I’ve eaten here a lot, and the food quality is always amazing! I’m not a fan of «real» mexican food but everything is modern and the speciality crack sauce is to die for!!! I am only leaving 4 stars instead of 5 though as when I’ve ordered takeout they messed up 3 or 4 times already, whether it was not honoring the«special instructions»(I have a food allergy so ask for no pico de gallo) or taking over an hour an a half to deliver when I only live 2 blocks away. But when I have called about my wrong order the gentleman was professional and sent me new food no problem the times it has happened. Other than that, highly recommend!

I loveeee the wet burritos from here! Plus the servers and bartenders are all great. This place is the jam, day or night, I’m all about it!

It was very good. Sat at the bar for lunch, other than some of the servers touching their noses and hair before serving me — not the bartender — and otherwise looking less than appealing — it was great. There are a lot of things to grouse about gentrification but good Calexico food isn’t one of them. But seriously, pay your servers enough to buy decent clothes and a place to shower.

I really love to see an engaged and professional response from an owner and I saw that from Dave, I gave Calexico another shot and the Guac was awesome and the food was delicious. Disregard the last review of mine!

The food’s incredible, and the service is perfect. I come here as often as possible. Only request: bring back the Chipotle Bufalo hot sauce!

Delicious food for the price and the staff is very friendly. There isn’t anything on the menu that I don’t like. Great margaritas too. Tip: THEYHAVEBRUNCH!

I always have a good experience coming to this spot. I love the food and the quality is very consistent. I like coming here because its quick and I get a healthy meal out of it. The bartenders and staff are friendly and attentive. My water glass is never empty. Great spot. Great food. Reasonable price.

I love their food — we’ve been going there for years. The service is also great(which is difficult to find in hipster Greenpoint these days, you know, everybody’s too cool for school) but the staff is always super nice. Excellent place for our Friday night get together with friends(and yes, it is worth the wait.)

The beef tacos were pretty incredible. I ate them so fast that I barely remember them, so this is pretty hard to review. The service was great. I came with a group of 6 friends late on a Saturday night and the server was really helpful in getting us a table quickly. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food, especially the people that got burritos. It wasn’t too loud which made it perfect for us.

Ehhh they had a spark when they started, I don’t know what happen. I ordered my usual fish tacos and supplement the mango with pico. I ordered tortilla that wasn’t heated up loaded with cabbage and 1 lil skimpy piece of fish. Really for $ 9.80? Cmon guys gotta do better than that.

Ugh worst burrito ever The wet sauce was like marinara Rice was the main ingredient. SO much rice. Asked for light rice and it was still way too much. And they got my order wrong(added cheese when I asked for no cheese) but at least were nice and accommodating over the phone.(delivery) Will not order or go there again. Only tried because florentinas was closed

Every time I’ve been to Calexico(about once a month in the past six months). The quality food was overshadowed by rude, lazy, and incredibly annoying service. The bad service has shown itself in extreme slowness(45 min wait for a couple of salads), zero flexibility in replacing meat with cheese or avocado(for vegetarians), constantly having to request more water, and tons of eye-rolling and poor attitude while ordering. I really only come back here because a friend lives near by. However, today(Sunday evening) was the worst. The place was packed as usual when my friends and I(a group of 3) put our names down and waited outside. Meanwhile several other groups where going in and we could see that they were being seated before us. So we waited inside as well. After 25 minutes(we were told to wait 20) we mentioned to the hostess politely that we were here before some of the other groups. She just replied that«they all sat in the bar, where it’s first-come-first-serve». This could have been useful information for us half an hour ago! As a hostess she should have offered this possibility, but instead she just spat it out as if we were supposed to have been born with complete knowledge of the seating philosophy in Calexico. Also during the entire time we were waiting, there was a free table right beside us. But the hostess wouldn’t let us sit there because it was a table for 4 and we were just 3. This table remained free for the entire half hour we were there, and hostess just stood there, between us and the empty table, and said without apologizing that it looks like we are going to have to wait another 20 minutes«because there are no free tables.» When we tried to tell her that this is ridiculous, since we are a party of 3 and have been waiting so long for a table while there’s one available right here the whole time, she just said«I can ask my manager». Well hostess, you should have thought about doing that a while ago if you were any good at this job, or if you had any kind of ability to run this scenario in your head: «Hmmm! What can I do to fill an empty table for 4 with 3 hungry loyal diners? I know! Ask my manager if they can sit there! Because 3 happy diners is better than zero diners and 3 upset people!» We politely said to the hostess that she shouldn’t bother to ask her manager, because we are leaving. And that’s just what we did! I really can’t stand people who use narrow-minded obedience to hide their laziness. I’ll miss the good Tostada Salad, the Vegetable Enchilada, and the Guacamole, which are good. However, I’d much rather walk a few blocks to Zona Rosa to enjoy great food and really, genuinely nice, welcoming, friendly, and kind service.

