This business is now closed. I knew it would happen. Great looking shop, knew her profession… didn’t know how to treat customers. Had to happen.

The Avenue L Salon and Spa is HORRENDOUS and a TRUEDISGRACE to the hair salon industry. The owner(E) treats people in the most rude and condescending way possible! Her prices are far above standard with truly sub par customer service. I was so upset when she argued with a customer who kindly asked about other conditioners abruptly yelled and said«If you don’t like what I do… you can go somewhere else» … the owner of this Salon is the biggest hippocrite ever!!! She plays gospel music throughout the salon(which is not a problem because it is peaceful and beautiful music) and has the sign of the cross on her front business door but yet she treats customers as if they are NOTHING!!! I actually witness a customer give the owner(E) a $ 10 tip because the customer felt very intimidated by her abrupt rudeness. I felt so sorry for this woman who had her children with her and the owner talked to this very same woman like she was a barrel of TRASH!!! The kids were so young(5 – 8) that they were not too sure about what was going on but they stayed quiet for awhile staring at the owner(E) and their mother. My personal situation was EVERY time I made an appointment(no matter how early) I would be served LAST!!! I understand that you have to wait your turn but the owner has a handful of(5 – 8) steady customers that she puts before everyone else… even if you made an appointment to go first!!! What is even more pitiful is that the owner(E) watches a mentally handicapped teenage boy for one of her friends or a family member and she talks to this young man like he is a ass… she told him in front of customers(very few customers) to «sit down and shut up»”… the young man ignores her temper tantrum’s …he is well behaved and friendly… the owner is a TERRIBLE human being who hides behind her bible to affirm all of the disgraceful things she does to people in her salon. People… please save your hard earned money… the avenue L Salon and Spa is a TRUERIP-OFF…they are overpriced and treat what few customers they have like DIRT!!! I have NEVER been to such a disgraceful hair salon in all of my life and I am nearly 50 years old. The salon is NEVER, NEVER crowded and I guess people can see why. Go to a salon that is fair and enjoys doing hair and treating people like human beings.

VERY rude, unprofessional and sub-par work. The owner(E) gave me an over priced full head weave and had me leave the salon with all of my tracks showing. When i returned to ask her to fix it, she refused to speak to me, her«day off» she said as she sat at the reception desk. She argued with me, gave me much attitude and blamed it on the«quality» of hair(Remy). She even told me to «stay on your budget» when i told her i paid too much for the service to be walking around in a hat! $ 200 btw and the hair cost me another $ 200(2 packs). How did she suggest we fix it? After much back and forth, she told me to get ANOTHER pack of hair! I went somewhere else in the same neighborhood and had her work removed and done for a whopping… wait for it… $ 100.(Wish I could post the horrible pic so you could be the judge; will hopefully figure out how.) Don’t waste your time going here. She hardly has any clientele, rents out chairs to other stylistx and is well known for her rudeness in the neighborhood. NOSTARS!

I have naturally curly/kinky hair so i went in to get it straightened… The worst experience ever!!! I told the lady(who was also natural herself) that I wanted the least amount of heat as possible, but after she washed my hair she put me under the dryer and then blew my hair out and then flat ironed it and then used a hot comb and then used a curling iron. #1 my hair did not come out straight ATALL what a waste of money. #2 I had to argue with her about how she was literally pulling my hair out and she had the nerve to ask me if I knew what type of hair I had. I’m like I’VEBEENLIVINGWITHTHISHAIRFOR21YEARS! #3 charged me $ 10 extra to use a hot comb on my ENDS after she used her cheap ass flat iron. So that was a total of $ 60 I paid for a bad press. As I said before MYHAIRWASSTILLPUFFY. I’ve gotten my hair straightened before so I know they could’ve done a better job. She was not getting a tip and I will never return to that ridiculous salon.

NEVERAGAIN The only reason why I am giving this review one star is because there isnt an option for NO stars. The owner cut my hair. I gave her a picture and asked her if she can cut my hair like the style in the photo. It was the worst hair cut of my life. The cut didnt look anything like the picture i gave her, not even remotely close. My hair was dry and brittle. My hair looked better before she cut it. I looked horrible. I went home and cried because she shaved the back of my hair with an electric shaver. I washed my hair and conditioned it with panteen and it looked better than what was used at this so called salon. And had the nerve to charge me $ 80 for a horrible cut. I told her spend it wisely cuz she will never get another dime from me. I saw her one day and she had the nerve to wave hello to me. I looked at her and rolled my eyes. She was very rude to me and very unprofessional.

