Review for Lux Girl Beauty Lounge. I got a simple gel manicure with their advertised price of $ 20. Super cheap for gels! They have lots of color choices, and the tech knew what she was doing. However, 4 of the nails chipped after two days. Now, a week a half later, the polish is still good except for those 4 that chipped. So, it was an ok manicure for a great price.

I was a huge fan of Black Pearl Nails and always came here to get my nails done. BUT Black Pearl has been sold and is now Lux Girl Beauty Lounge. They did a decent job on my nails. My main concern is that a fill with a design on only two nails COSTDOUBLE what Lee charged for a fill with a design on all ten fingers!!! Needless to say I will not be retuning here again. The new chairs and a quick neck massage were nice but so not worth the extra money in my book. Update: It has been less than two days and one of the nails has already snapped off. Guess it wasn’t that decent! So disappointed in the new ownership!!!

Lee is an awesome nail tech. Sadly, she has moved away from NY. There is supposed to be a new nail salon being opened in place of Black Pearl but so far nothing…

Nice people and a very speedy leg wax. As others have mentioned, it’s not super fancy, but they do good work. I called to check the price($ 20 for half leg), told them I’d be there in 10 minutes. They had the table already, waxed my legs, oiled them down, plucked strays and then I was done. For $ 20 plus tip I was in and out in @15 minutes with from the top of my knee down done.

This is my Nail Spot. I have been to many places in Greenpoint, and this is it! After getting a TERRIBLE set of acrylic stiletto nails at another spot in the neighborhood which shall remain nameless, I turned to Unilocal to see what else was available. The place looks a little shabby from the outside, but it is very clean and comfortable! I couldn’t be more pleased with Black Pearl Nails. Lee and the other lady who works there(I don’t know her name) are very pleasant. I explained what I wanted, and Lee did exactly that. Sure the location is not spa-like, but I don’t care about that at all. I find getting my nails done by someone who doesn’t seem miserable way more relaxing than a spa like situation where the employees seem super bummed to be there. Lee’s little boy is sometimes in the shop and he is ADORABLE. The tv is on and I like to just zone out. Last time I was there, Lee insisted on lending me a pair of flip flops to wear home which was super sweet, even if they were 3 sizes too big, LOL. I hope that more people decide to give this place a chance, and support a female owned, independent business where the owner actually cares about her customers!!!

I found this location via Unilocal and was very happy with my service. I had both a pedicure and a eyebrow waxing during my visit — total $ 23. My basic pedicure did the job — my nails look great and I love the color. I would return to this spot again. As others have said, if you are looking for a full-on spa, this is not the place. However, they do a great job with their services.

Lee is amazing! So sweet, super skilled and excellent service. No frills location = who gives a shit?! It’s about the way my nails look and the professionalism. Hands down, awesome.

My go-to nail spot in BK. While the interior is no frills, the quality of service is top notch. If you’re looking for a spa experience, head elsewhere. But, if you’re looking for pristine nails at an unbeatable price, look no further. Lee, the owner, is not only a very talented nail technician, but just a lovely person. She is kind and courteous and makes sure you are happy with her work before you walk out. Only qualm I have is that the salon does not take appointments: it is walk in only. While the wait is typically under 30 minutes, I’ve had to wait longer on occasion and I would like the option to make an appointment.

I was able to stop by this past Wednesday and I was completely happy with my experience. I was treated with respect and care, I didn’t feel rushed at all. I was helped by the owner Lee, who did an amazing job. She really made me feel like she cared about my experience at her shop. I paid $ 16 for a fill and $ 15 for a pedicure. Definitely plan to revisit in about 2 – 3 weeks :)

Best service in Greenpoint. Why would you want to go anywhere else? No seriously why? Very friendly staff. Lee is great!!! I know it might be a bit of a wait when its busy but its worth it. Everywhere else you go you get these girls talking in a foreign language(probably about you and your toes). My mom and I have been coming here for years. All you people complaining about how run down it looks go somewhere else. Its the service that matters.

I just moved to Greenpoint and was looking for a place to get my nails. The reviews looked ok so i tried Black Pearl Nails. The two women who were working were friendly, the place was a bit run down, but i tried it. I got a manicure and she didn’t do a topcoat. I thought it might be ok so i didn’t say anything. My nails were chipped my that evening. I wouldn’t go there again.

Cash only. Cheap work I didn’t even feel happy with my mani. It was lacking, poor quality. Place is a whole in the wall and not the cleanest. One tip: bring your own polish Even cheap $ 1 polish would be better then what they had, very watery and just seemed like its been there awhile. People seem nice. Not some where I would take my friends for a girls day. This would be the place to go if you either have no choice bc of time etc. or have only a little cash. But like I said cheap, so you get what you pay for right.

