This place is great and the woman who owns it is adorable. You can get tons of authentic and unique stuff to wear or decorate you place with. Plus, there’s things for every price range– five dollars and up.

After hearing such great Unilocal reviews I came here a few weeks ago. The shop is very cute and they have a nice selection of jewelry. I recieved a warm greeting upon entering. While browsing through the clothing selection I did observe that there were not too many large sized clothing pieces.

Calabar Imports is a very cute shop! I was introduced to Calabar Imports by my son’s Father they used to be located on Washington Ave but it got destroyed by a fire, any way my sons Father brought me two beautiful Moroccan bracelets from the shop and ever since then I fell in love with this shop. The owner gets a lot of goods from Morocco, Tibet, West Africa, Mexico and India. the shop is not over price alot of people see a little boutique and automatically suspects it’s over price. Calabar imports Has a little bit of everything to fit everyone’s budget. I also support Calabar Imports because it’s a local business that is owned by a woman of color. I support black business to keep the cipher channeling. Ya dig! One love!

This is a review for the new Calabar Imports in Boerum Hill on 3rd Ave(they don’t have a Unilocal listing yet). What a cute shop, and a great addition to the neighborhood! Gorgeous African jewelry, clothing, bags and accessories. I found a unique necklace made of gorgeous African printed fabric and loved their greeting cards. The woman who was managing the shop was very friendly and helpful! All of my most favorite jewelry is stuff I’ve bought in Africa. So glad I don’t have to wait till my next trip to pick up show-stopping accessories!

Walking into this shop on January 5 was not part of my new year resolutions, but I definitely think that«becoming more familiar with all of the shops on my street» will become one. What a lovely little place! I went in looking for gloves, or really whatever, and the proprietor greeted me warmly, talked jovially with two other customers as they contemplated the brunch fad, and welcomed an older man in from the cold and offered him a chair from the back. I didn’t find the kind of gloves I was looking for, but I did see lots of awesome jewelry, sweaters(of which I bought two), beautiful notebooks, bags, baskets, boxes, sculptures, figurines, many in bright colors which were a pleasant contrast to the gruesome cold outside. I’m glad I walked in, because I definitely walked back out feeling happier and more cheerful.

Calabar Imports suffered greatly from the fire that consumed 816 Washington Avenue on June 4th, 2011. I imagine the store will be closed for some time. Go to , email or call 718−638−4288 to inquire about purchases. Please continue to support this great store as they recover from this devastating blow. I’ve been shopping here for years, and very much hope to see the place return once the ashes of the corner fire have been cleared. My thoughts are with you!

Calabar Imports is filled to the brim with bright, colorful clothes, jewelry, curiosities, baubles, knickknacks, thingamajigs, trifles, and bric-à-brac. If I was forced to guess, I would say there are more thingamajigs than baubles, with curiosities coming in third place. It’s a good spot to purchase a small, unique gift for your lady friend… perhaps some earrings, or soaps that she will undoubtedly appreciate, as it’s unlikely she’s seen this stuff anywhere else. I bought my better half one of the softest shirts ever created, and she did not immediately break up with me upon receiving it. This is always a good sign. If you are an awful gift-giver, the helpful proprietor women will gladly help you pick something out, and perhaps improve your present-buying confidence to the point that you even offer advice to others on the subject(see previous paragraph).

Thanks to Brooklyn Public Television, I hunted this place down in search of birthday gifts for my mom and sister. And this was the perfect spot for it. Soooooo much stuff in here! Home goods, jewelry, clothing, scarves, wallets, knick knacks… and probably a zillion other things I didn’t even glance at. Everything is ethnic-inspired and imported from around the globe. It’s run by a mother/daughter team who are super nice and helpful. They even gave me gift boxes and gift bags when I told them I was buying gifts. You can pretty much find anything in here, and the prices are super reasonable. Lots of sales and deals, as well. Great place for a gift or a fun piece of jewelry, though the awesome $ 10 ring I bought yesterday has turned my finger green today. Guess I should’ve checked into that beforehand, and I now feel kinda bummed I paid $ 10 for a fake silver ring. But I’m gonna wear it anyway.

I wandered in, searching for a Birthday present for a good friend and co-worker; I also figured after living nearby for over a year, I’m long overdue for checking this place out. I liked it a lot! Incense, soaps, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, journals, leather and metal goods, dresses and more. A great place for reasonably priced, one of a kind gifts, imported from Asia, Africa and South America.

This place has the most beautiful«ethnic» inspired art, jewelry and fashion. I happened along this place after coming from Tom’s Restaurant and walking to the car. I tried on 3 of the dresses they had hanging outside, bought one – and the most adorable recycled material straw bags – best of all I got both for well under $ 100. Great place to buy someone a gift, pick up some jewelry and an outfit.