I experienced the worst racism here and this is your response? «We truly hope you’ll give us another shot in the future — we know we can do so much better than this, and we’d love it if you gave us a chance.» You mean, go back, give you more of my time and money so you can treat me worst than garbage? Pffft, who do you think you are talking to?

Good food, cool décor. Service is not good. Our waitress was incredibly rude. We tried to order happy hour drinks with her, she finally came over after waiting for quite a bit and told us happy hour was over(it was 7:01), this sort of rudeness continued throughout the night.

How do i start this off, hmmm let me think … WORSTSERVICE I HAVEEVERRRRRRRRRHADINMYLIFE!!! A friend and I came here for some drinks and some food. After ordering 2 mojitos the bartender asks for our id’s, sure no problem. He ends up staring at mine for about 2 minutes(does he not know how to do math?) and then takes my friends and doesnt believe her age & insists he’s «easily bribed». WTF? My friend had to take out her credit card and prove that its her. Next we order food, my friend was a little indecisive which clearly pissed him off and he let us know it. After changing her mind and wanting to get a taco instead he turns his head to the side, ROLLSHISEYESANDHUFFSANDPUFFS. Is it really that big of a deal? Are you really that agitated? We didn’t change the order 20 minutes into the night, we did it as he was writing the order down. CHILLOUT. He walks away to the POS system and starts talking to another female bartender, she looks directly at my friend and i, and they both start laughing. SORUDEANDUNPROFESSIONAL. Did they really think we were that stupid? Is this how they want their costumers to feel? After the food comes we end up getting another drink. Ofcourse he forgot to make mine. Had to ask for it a second time. We ask for the check from the female bartender and we give her our cards. She comes back with my card and says there was a problem with it, i check my balance and its well over the amount of the bill. I ask her to swipe it again and she slams down the receipts and VERYRUDELY with a HUGEATTITUDE says something along the lines of «I did it 4 times and it didn’t work, why would it work now, blah blah«and goes back to the machine. Little do you know … ITWORKED. So unprofessional, I could have been traveling and from out of state. And a lot of the time, it happens, the machine makes mistakes. How do i know this? Because it work in the service industry !!! For the first time in my life I left zero tip. I wouldn’t call myself a regular but I’ve been here a number of times, will i come back again? NOPE.

The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars(and the only reason we don’t go more often) is because they severely overcharge for margaritas and side condiments. We know the prices in Greenpoint(we live two blocks away) and we’re fine with shelling out some extra cash for quality food, but $ 9 for a rock glass of margarita and $ 1 for a side of sour cream that should come with the meal… well, that’s just a new level of price-gouging. Even though their margaritas are«real», not the gross mix kind, they should be a full pint size for that price. The bartenders and take out counter staff are stellar. All of them. Real quality, friendly professionals. There used to be a very eager hostess who would attack you at the door with an ear to ear smile, but I think that’s because there was a hovering manager who was constantly scoping the staff for perfection. He tried not to show customers, but I could see he was overbearing. Fortunately, I haven’t seen him or the hostess the last few times. The food always falls in the good range, but fluctuates from pretty good to very good. They make a tofu asado burrito for me, even though it’s not on the menu, and I appreciate that a great deal. My husband and our friends have enjoyed every meal ordered, but all our local friends feel the same about the prices. They only eat here when the mood strikes to blow some money. I will say, Calexico food has a unique taste that puts it in a separate category from most Mexican food. That’s probably what makes them so popular(so loud and crowded on weekends that we do take out if it’s fri-sun). So, there are times when I’m «craving Calexico»; not craving Mexican food… craving Calexico.

I come here once a month– I don’t normally seat at the seating area more by the bar or the window spot. Mostly any time I come in it’s packed and I can always find a spot with my friends at the bar. The bartenders are pretty cool and they make the drinks perfectly. If i could rate the bar area alone I would give it 5 stars. One of my friends recently wanted to go and she wanted a table– there was a bit of a wait but nothing out of the norm. The waitress was beyond rude! Took forever to get our water– So I decided to ease her work load and head to the bar to order our drinks and pay from them at the bar so we wouldn’t have to spend another 30 mins on that. The food took a long time to come out and it was cold. We didn’t want to cause a problem since we knew nothing would change. The waitress looked like she doesn’t like her job– and this I can tell from previous experience I have seen her scream at a couple of people. I don’t understand why the manager still keeps her around. The cherry on top was when she charged us for the drinks that I paid for at the bar!!! I told her that I went myself to get them and she called me a liar and that I was responsible for paying for my entire order— Beyond rude. I paid for the meal and the drinks i had at the and also left the receipt from the drinks i got at the bar. HORRIBLE! She should be signed up to a Customer Service class or just switch her job. Said that Calexico has to get a bad review based on the service of one waitress.

The food here has always been delicious and tasty but there has always been a long wait to get it. Don’t go here if you are super hungry and want to eat right away, or order some simple appetizers. Vibe is part bar part restaurant. It gets more crowded and loud towards the later part of the night. If there is a wait, then ask if you can sit at the little table section by the bar. You’ll have to order your food from the bar, but it’s not a bad seating area and you won’t have to wait for a table!