Really like this place! I researched on Unilocal and this seemed to be a hidden Gem in the area. Just moved to Greenpoint and was looking for a good salon with a friendly atmosphere– that also wouldn’t drain my bank account. I love getting my nails designed every week with new ideas and Lee had no problem giving me exactly what I wanted. She is extremely sweet, and so is everyone else that works there. Lee is a person that likes to please her clients. While I was getting my nails done, a client walked in with a simple purple mani & pedi but one of her toe nails had chipped. Lee immediately on the spot found the color(she has a really good variety of colors) and fixed it for her. When the women gave her money for the fix, lee said no worries and told her to have a nice day and she’d see her next time. That– I really liked. I would want to be treated the same way, and of course I didn’t mind the 3 – 4 minutes lee spent fixing her toe nail during my time with her. The price is unbeatable. I’ve been to the nicest salons around this area, and in many other cities such as Miami and Toronto. Black Pearl may not look like a ‘chic nail bar’ i.e. there’s no cucumber water and soft music playing in the background, if thats what you’re looking for. But personally, I prefer quality and customer service over a trendy atmosphere for my nail salon. Call before you go in, to make sure you’re not waiting.

Walked in here the other day and got my nails done by Lee, who is incredibly lovable and charming. At first, I decided on a nail color that was $ 3 more(it was color changing/I didn’t realize) and Lee suggested similar colors that didn’t cost extra without me even asking because I had wanted a design too and she didn’t want to charge me too much! She did the best acrylic fill in that I have ever had, and it was $ 15. Lee even stayed 40 minutes past closing and did not rush the job one bit. I waited 20 minutes when I got in. I think there are only 2 employees there at a time and they don’t take appointments. Definitely give yourself extra time, and don’t worry it’s worth waiting. Don’t let the way it looks scare you. Upon second inspection, I realized everything is very clean. I must admit I was a little weary when Lee’s son walked in because I have been places that let their kids run around before but Lucky is sweet and respectful and possibly the most well behaved child ever. He made me a sea shell necklace. My heart melted. I was very depressed to leave my nail woman back home, but finding this gem has made everything ok. I’ve been to enough nail salons to know this one is a keeper.

This place is great. Lee is amazing, so friendly, and actually remembers everyone so you really feel welcomed and happy to be there. Her son Lucky is the cutest, sweetest, friendliest little boy ever. I love it when he’s there. Sure, it doesn’t look like a super pristine fancy salon but if it did then the prices wouldn’t be as amazing as they are. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who isn’t uptight and snobby.

Don’t be put off by the exterior(or the interior for that matter) — it’s not the cutest place, so if you’re hella bougie move on. Personally, I’m not looking for a «spa» experience — I don’t need to pay $ 40 for a fill in just so i can hear the soothing sounds of orca whales boning each other. I want a detail oriented nail technician that gets the job done at a reasonable price — and this exceeded my standards tenfold! I’m a modern girl, I have needs, and one of these needs is infinite nail polish colors. I want to be able to choose between four different shades of mint green, and Black Pearl is ready for me. Sometimes I want my nails to be the exact shade of my own blood, and they literally have a shelf of varying blood colors(O negative anyone?). Anyway, every color. They’re on it. My roommate once told me that, as a perfectionistic virgo, I should always expect to be disappointed — no one can make my nails perfectly symmetrical & flawless in the way I crave — UNTILNOW. I get acrylics, and I swear if you’re as nit-picky as me there’s constantly something that could be improved upon, but at black pearl there was a moment when I wondered if my technician was psychic. Anytime I thought — «mmm could be touched up there» — she did it without me saying a word. Her attention to detail was flawless. She pushed back & trimmed my cuticles(which not everyone does for a fill-in) and spent more time shaping them than anyone has before — and it shows. I also am anti-social & typically hate speaking to my nail technician as a lot of the time it’s awkward & uncomfortable. But not Lee — I told her I just moved to greenpoint from New Orleans and was hoping to find a bartending job — to which she responded by listing off all the places around town that she saw that were hiring. She seems to know every customer that comes in by name, asking for updates on their kids, jobs, etc. like an old friend would. I had three nails replaced, a fill in, and a more particular french manicure and it came out to $ 20. My friend who pays double to get her nails done in manhattan is jealous. I feel so cute!!!

I have no idea why this place gets such great reviews. It’s not the worst place I’ve been to, but I won’t be coming back.
