My boyfriend and I eat at Mexico Magico every few weeks and we have been beyond happy each time! The place is small but the portions are huge! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Service is quick and the food is alwafresh and authentic. The only reason they didn’t get the full 5 stars is because they charge you $ 2.00(per item) if you ask for extra spur cream(and it’s only about 2 tbs of sour cream.)

Chips were stale, food was cold and bland. Extremely overpriced for the quality of the food. I am extremely dissatisfied. Guacamole was made from canned avocados mixed with fresh onions. Mexican food is the easiest food to make! How could they get it so wrong??? Worst $ 40 spent! I chose to order from this place because of the reviews. Maybe they were just having a bad day. It happens!

Good food and nice service(and they even carry horchata sometimes, which is not common for an east coast Mexican restaurant) but a bit pricey for the Bronx and when I placed an order through Unilocal for pick up, they didn’t receive it. Better off calling if you want to place an order to go!

Not sure why this place had such high ratings, fooling me with my high expectations. Service was friendly and our food came in a timely manner. Food presentation was also on point but the food tasted just bleh. Chips didn’t taste fresh. Guacamole had a smooth texture and was mediocre at best(we definitely had better from another restaurant a short drive from here). The meal portions were a tad bit on the small side considering the price. My dish was spicy and that was all I could taste. My husband’s chicken was too salty and he complained the meat was sliced so thin, he finished and was still hungry. We did enjoy the thinly sliced avocados, side salad and sour cream – But then again, you can’t really mess those up. To sum up our experience, the food was just so-so leaving us unsatisfied and wishing for more. Would we come back? Probably not at this time.

You might want to keep your eyes on your plate @@ I typically enjoy Mexican food and decided to take my daughter and her friend here for dinner one week night. The place looks clean in the seating area but it is pretty small and usually only one staff person available. My daughter’s friend ordered a burrito and we waited a long time for our meals. When it arrived, the large burrito was cut in half, what happened next made her cry. Out sprinkled some rice and beans along with a cooked still whole cockroach. Apparently there’s a pest control problem along with a cleanliness issue in the back. Upon calling the lady over to see, her only reaction was an «omg, I’m sorry». Needless to say I will never return. I had a lot of explaining and comforting to do to a sobbing 12 year old. Careful where you eat.

Ever since la Lupita closed, I have been looking for a new go-to spot for Mexican food. I found it! This place has good food for moderate prices. Their guacamole is very good and they’ve got excellent flautas and tacos. Tacos don’t come with rice and beans, the flautas do though. Once I tried the torta milanesa and I didn’t like it to be honest, the meat had a very strange flavor… I don’t think I will be buying that from them again but everything else was delicous! Will be returning for more yummy food.

This spot is actually a hole in the wall. A true secret gem. The outside looks like nothing but when you come in you find it to be a humble little spot with the cutest décor such as Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera paintings. So much color in this place. I had the carne asada and it was so flavorful and delicious. The service is extremely nice too which really just adds to this amazing little restaurant. My one year old niece was with us and they cut up her grilled chicken for her in small pieces(which was delicious by the way). Would definitely recommend and come back!

Still good not sure why they only have 3 ½ stars. This place is really good. Like I said, Unilocal should have a 10 star rating system instead of five. I would say eight out of 10.

This place is fantastic and the Food is phenomenal!!! As for Unilocaler«Larry» and the novel he wrote, I believe his bleeding gums were not from the tortilla shells he claimed to be hard as shards of glass, but instead, from his bad case of gingivitis.(Hence the reason his daughter looked at him with watery eyes). This clown took the time to «peruse» the dictionary to use fancy vocabulary words to write a damn review… Not to mention, he was more dramatic then a soap opera. That in itself is hysterical and should warn you not to judge this place by this jack ass’ poor review of this great restaurant.(Thanks Lar) This poor sap doesn’t know what good food is even if it smacked his palate with a sledge hammer. Bottom line is, food is great here and very authentic. This guy should never be allowed to write another review on Unilocal ever again.

Not good at all! Guacamole tasted like Taco Bell’s. Rice and beans were very bland. I ordered take out. Thank god I didn’t order an actual meal. I called and spoke to the woman answering the phones. She didn’t seem to care