DONOTGOTOTHISSALON! THEYARERUDECROOKS… Ok so I went to this«salon and spa» on several different occasions. At first it was nice because I liked my hairdresser. But the energy in the place always sucked and the stylists never looked happy. After going there for about a month, I realized that the quality of the«spa» is the same quality you get in any hairshop, but more expensive. I have had a massage, a facial, «spa» mani pedi, and hairstyling. Everything was ok, nothing special. One day I went and my stylist who was pregnant at the time had to go see the doctor. I ended up being seen by the owner, who was the only stylist in the shop. This woman is not only arrogant, but she does not know much about hair. She even told me coconut oil is bad for your hair and scalp, even though it is one of the best organic moisturizers around. Every beauty book or natural hair care website tell you that a deep condition with coconut oil is good for you. But apparently since I didn’t spend 8 months in beauty school(I am a Law student) I cant possibly know anything about hair. She was extremely rude and I walked out. The exceptionally nice and pleasant receptionist called me as I was walking home and I came back to get my hair relaxed. After relaxing my short hair the owner/manager put me under the hair drier for over an hour. My hair is the length of Rhianna’s when she had it short, so I usually stay under the drier for no more than 20 mins. After 45 mins I saw no one was in the shop. I asked the receptionist where did the owner go, because I had to pick up my daughter by a certain time. She said she didn’t know. I ended up leaving with my hair in a wrap. The next day I came back to get my hair styled. The owner charger me 85 dollars! after neglecting to style my hair with the perm, never telling me she was leaving, trying to damage my freshly relaxed hair by putting it under excessive heat for a prolonged timer… And she never even apologized. I left and didn’t go back for 8 months. I went back there last week because I wanted to get my hair colored and time restraints prevented me from going to the city. I went there because they formulate their own hair color instead of using box hair color. I had an appt for 11. I arrived at 10:45. I wasn’t seen until 1:15. Sadly the overbearing owner insists on doing most of the chemical processes herself. She is like a warden to the other hairstylists and the energy in the shop is so heavy due to this. As I said before I was under time restraints and had to pick up my daughter because her grandfather was going to work at 3pm. The owner was moving at a snails pace and had a scowl on her face for hours. At 2 I told her I needed to hurry because I was running short on time and would just leave after sitting under the dryer. I saw her go to the receptionist and whisper something, thats when I knew something was up. She again left me under the dryer until my hair was almost burnt and I had to turn off the dryer myself. When I went to pay they charged me 55 for the color and 25 for the drying. I was flabbergasted! She then said I had to pay to Wrap my half an inch long hair. I told her that drying is included in any process. Was I supposed to walk out of there with a wet head? All she did was put wrapping foam in my hair, brush it and put the sheets to hold it down over it. no styling no curls no nothing. On the receipt she charged for color and on a separate line charged for a wash and set. Where do you go that charges you for drying??? Then the owner made a rude comment, rolled her eyes and walked of like a rhino. I didn’t even have time to argue so I paid the full overpriced bill and left to get my child. This shop needs to go out of business. They employ deceptive tactics and are not well versed in hairstyling. I took my daughter with me to another reputable hair salon and they said my hair wasn’t set properly and they had to re wrap it and set me under the dryer again due to the incompetence of the Ave L «salon and spa» And I agree with the other review about the manicure. It is nothing you wouldn’t get in any standard nail shop in Brooklyn. They move so extremely slow. My mani pedi took almost 2 hours and it looked worse than if I went downtown Brooklyn. If you want to go somewhere to get quality service, respect and fair treatment this is not it! the receptionist is the only good thing about this salon. She always has a smile and always know how to conduct herself even in uncomfortable situations.

It is such a pleasure going to a Salon where customer service is number one priority. I am blown away everytime I walk through their door because I know I will be well taken care of and whatever service I get, I will be pleased. Their level of professionalism is second to none and they know you and truly care about you as a person. When I walk in, I am greeted by name and asked what service I would like… then the pampering begins. When I leave my hair looks great! My feet and hands are totally relaxed. I leave feeling empowered because I look great!
