my boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich that came with fries. The food was pretty good, but the entrée sizes were not big at all, so they weren’t plentiful. They don’t offer an unlimited option or a discounted price for cocktails at brunch time which kinda sucked. Because of the entrée size and not having a cocktail options, I don’t think I would come back for brunch. I would consider coming back for dinner, maybe those entrees would be bigger.

That lamb burger and those truffle fries… my oh my. I havent tried anything else here because every time I come that is what I want! So good, it’s a cute little place to sit outside in fall/spring/summer months and watch the basketball games nearby. Service is always great. I get the hint that it is family run. Manager or owner is always there and pleasant. She may have just had a baby, if so, congratz. She is always so helpful and sweet.

My sister and I had a certificate for this place. A much better choice than anything else out there. We had mussels with fries, onion soup and cock au vin. All were pretty good. They weren’t the best we have ever tried, but not bad at all. The atmosphere is very nice, very old style French. I think the wine is overpriced and the restrooms need an upgrade. But overall, it is a very nice place to go to especially on your way to BAM since it is a 10 min walk.

Excellent food. Exceptional service! Came in with party of 5 an hour before dinner service. The house did everything possible to make us comfortable & accommodate us with drinks and appetizers prior to dinner service. Staff was friendly and attentive, even providing us with house shots. Enjoyed our time immensely. Great bistro atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Chez oskar is an oldie but goodie used as a set for many an indie film slash neighborhood brunch standby that cutely calls itself Le Funky Bistro slash perfect go to spot after an hour or so at Fort Greene park with your toddler. The latter description was the reason we visited Le funky bistro during the summer. Exhaustion had taken over me. I was in need of «snack», something to drink of course, and he a pick me up after all that trike riding, and a place to potty of course. The super fine people at Chez Oskar were good enough to let us in, despite preparing to close for a private event. We promised that it would just be snacks and it was. One fruit salad and two glasses of wine later and we were ready to leave comfy Chez Oskar to head back to our heavy heat reality.

I would love to give Chez Oskar a good review since it’s in my neighborhood. But despite it’s cute décor a friendly staff, it’s troublesome that I’ve gotten sick from eating there(from something as simple as a nicoise salad), and, disturbingly, discovered a live cockroach in the washroom, which is just across from the kitchen. Really unfortunate.

Still no word or accountability for the jacket that they said they found then and held for me and then was stolen by a staff member. So disappointed by the lack of respect and common decency toward their customers.

If you want consistently good food this is the place. Chez Oskar is a main stay in Fort Greene and we’ve been coming here for more than 15 years. The service is always fun and friendly, and the food is consistently good. on a recent night they had a hake fish special, and the fish was super fresh, cooked perfectly and served with tender string beans. Delicious. Other favorites are the Fort Greene Salad, the Mussels, the French Onion Soup, The salmon burger and so much more. The fries are yummy.

First time here to wish a friend farewell on her journey out of Brooklyn. My kiddo had a kids burger which was really big and pretty good. I had the chicken stew ½ order and it was relish. The wine was nice. Drinks are all $ 10 or $ 12 It seemed. The place had a great atmosphere and the staff were all very attentive and nice. Will return.

Very nice place. We just stumbled on this place for a Sunday Brunch and was pleased with our choice. you have the option of inside and outside setting which is nice as well. I order the hanger steak(med well) with my eggs a lil runny however my steak well done and my eggs were fried hard. Although it wasn’t what I wanted the food was still good. I don’t have any complaints about this place.

