Um… customer service, anyone? The food is decent if you’re in a bind and can’t get to Curry Hill. But I’ve experienced better treatment at the DMV. It’s not necessarily rudeness, it’s more like an overall disinterest.

This is definitely not good Indian food… not even good cheap Indian food. The sauces were thin and not flavorful. I would not go back. I will say two things in its defense, however: 1) The bhaji was served fresh out of the oven and was EXCELLENT. Warm, flaky, and served with some nicely prepared chickpeas. 2) The lassis were also better than average. I had the banana and my sister the mango. Both were good. So, if you want to stop in for an appetizer and a lassi, this could be your spot. But if you want decent curries, better try some place else.

Delivery took forever. Items arrived cold. I could deal with cold if the food was well prepared to begin with… but the congealed korma was flavorless and the mulligatawny soup was bland with a horrific, artificially sweet taste I cannot place, yet it still haunts my dreams. Shudder. Get Taj instead.

This review is for«new green leaf» restaurant which was formerly bombay garden. I think its just the same place with a new name tho. The pros: I was able to pick up the food in 15min, I could use seamless. Cons: the soup I got was really gross, thin and burned tasting. The eggplant/potato entrée I got was completely missing any flavor — I’m glad I was at home so I could add a ton of salt and sriracha which made it at least edible. The soup I couldn’t have more than a taste of. Also I didn’t feel like the portion was all that generous. I was especially sad because this place claims to be south indian which is pretty rare for brooklyn and I got excited. Won’t be trying this place again and its a real shame that they don’t respect their clientele enough to make a decent product.

I understand the reason for the mixed reviews of this place. People who really know their indian food know this is certainly not the best around. but who wants to trek to Jackson Heights all the time for indian? Its worth the journey once in a while, but sometimes i just want some creamy curry and pakoras. This place is perfectly serviceable as a delivery/takeout option. They are on seamless, which also gets them points in my book. The décor is horrendous. Not a date night spot for sure but a convenient stop along the way somewhere. But again I usually get delivery. However they do play the Bollywood station on their flatscreen at the counter, which I find amusing. Yes the owner and the staff are weird– clearly their strength is not in customer service. But they’re pretty nice anyway, never had any problems with them certainly. the food– not special. but good! My favorite dish on the menu, aside from the curries, is the Paneer Makhni. Paneer is this cubed cheese, its soft but it holds its shape and it comes in a thick tomato base sauce that has some flavor to it. The tikka masala is in fact bland. they do their appetizers and their breads really nicely though. Love the pakoras, love the samosas(orders over $ 20 get free veg samosas on seamless!) overall, im a fan.

I believe they changed cooks because the food made me sick a couple of times. I warned them I would not return if I got sick again so I have not been back since. I see where someone wrote they are closed by the Board of Health… I wish it weren’t so because I miss their food and was hoping their previous cook would return like they told me, but I am not surprised.

Came here with my s/o on a not-so-busy Saturday evening, with only us and 2 other customers. The waiter was kind of unattentive and in a rush, so I already began having a bad vibe about the place. I ordered Nan, Vindaloo Curry(their spiciest meal), and some kind of soup for her. All of which we’re pretty good, taste very homestyle Indian. I recommend this place to anyone who is into a more homely style Indian.

I have been dining here since it opened a couple of years back, partially out a duty to keep the neighborhood’s only Indian restaurant encouraged and in business. And indeed it has been nothing but a slow, painful descent. I might openly dispute other reviewers citing the rude staff. When dining on site the staff, including the weirdo kitchen gnomes, have been attentive, friendly and courteous. The big drawback: the food and décor. The food is indeed bland and not at all fresh. Expect soggy slop and chewy meat. I’ve noticed Bombay Garden has jacked up their prices and offered a pricey upgrade to dubiously«organic» ingredients — a typical swan song for a failing business. And the décor — Christmas decorations in June, bad lighting and not a bit of renovation since the old Greek diner moved out. Which is a shame, since Bombay Garden has let one of the best garden dining spaces fall into utter disrepair. I can no longer stomach to eat there despite my one-man campaign. It needs a major kick in the ass or just to die quickly. Greenpoint needs and can fully support a quality Indian restaurant. Bombay Garden is just not it.

