We’ve been coming here for twelve years and it’s still our favorite getaway. Downtown Brookings is close enough for shopping and dining but being on the mouth of the winchuck river feels wonderfully remote. We spend hours just watching the surf though there is tv and dvd on hand. In the summer the beach is usually vacant because access is inconvenient for folks who don’t live here. In the winter we enjoy snuggling inside watching the rain and the waves. Any time of year has it’s strong points. The room is very clean and comfortable. The wife loves the extra deep tub. We love coming here and doing absolutely nothing.

We really enjoyed our stay here! Spent two nights here and didn’t want to leave. They are very gracious hosts and have thought of everything one might need when on vacation. Sunblock? Got it, toiletries, hot chocolate, fridge with water pitcher-nice and full! Extra pillows, blankets, towels-all provided. They even tidy up your room and clean the dishes while you are out exploring the town and nearby beaches-which we loved! Barbaras scones were the best I’ve had, my fiancé has requested I get her recipe! For those looking for«fancy», I’d stay somewhere else. Brookings is very low-key, definitely not Capitola or uppity. Very small downtown area, limited shopping. We enjoy the beaches and harbor-food was great, lots of bird watching as well. We will definitely be back next year on our yearly Oregon trip! Don’t forget to check out Great Cats off the 199 if you’re coming up thru Grants pass/Cave Junction!

I wanted to like this place– especially since the couple who runs it are clearly so nice. But this place was just not up to par. First of all, our room smelled. Like dog, probably, maybe cat. You’d think since its only doors are big sliders that it could easily be aired out(the owners have a couple dogs– not sure if they are where the smell came from). When we stayed it was pretty cold and foggy, so we couldn’t air it out. And the furnishings are VERY dated. Surprisingly so. It felt like staying in a great aunt’s basement. Complete with flies and very spotty TV/cable reception. We ended up watching something on our computer, because the wifi was more reliable than the tv. It was right on the beach, but you had to climb down some pretty dilapidated steps, through an overgrown path(that seems like it would be pretty simple to trim back, if they took the time), and then across some huge pieces of driftwood. We also had hoped for a little more privacy. Since two rooms share the same deck, even though we had a nice view, we had to keep the curtains closed for privacy. Not as romantic on our honeymoon as we had hoped. Upside– free wifi.

Very nice place. The rooms are very nicely appointed, furnished, and provisioned. The Lowdens are super friendly and helpful, and at the same time organized and clear to make arrangements with. The view from the rooms is just terrific – waves and beach and sea stacks and trees along a stretch of coast, the river in the foreground flowing into the sea, driftwood abundant here and there, not to mention the constant sound of the surf coming in the sliding-glass door. Easy access to a great beach for a terrific stroll along the sand.

I travel for pleasure and business… I’ve stayed at countless hotels and bed and breakfasts throughout the world. I always know when a business stay is great when I tell my wife that we need to stay there for pleasure! I first stayed at a chain hotel in Brookings(on the beach) and it was the worst stay of my life. I travel down to Brooking every six to eight weeks so I knew I needed a place that I felt comfortable, was clean, could accommodate my business needs(free wi-fi) and had an «it factor». Well… in the last three years I’ve stayed at Lowden’s B&B over thirteen times and I’m ready to book #14 next week. They have the«it» factor! The view is worth the stay! I’ve been there on 90 degree sunny afternoons, I’ve stayed there when the rain pelts the sliding glass door so hard you feel you’re in the middle of a Melville novel. No matter the weather you’re guaranteed a warm welcoming by Barbara and/or Gary and a clean, comfortable and awe inspiring experience! I’ve done some of my best thinking at Lowden’s…sitting out on the deck with a beer in hand watching the confluence of the Winchuck and mighty Pacific! On my last stayed I enjoyed a short stroll down to the beach(which is littered with amazing logs and wood debris) and watched a family of otters playing in the surf. Sunsets, warm breezes, amenities throughout your own private apartment… why would anyone stay anywhere else? There is no need to turn on the TV at Lowden’s! Open the drapes… uncork a bottle of wine and relax to the sounds of the Pacific! Trust me… it will be one of the best sleeps of your life.

Lovely find! Cozy, clean accommodations that beat any motel. The hosts were so friendly. The rental is attached to their house, but separate entry. Beautiful view of the coast. You can walk out the door and down to a small, semi-private beach. The best homemade scones ever, in a basket with fresh fruit and croissants. Worked out perfectly with our two young kids(mat for the carpeted floor). Fireplace in the bedroom. Their recommendations for places to eat nearby were right on. They made it easy for us to book, arrive late and leave late, and they take credit cards. Hopefully someday we will be back!