I frequent Calexico mostly because it’s close to home, and an easy meal. Would I venture out of my way to eat there? Not necessarily. But because it’s an option, I do enjoy Calexico pretty often! I usually order online and pickup on the way home. But I’ve ordered delivery many a time, and also dined in once. I’m always pretty satisfied. My go-tos are the burritos(baja fish is my favorite, but I also like the pollo and asada and even just the bean), rolled quesadillas(steak, pollo), and the elote. When I’m feeling extra, I like to order the burrito wet also – mm. The portions are reasonable for the price – $ 10 a burrito, which usually lasts me 2 meals. Other items on the menu are ehhh. And if I didn’t already figure out my usual orders, my rating might’ve lost a star. But it’s a regular on my lunch and quick dinner grab rotation, so I can’t complain!

I’ve been to Calexico before, but this time was the tops. We were a 2 top, getting there around 7:30pm on a Tuesday night. Beautiful outside, and you know with a little bit of clouds, it was going to be a cotton candy sunset. We had to wait a bit for an outside seat, but we had a drink at the bar and just enjoyed the ambiance. Our waiter was lovely, his name was Jay. I think he may have had too many tables, so he didn’t really check in that often, but nothing but pleasant. I ordered the Tostada Salad with chicken. I basically stopped talking for 15 minutes while I consumed it, delicious down to the last piece of lettuce. My girlfriend got Carne Asada burrito bowl and had 2 thumbs up after dinner. If you can get the outside seating it is definitely worth it. Nice layout. I haven’t been there on a weekend often, so I assume that it is a total shit show, with food that good how could it not be? I will definitely be returning. A nice place to pop by if you’re on your way to Greenpoint — maybe in advance of a Peter Pan donut to top of the day!

AHHH, cannot wait to come back here! Brought my friend here for her birthday on a Friday afternoon/late lunch. Easy to find a big table so we could spread out and order a ton of food. It’s a small space, so if it was during peak hours, I’m sure it would be crowded and a bit of a wait. To the left there is a bar with some seats(probably can’t fit more than 7 – 10 people?), and because people are boozing it up, it can get loud and shrieky on top of the music they are playing, so don’t expect to have quiet, intimate conversations here. Bathrooms — there are two, and they are big but dark. Not a place for a girl to put on makeup. Large mirror near the toilet, but again, not light enough to see anything. Seemed clean enough— as in not messy, because too dark to tell if it was filthy with stains or random shit spots anywhere. Waitress was super friendly and sweet — chatted with my friend about the best margerita option. To me the drink was strong, but good overall. Now onto the food: Appetizers: Carne Fries — not a lot of brisket in there, mostly beans and cheese sauce. The cheese sauce on top of the white sauce was too much, and it was hard to taste anything else, even the fries, beans. And it would have been nice to have more of the actual protein. Salsa is spicy! But good for 5 bucks. It’s small, think of a Pyrex 1 cup glass container, IF even that much. Guacamole was my favorite! The only problem is how expensive it was. I make guacamole at home all the time, and the serving looked to be two small mashed avocados and a little tomato and onion. Normally that’s fine, but for $ 10? However, it was filling, so all was well I SOOOO wanted to try more tacos but we were getting severely stuffed, however we forced ourselves for one taco each and it was delicious! Pollo Asada: Simple, but very tasty grilling/marinade, with avocado sauce and pico de gallo. Can’t wait to come back and try all their tacos! Fluffy, warm, fresh tortillas really help too.

The grilled corn here is something to behold. Everytime I take a bite I have serious regrets because I know that eventually… it’ll run out and my joy will be over. And then there’s the tacos. I came here and tried the beer battered baja fish tacos and let me just say, the emotions I had for the grilled corn were coming back to me. The fish was crispy and well-complemented by the pineapple salsa and just made my mouth water. Highly recommend this place if you’re a taco enthusiast!

This place is pretty fantastic. My first burrito place in NYC — I don’t think the«crack» sauce is anything spectacular, but I do think it’s tasty as hell! I got the bean burrito, it was pretty huge and was shareable if you’re not super hungry. The corn on the cob small plate was DELICIOUS — the stuff they put on top is creamy and cheesey, with spices topped on. A great place to grab a bite and walk over to the park. ALSO, their beer with hot sauce is crazy awesome. I actually enjoyed drinking beer out of a straw!

I always came here during the summer months because it is close to mi casa and its easy for my friends to get to. They have great drinks. I have sat at the bar for hours and not even noticed. Cool vibes. The food is actually pretty solid. The lunch box is truly the best, you get 2 tacos and chips and guac, rice and beans or salad for 10 bucks. The workers attitude however, that changes depending on person, shift and day. Today was the first day I encountered a dry bartender. He definitely should have taken some shots. One monkey don’t stop my show. My drinks and food were still great. They get one star off because they should know people order more and tip better when the staff actually want to be there.