I was really excited when we got a new Indian place in the neighborhood. The food is just okay, considering its the only indian around thats not saying much. The service and the rude way they treat their customers makes me think that someone is forcing them to be in business, because its obvious they hate their lives and take it out on those around them. Fist: they seem to be too cheap to hire any waitstaff whatsoever, so if you choose to eat there and there is more than one other table occupied, be prepared for the worst, slowest service in your life. Second: Numerous times I call ahead and pick up my food, if they say 20 minutes I give them 35, and still my food is not ready. There is one woman trying to answer the phone and waitress at the same time and she obviously cant handle it. Lastly I just called for delivery for my LAST time from this place. Before I could finish my order, they guy rudely hung up on me, without reading back the order. I called back because I wanted to use my credit card, he told me the delivery guy left already(which seemed like a lie because it was less then 10 minutes later) and hung up on me AGAIN. Finally the food was delivered the order was wrong, I called back a third time. The guy said«so sorry, ma’am» and HUNGUPONMEAGAIN! I really dont need to eat here ever again, the food is not worth it. I’ve never had such consistently horrible service anywhere, I’d be surprised if they stayed in business the way they operate.

The food here is actually pretty good. I give ‘em one star because EVERY time I order food from here, no matter if I am eating in, taking out or asking for delivery I am treated extremely poorly. The people who work here are abrupt on the phone, always hanging up after they take an order without giving you a chance to ask«how long,» or «how much,» they FREQUENTLY get orders wrong and then it’s a freakin’ argument about it, sometimes they take well over an hour to deliver food that should never take that long, and when that happens, it’s always cold as if it had been sitting around waiting for someone to get off their ass and take it to the customer… I love Indian cuisine… and wish that this place gave a shit about their customers, tried to pretend that they give a shit… but basically, even though the food’s pretty good… the feeling they engender is one of total disdain for their customers. Wish it was different, but it’s just not. No wonder why EVERYTIME I WALKBYTHATPLACENOBODYISEATINGINTHERE. When they opened and the first time I ate the food, I was so psyched that it was open in the neighborhood… They have truly been a disappointment.

Its what you would expect from the first no frills indian place in Greenpoint. The food is fresh, with mild flavoring with decent portions. The delivery service is quick and easy. Its not great indian food, but decent enough where I would order again.

The food here is solid. Not the best I’ve ever had, but it is respectably done Indian food in GREENPOINT! Anything decent that is not Polish deserves our support. I have been waiting years to have more options than Polish food in this area. The people who run this place are attentive and hard-working. I don’t know why the place is always empty, perhaps if they lowered the lights and spruced up the décor a bit? It still looks like the diner that used to be there. I wish people would just go for the good food and not be so concerned about the décor. Again, if you want AMAZING Indian food, go to BRICKLANE in the East Village. If you want solid Indian food in your neighborhood, Bombay Garden is an excellent option.

I asked for my chicken tikka masala to be made medium spicy. It was as mild as Indian food could ever be. It was tasty for chicken in a creamy tomato sauce, but it wasn’t chicken tikka masala, not as it should be, at least. Also, I walk by here every single day and I never see anyone inside. I honestly think that business is so slow that they’ve given up on seasoning their food… or something. While service was polite, I need at least SOME spice in my Indian food or why bother. Sorry, but this just isn’t gonna cut it, even for a desperate craving.

First of all, the food isn’t bad and there is no other close Indian food in the neighborhood, so I will reluctantly go back from time to time. Now here’s why I hate this place with a passion: My wife and I ordered 3 things by phone and I went to pick it up. I quickly looked inside the bag when I got it, saw three containers and went home. Upon opening it, what was supposed to be a pureed Mulligatawny soup, was instead vegetables covered in sauce. So visually it obviously wasn’t what we ordered. I called the woman back who was taking the orders and said there was a mistake and instead of apologizing or anything she said«You got soup! Different places make it different ways!» She got upset when I pointed out it was full of vegetables, said she was busy and hung up on me. I called her right back and after letting the phone ring about 20 times she picked up again immediately on the defensive, immediately saying we were wrong and hanging up on me again! My wife couldn’t believe it and called from her phone next, in case they had caller ID. They answered right away and as she started explaining who she was, the woman again repeated the same things and hung up on her. I called back a FOURTH time, said«listen, I’m bringing it back, make me a new soup and you’ll see what I’ve been talking about» When I got there, she said, «Oh, that’s „X“, it isn’t soup.» NOSHIT lady. Still no apology, still no soup because it wasn’t made, they didn’t have any even when I originally ordered I’m sure, so I had to wait another 15 minutes for them to make a big batch from scratch. Also, on a smaller annoying note, Every time I’ve picked things up from there, they haven’t had coin change to give me back, so whatever whole dollar they have to round up to is what you’re paying.

