I would like to share our bad experiences in the Children Section on 2nd floor of the Mapleton Library yesterday. I took my kids to Mapleton library around 3:30 pm. After about 2 minutes we arrived, I heard a Chinese lady librarian yelled at a few kids who were using the computers. I really had no idea why they got yelled as I didn’t think the kids made any unacceptable noise. About half an hour later, a boy who was about 6 feet away from me got yelled by the same Chinese lady librarian. She blamed the kid on running and demanded him to take her to his parent. Then, I heard another round of yelling from this librarian to the boy’s parent. There was a lady sat next to me and we both felt shocked as the boy wasn’t really running and we both didn’t see he did anything unacceptable. About an hour later, we were about to leave. My little boy wanted to borrow one book which I thought was not age appropriate to him. I asked my little boy to find another book, my boy stomped one foot on the carpet floor and walked away to find another book. That Chinese lady librarian walked to my 7 years old boy, yelled at him for stomping his foot. My boy was so scared and looked for me. That Chinese lady librarian came over me and blamed me that I didn’t say anything when my boy stomped on the carpet floor and kept saying I don’t have good parenting skills! First, my son stomped his foot only once and his action didn’t even make any noise or interrupted other people at the library at all. This Chinese lady librarian had no right to yell out loud and taught me and other parents how to parenting. Base on my observation, she was the only one who made all those real noise at the library and her behavior was worse than those kids who got yelled by her. I was so regretted that I didn’t think of recording so that the management would know what’s exactly happened. I take my kids to 2 to 3 different libraries each week. I have never encountered any bad experiences with the librarian until yesterday. Usually, when the kids are not behaving properly, the librarian would approach the kids and give a warning, but not yell. If the situation not getting improved, the librarian would approach and talk to the parents, but not yell. Base on this Chinese lady librarian’s standard, I think no kids should be allowed in the Mapleton Library. With this librarian there, the Mapleton Library is not kid-friendly even though they have a whole 2nd floor for children. The other librarians at adult section are more nice and friendly.
