They closed and was replaced by a 99 cent store. Like we really need another one in this are. Now I have to walk 8 blocks to go get something to eat instead of around the corner. Someone save us and put a Diner close by to where Sophie’s was

Hmm, this diner poses quite the conundrum. At first, it appears to be kind of «eeew it’s under the pigeon coop subway station…» but yet their window full of special stickers lures you in. Given the culinary wasteland that the immediate Pelham Bay area is, it’s worth a chance. The waitresses are welcoming and informal, inviting you to eat anywhere. They are patient with groups AND they split the check(always a win). Our waitress was funny and sarcastic, but not snippy. The food, on the other hand, was pretty average: my chicken sandwich was kind of thin, and the cheese wasn’t very melted, but it was passable. It’s a cheap diner so I wasn’t expecting too much. Would I return? Possibly. And by the by, they give MTA employees discounts.

Your omlettes taste like they’re from reconstituted egg mix. Your chocolate cake is stale. Your coffee is old and burnt. Though your exterior is shiny and eye-catching, you are a horrible excuse for a diner. Please close, so I can open up one that actually is 24 hours and serves good ‘diner-fare.’

Not a bad diner that’s close to home and the 6 train. Went here for breakfast yesterday. I had the omelette with spinach, cheddar and tomato. It was pretty tasty though a tad overcooked. I would have liked my omelette not so stiff. The homefries were pretty good and the coffee was very good. Our waitress was very friendly though the water boy/coffee guy seemed extremely nervous. What was up with that? Good food, great cheap prices, service as expected. Nice little diner in my ‘hood. I will be back fo sho.

I’ve had good experiences here but I’ve also had a very bad one concerning the Eggs Benedict. The good news it was super cheap($ 6.95). The bad news it was two, rock-hard eggs slathered in a «sauce» that was NOT hollandaise. Yuck. It was more like gravy. If you can’t create a particular dish, don’t offer it on the menu! Stick to the basics and you’ll do fine.

I have neglected this diner for many reasons, but none of them were good. It’s just a diner; how good could the food be? My wife and I decided to give this place a try. Upon entering, the restaurant is very nice inside and provides a warm, hospitable feeling. There is a counter and a handful of booths. You just walk in and seat yourself. The breakfast was great and the sausage links were very impressive. There is a big difference between patties and links. Links are better! My wife has had the western omelet and I have tried the«3 for all» which is 3 slices of ham, 3 sausage links, 3 strips of bacon and 3 eggs any style. All breakfasts comes with home fries(it sucks), coffee and toast. Note that coffee is not included after 11AM and is charged extra. The portions are large and we never finish them. We also tried the«Sophie Sampler» which consists of fried calamari, mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders, buffalo wings. I’ve had better samplers at Bennigans. My brother enjoyed his cheese burger, fries and potato skins and my wife enjoyed her grilled chicken wrap. On one occasion, I experienced the worst scrapple I have ever tasted. Wait a minute, I ordered meatloaf. Yes it was bad. It was so salty, I used the iceberg lettuce to wrap the meatloaf. The«Ssam» only made it barely edible. Avoid meatloaf like you would avoid kissing someone with a blatant herpes sore on their lip. Service is nominal even though it seems that there are only two friendly waitresses walking around at times. It was good, so we usually go on weekends. I just make a mental note of items not to order. I have established that I am an idiot sometimes for not trying this restaurant sooner. Free wifi with purchase in the afternoon. C’mon, homeboy, nobody rocks a laptop in the Boogie Down. IFHTP3+