My boyfriend and I finally decided to venture here for dinner on Friday night. We had put it off for some time to see how it took to the neighborhood and of course we heard from a few people that it was okay. Considering there is no other India restaurant in Greenpoint, we were excited and nervous at the same time. My main hesitation is that the place is always empty. Perhaps they do a lot of take out? We were warmly greeted and asked to sit where we liked. There was only one other couple in the joint — so we basically had the place to ourselves. Our waitress was extremely attentive and was on standby for any question or request we had — she was almost a little too attentive, but I’m not going to penalize her for that. Seemed like her boss(perhaps the owner) was watching as well and she was doing her best. We ordered the chana sag(chickpea w/spinach) and the chicken curry(had to at least try the classic before venturing to more unusual grounds at a new place). We also ordered one naan to share. The food came out rather quickly and in huge portions. We had SO much left over, which is always a good thing. The chana saag wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but certainly satisfying. The spinach was shredded — not total goop, which is good. The chickpeas cooked perfectly. My only complaint is there were one too many pods of this spice(not sure what it is, but common in Indian food). The chicken curry was good — lots of sauce and a mix of white and dark meat. Wasn’t that spicy, so its a great dish for those looking to avoid a fire alarm fire in their mouth. The naan was delicious — fluffy and perfect for soaking up yummy sauce. Overall, it was a satisfying meal and a super low price — since each dish was only $ 7.99. And most importantly it was easy on the stomach. I’ll definitely be coming here again and ordering take out. It’s not the best Indian, but I’m glad its in the hood and I don’t have to venture to Jackson Heights to satisfy my Indian cravings.

Moderately above average. There is a lack of Indian restaurants in the neighborhood so I was excited when this place opened. The descriptions on the menu were not accurate and although we ate what we were given, we weren’t given what we ordered. A mushroom and spinach dish that has only cheese and peas, huh? Waiter was nice. Food was a little bland for Indian. Nan was ok. I will go back but this place could use improvement.

New spot with plenty of vegetarian options. I had a full coursed meal for 14 bucks! Very worth it. Very yummy. Cash only… Or very preferred

I went opening night with a group of Indian cuisine-loving friends. Three of us being local to the neighborhood, we were very excited about the latest addition to Greenpoint’s list of eateries. We knew it was their first night and were prepared for bumps: a few things didn’t make it to the table but were summarily erased from the check with minimal fuss. Like Kai B., we had a plethora of waiters, all eager to do their best. Despite the fact that some of the waitstaff were very new to waiting, the service was sincere. We found out later that the opening night was earlier than originally planned. And kudos to them for keeping the outdoor space. The food, overall, was pretty decent, with a good split between vegetarian and meat dishes. It was also very affordable. Most entrees were between $ 8-$ 12. I only wish they had pappadums and coconut soup, though. The mango lassi were not as thick and creamy as I’ve tasted elsewhere but still very refreshing. We think they added carrot to it, as it was neon orange, but this didn’t detract from enjoyment. The group’s consensus on the food was tasty, not the best that everyone had experienced(Jackson Heights/2nd Ave) but certainly worth going back for. And very convenient to have in the neighborhood. I’ll wait a few weeks and try again.

This is a great addition to the neighborhood. My friend and I had one dish each and a total of three bread servings for a mere $ 25. All while sitting outside on a nice back deck surrounded by green backyards. It was opening day, so the service was a little confusing(it felt like we had three waiters), but I’m sure that will get ironed out. I had the beef curry and it was quite delicious. The décor inside is more or less unchanged from the Greek diner that previously occupied this location. It needs some work — I hope that’s still to come. Try to sit outside if at all possible. One final note: It’s BYOB(and the first time I took advantage of such a policy).