After working only a block from here for nearly a year and seeing it on an episode of TLC’s Return to Amish, I finally made some time to stop in… and boy was I happy we did! This is a cozy, funky french restaurant with a nicely decorated interior, cozy bar, and ample seasonal sidewalk seating. They accept open table reservations which is a plus in the winter months when the small dining area gets crowded. They also are on seamless if you don’t want to leave the comfort of your apartment but do want to enjoy some delicious food. As for the food, I am in love with the coq au vin and the mushroom risotto… both are out of this world! They have smaller portions for both as well(the bartender told us to ask as they aren’t both on the menu) if you want to try each or want a small bite. They have a live music schedule if that’s up your alley, as well as some nightly specials(all you can eat mussels on Tuesday, discounted wine on Wednesdays). An FYI, some weekend evenings they have a burlesque dancer performer that arrives around 9… we haven’t been there for this but probably good to keep in mind if you’ll be dining at this time with a more conservative crowd! It’s well advertised(both outside the restaurant and on the table signs).

A very cute looking place(perhaps cuter than most in this neighborhood) with a Tuesday AYCE moules frites special. Came early on a weeknight and were seated quickly. Outdoor seating is a must during the summer, since al fresco dining, you get to dine under the shelter of patio umbrellas, while you’re treated to the sights and sounds of the neighborhood around you, including the basketball courts across the street. You can hear the PA announce the play-by-play during kids league play. Ordered a lamburger and was impressed. It was seasoned well and cooked just right. It also came with a side of salad and fries. The drink/cocktail, French 75 was equally refreshing. Indoors belies a far more intimate date night space for ambiance that anyone can adore. Will return to try the rest of the menu. 4.4÷5.0

Ordered the French 75 which was strong yet refreshing as a summer cocktail. The lamburger was delicious, so were the salad and fries that came with it so needless to say, I pretty much cleaned off my plate. Very happy with my meal overall. They were so accommodating to our request to share: not only sliced the burger in half, but basically split up the plate evenly(salad and fries included) to dole out two equal portions on two separate plates. Talk about being considerate! And cute server with a great smile to top it all off and friendly and attentive waitstaff overall. We sat at one of the outdoor tables which offered a nice view of the park across the street(there was a youth basketball league game going on, live commentary included — so cute) and great for people watching. Plenty of outdoor seats that basically stretched around the perimeter of the restaurant. The outdoor seating is also well-maintained with spotless wooden tables and chairs(sturdy too — another plus). Prices were acceptable as far as French food goes. Extensive drinks menu, too. I’m not in this neighborhood often but this is definitely a spot I’d stop by if I’m ever in the area again.

Absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn. This is a wonderful date night spot for couples, the atmosphere is cosy, understated and romantic! My favorite dishes are the mussels and the chicken confit. Personally we loved the surprise burlesque dancer on Valentine’s Day, so very French!

I dont get what the mediocre reviews are about. I had dinner here with my husband and cousin and had one of the most delicious meals I have had in a long while. The staff here know their regulars and we were delighted to come to dinner on a random Wednesday evening. It was quiet and peaceful– the best way to have dinner in my opinion. We started with some appetizers. The foie gras was rich and creamy — my husbands first time having it and we also shared a salad. For our entrée, we both had the cassoulet with duck confit. It was heavenly. I tasted my cousins hanger steak and it was cooked to perfection– buttery and well-seasoned. We all had our own desserts because… DESSERT! I had the crème brûlée which never disappoints. We sipped on porch swings and a delicious port wine with dessert. A fantastic place for dinner in my favorite borough.

Had dinner here on Valentine’s Day(14 Feb 2015) There were balloons everywhere! Helium-filled red, white, and pink balloons nearly covered the ceiling in a whimsical /tasteful way. It actually seemed to work well with the French-inspired theme of the restaurant and hanging stringed lights. The restaurant was lit just enough. Not too dim, and not too bright. The host was friendly with a great smile. My date and I arrived a little early for our 6:30 p.m. reservations(via OpenTable) with intentions to sit at the bar and enjoy a few cocktails beforehand. The one TV over the left side of the bar was showing a classic movie with the sound muted. The music was very mood-appropriate(e.g. 70’s soul). The bartender was attentive, humorous, and knowledgeable. We even had a bet going to see how many proposals he’d see tonight, ha ha. We were seated at the corner table by the window in the front of the restaurant. Through the window we could see folks walking the sidewalks while trying to stay warm in the snowfall. The temperature inside was comfortable. Although we were both wearing a sweater, we never thought once about putting our jackets on even though outside temperatures were descending into the low teens. The prix fixe menu for the night began with oyster shooters, and ended with a decadent dessert sampler. The choices for appetizers and entrees were pleasantly varied. Everything we ordered was brought to us very timely and tasted very fresh. Dinner and service was excellent. This was our first time to the restaurant and we were both completely satisfied. We will certainly be back!