My daughter of seven years and I literally stumbled upon this Mexican enclave hidden between two businesses and directly behind a bus shelter. We started off by looking for a Mexican eatery by perusing Unilocal and headed off in the rain to search and then discover, the diminutive store front with poor signage. I mean really poor signage. At dusk, many will find it quite challenging to find a Mexican restaurant with and get this, a purple/fuchsia sign with the words«Mexico Magico» scribed closely together and directly in the center of the sign. I’ll say this in that regard, «A Little says a lot, and a lot says a little.» The sign should be screaming«MEXICANFOOD» so that it can be recognized with very little effort. Trust me, unless you live in the neighborhood and I do not, you’ll miss this place. Which incidentally wouldn’t have been a bad idea after all. Upon entering you are greeted by a kind young lady who offered us the menu. After selecting the Taco trio for my daughter and the Carne Asada for me, she returned with the complimentary tortilla chips and Salsa. While the salsa had the right balance of acidity and heat, the tortillas were over-fried, hard, shells that could have doubled for glass shards. My gums were literally assaulted by the sharp, brittle, and over-cooked tortillas. Once the meal arrived, we were quickly reminded of the poorly trained chef who failed to season the meat on both our plates. My daughter has never, ever, asked for the salt shaker before. Since I’m a stickler for sodium control, my daughter looked me directly in my eyes, picked up the salt shaker and literally said«please dad, I really need to do this.» Naturally, I said yes. I simply couldn’t resist her brown eyes glassed over with tears. The rice on my plate had a burnt taste to them and the refried beans were not refried and tasted like it had been contaminated with a chemical like substance.eeeww. Of course, after learning of what happened at Hawaii Sea Restaurant, I left most of it behind. When we requested water, the young girl quickly returned with a pitcher and poured water that was so warm that it reminded me of what the temperature of urine is. Quickly thereafter, when the waitress noticed a family member on the outside who was walking a dog, she rushed outside to greet both.(Huh???) All in all, I am still dumb founded as to the grading system that Unilocalers use to grade their gastronomic experiences. I, on the other hand, will stop short of believing Unilocalers with their poor sense of taste and subsequent reveling reviews. From now on, is me and me alone. I will not allow any one of you Unilocalers to lie to me again. Bleeding gums, urine tempered water, and chemical infused beans will never, ever equate to a good dining experience. This include meals had in Mexico. My recommendation: Eat at your own risk! Taco Bell may be a better option. Just a side note: On 5÷9÷2015, I received an unwelcoming reply to my email from a Unilocaler who identifies himself as Finest One P. There’s no question that he has a vested interest in this restaurant. Aside from calling me a «poor sap,» «clown,» and«jack ass,» he took the time to make note of my weight and oral health without ever meeting me. He also posted a self-aggrandizing review by attempting to lambaste my review and character. I write this in that regard: I sincerely believe that you’re time will be better served in serving quality, unspoiled, and healthy food to your customers. Intimidation and surly responses to your restaurant reviews detailing horrendous and disgusting service, will never equate to a fine dining experience… As far as using a dictionary to write my reviews which he also noted,. which word(s) did you have difficulty with? For your personal edification, I write my reviews based upon an eighth grade reading level,.papi.

My family has ordered from this place regularly but after the last THREE times of trying to hope for the best, we will not order from them again. The owner really needs to regroup and check for quality and freshness. You have made us sick! The gauc had spoiled avocados. Your chicken burrito was cold and tasteless. And your tortilla soup, which is the best ever until now, was not spicy and just a bowl of slop.

I order here maybe once every couple of weeks and pretty much everything I’ve ordered has been great. Granted I don’t go to a ton of authentic Mexican spots but in terms of ingredients I feel it’s about as fresh as you can get given the neighborhood. The menu favorites are pretty straight forward and in terms of portion sizing, make sure you’re hungry because it’s almost always served, «family-style». My favorites are the burritos and nachos. Usually when nachos get cold, they congeal, and become pretty unappetizing, I’m guessing it’s because nothing seems to be reheated or smothered in microwaveable cheese, but they have amazing nachos. I would recommend this place based solely on the nachos. Onto the service, I’ve never been to the restaurant but as far as phone etiquette and delivery service, they’re really friendly to deal with. Even during peak hours, the staff is always helpful when explaining an item on the menu. Overall, it’s a really great addition to the neighborhood, especially since the options are pretty much pizza or Chinese/Japanese take-out.

I was in the mood for a Burrito, then remembered I have a Mexican restaurant right around the corner. I ordered a shrimp burrito(off menu item) and it was SO good!!! They seasoned the shrimp PERFECTLY! While I was there, they had a $ 5 off coupon through GrubHub so I grabbed one. I order again the following day but opted for delivery. I received my order within 35 minutes and it was pretty good. The only reason for 4 not 5 stars was because I made a request to add shrimps through the online system and they didn’t make it that way… It was just a plain veggie burrito. I wasn’t charged extra, but I was hoping to have the same feel as the day before :’(. I really enjoy the 3 salsas and chips that comes with every order.

GREAT food, great tasting salsa, thoughtful, friendly service, excellent for a mid-lower priced meal. Glad we went here; FYI Top Tortillas nearby just a take-out place. [Ordered tacos w salted beef]: From Unilocal recs. Sounds simple, was delicious. What struck me when bit into it was«deliciously fresh». Onions, tomato, etc crunchy-fresh, contrast deliciously w the soft, savory meat. «Taco» doesn’t do it justice; unlike any I’ve ever had. Chimichanga w cheesecake filling tasty dessert, but not as cool as the entrée. [Salsa]: On the savory end, not too spicy but has a good kick, tends towards the succulently sour pickled jalapeño end of things. Found myself wanting to keep eating it after chips were gone. Really love a mex place w good salsa. [Atmosphere, Service]: Surprised it had a nice, pleasant atmosphere for a small restaurant that’s not upscale. Surprised also by the presentation of the food, gourmet style we didn’t expect. Service knew how to have a discreet presence, not intrusive.