We’ve been going to Chez Oskar at least once per year since 2003. Hubby actually proposed there. I love the mussels but they are not usually offered for Valentine’s Day(when we visit) but instead have a special menu. This year was very different. They had a $ 65 per person special Valentine’s Day menu; however, not only were the mussels not available for Valentine’s Day but they also had a stripper. Yes, a stripper at dinner. Initially I thought it was a burlesque performer but as the show went on she took off her dress to reveal garters and then she removed her bra to reveal pasties. This was at 9:45 pm on 2÷14÷2015. Needless to say, I was shocked. Granted, the meal was great but we won’t ever go back after such an inappropriate display. The waitress said this was a new entertainment segment since fall 2014 and the first Valentine’s Day. I can’t imagine who thought it was appropriate to have a half naked woman, unshaven, around diners and food and for Valentine’s Day no less. Edited to add — I ended up getting food poisoning from my meal at Chez Oskar and threw up at 1:45 am as well as had diarrhea. I have not thrown up since 2004 after a meal on World Yacht dinner cruise where I also got food poisoning. The only thing that reacts that fast is seafood and dairy so I’m guessing it was the lobster consume, the oyster shooter or maybe the dessert(white chocolate and banana mousse). I’m guessing it was not the vodka and soda or mojito since I have those all the time. Not what one would expect for $ 215.

This restaurant has very high potential, but unfortunately the quality of the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant is completely undermined by the clueless waitstaff. I came here on a double-date, and we sat at a table far away from the TV(It turned out to be impossible to find a restaurant that would not be showing the Superbowl). There were two separate waiters in the restaurant, and I feel like neither of them knew that the other one was waiting on us at first, because as soon as one came around and took our drink order, the other one came by two minutes later to take our drink order. Unfortunately the too-much attention of the waitstaff quickly devolved into nearly no attention from the waitstaff. We ordered the fondue as an appetizer to share around the table, and when it came out, it came with only three fondue forks(there were four of us) and no plates whatsoever. I tried to get someone’s attention, but after looking over at the waiters(who at this point had sat down to eat their own pot of fondue) for several minutes, I literally had to get up, walk over to them, and let them know that we had only three forks and no plates. While the fondue itself turned out to be very good, as did each of our main courses, we spent the rest of the evening trying to talk over the very loud television showing the game, and at the end of the night, the manager sent out a piece of chocolate cake for us(We hadn’t complained or anything, but I think he had a sense we were a bit disappointed in the experience – who wouldn’t be). This restaurant could be a great little cozy French restaurant if they would just focus on what they want to be. People don’t go to cozy French restaurants to watch the Superbowl(As evidenced by the only 6 people sitting at the bar watching the game), there are plenty of pubs and bars on this street that were overflowing with people watching the game. People come to cozy French restaurants expecting good service and a quiet, intimate atmosphere. The fact that it was so incongruous may have been why there were no other diners in the restaurant. There are many better places to go in Brooklyn if you are looking for a nice dinner spot. I would stay away from here.

Came for the all you can eat mussels on a Tuesday night but also enjoyed the French onion soup and pâté. We all preferred the white wine and garlic sauce but the crème fraîche sauce was delish also. Each person gets a bowl of fries that will last you through atleast 4 bowls of mussels. Atleast it did for us? The complimentary bread is also good for dipping. Dress warm if you come in the winter bc the heat is on low.
