The food here is decent, but definitely not worth the price! Unless you eat kosher meat and then it’s about what you’d expect. Steer clear of the sushi and you’ll be fine.

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. i should have known better because so many of the negative reviews sounded right but I so wanted to believe that there is a good kosher restaurant in Riverdale. But this isn’t it. I had the Korean ribs which were too sweet and my companion had the happy family which was bland.

**To the owner who responded: First, let me say thank you for responding. I’m ok with admitting if I’m wrong and I get why a 2 year hiatus might seem suspect. Except that, while this account was not active for 2 years, it is now and this restaurant is not the only new review to be posted this year. The staff, while friendly, did not check up on our table except to get the order and give the check(which is fine by me). Knowing many who work in the hospitality business, I know that people who complain about the food just to get it free is a major issue which is why I have personally never done it(even if the experience was not good). Maybe my inexperience with kosher food is what made the flavor so off for me, I’m willing to admit that but ultimately it does not change that the food was, personally, flavorless. So far it seems that my review is the only one you responded too. Perhaps consider looking over the review that complained about an 1hr and 50min wait, or the one who also found the food flavorless or the other review that felt uncomfortable by one of your workers, or the family with 2 children who waited an hour for food(some members even left without getting their food). Take a gander at the Tipper who said they became ill after eating at Kai Fan. Again, thank you for responded back. Wish you well in all your endeavors.** So I get that alot of Asian cuisines are ‘Americanized’ and many are turned into greasy, fatty demonized versions of the real thing. With that said, this place was the complete opposite of that spectrum. Let me start with one good thing about the place: the inside is nice. None of the food had any sort of flavor. NONE. We got fried wontons: no flavor and made almost entirely out of fired dough. The only flavor this had was of frying oil. I got the Beef Pad Thai: no flavor, no peanuts, no sauce. Again, it tasted just of oil and the beef was similar to half cooked Steak-umms. I had to put soy sauce on just to give it some kind of flavor(I never and would have never thought this was an acceptable option with Pad Thai). He got the beef and broccoli: Again, fried Steak-umms. We pretty much spent the whole date just looking at each other, looking at the food, moving it around with our forks, and looking back up at each other wondering why the hell we just spent $ 23/entrée that has absolutely no flavor(except for the flavor of oil), Two college aged boys came, ordered food, took a couple of bites, then asked for the check and left. They didn’t even remotely finish their meal(or take it to go) but they did pay for the check. The waitstaff was a bit slow but not so bad to really comment on(that’s saved for the terrible food). I watched the video for Kai Fan and no, Bobby Lu, not all your customers have a wonderful experience. I would be embarrassed to recommend the place to someone who came from any area in Asia. Nobody is still thinking about your food when they go home. Except for how terrible it was to waste money on it.

Best Chinese food in the food desert that is Riverdale. That Sichuan Beef in chili stock is what’s up. The quality of the meat is better than any other Chinese restaurant around. Glad for this addition on Riverdale Ave.

The first time I went here, I went during lunch with my husband and daughter. We were the only ones in the restaurant and the food took over an hour to get to us, but the food was delicious and it was good portion size.(we got the lunch special) We felt extremely uncomfortable though, because one of their workers decided to sit with us and talk to us our ENTIRE meal and we could not enjoy ourselves at all. We wanted to have Chinese tonight for dinner, so we decided to order the lunch special again but for takeout. We spent around $ 45.00 for food, and one of the things we got was the salmon teriyaki bento box, because we got it last time and it was amazing. This time though was bad. Last time they put 3 nice size pieces of salmon, this time it was a half a piece of salmon, which was very dry. We call to complain and they just said next time we order they will give us «more.» Only problem is I am not coming back again. I had to spend $ 15.95 for a half a piece of salmon, why would I spend that again for them to give me 2 pieces of salmon. The wonton soup was tasteless. The rice needs salt. We also got the General Tso’s chicken which was good, and the beef was good. Overall I did not like my experience sitting down in the restaurant, and they give a lot smaller portions for takeout which is just not worth the money, which is way overpriced to begin with.

Okay found this little gem in neighborhood on a Sunday walk with #moiBeastie, after missing brunch at our local Tim Marin we decided to try Kai Fun since it looked new open and clean and they had a little bit of everything Asian… so let me add that the are kosher friendly which is big in that neighborhood… so they were very family active at the moment on Sunday afternoon. Which served in our favor I guess… all dishes were or rather had the fresh to made… I just went into my garden taste which was refreshing and just palate enjoyable and a welcomed change from all being drowned in brown or white sauce. And the appetizers are interesting and tasty. A little pricey but the portions and standard and presentation of the food was worth it. So this will be in rotation on occasion pricing wise or when I really want some good fresh sushi oh didn’t I mention they do that too.

Food is excellent. Freshly made and wonderful taste. This is the best sesame chicken i have ever eaten in my life. The same recipes from previous Ginger Grill. The store has a fresh makeover with a nice bar and large TV. Nice atmosphere and can accommodate a business meeting, a date, or something more casual. Service is prompt and friendly. Food is really good.

Service — took 1 hour and 50 minutes because we ordered on their website. Food was okay. Ordered the Vegetable tofu dish. Tofu had unique taste, kind of weird taste. Short ribs were tough… okay. General Tso’s was good. Didn’t realize the Spring roll order was literally one roll.

My family and I dined here due to recommendations from friends who are considered«foodies». So, needless to say, we had very high expectations. We were told that this was a newly renovated restaurant which is now under new management and friends boasted about the beautiful modern décor but I didn’t expect to walk into a restaurant(in river dale, Bronx) of all places and see what I saw. The opened airy ambiance was perfect for dining on a beautiful day or night. The restaurants décor was absolutely gorgeous! Even their bathrooms! The managers and employees are super friendly and was on top of everything. Now, the food. If I could give 10 stars on Unilocal I would In a heart beat. Their sushi bar there blew my mind, some of the freshest sushi and sashimi I ever had in my life. Beautifully presented and just perfect. We also ordered some if their other dishes and not one was disappointing. Bottom line, everything superseded my expectations. Dine here and you will not regret it.

I was introduced to this asian fusion, Kosher? Jap? place, lol to be honest, i wasn’t expecting much. however, when the food came, i was satisfied. For the price im paying, im contended. We had a cute server name cat recommending the goodies and provided us with great service. she kept on coming back and forth asking if we needed anything or how was the food to a point where it got a bit annoying hahahah. It’s cool, great courtesy. Wouldn’t mind coming back again for the waitress ahha i meant food =]

The sushi here is so fresh. Im a sushi fanatic and I love their wild Alaskan King salmon sashimi. The chef special rolls were very unique and pretty. Of course they were delicious as well. I recommend the kiwi mango roll and Las Vegas roll. My friends loves the sushi sandwiches and Godzilla rolls. Overall I had a wonderful experience here. Service was great and the food was superb!

Overall in this area, the sushi is considered pretty excellent. Especially the rolls! They were delicious and we had a great experience with our server named Cat. She gave us a brief recommendation of what we should order based upon what she thought was popular by the crowd and she always went back and forth to our table to ask if we needed anything or how the food was. Quality service from this girl, that’s partially why I rated this restaurant five stars. You can’t expect too much for the price you’re paying here. Some people are expecting $ 100 worth fresh Japan shipped sashimi or sushi but are only willing to pay $ 12-$ 30 for it. Anyways, must give props to my server that night and the sushi she recommended! Definitely coming back again!

The food was delicious and fresh. The sauces were incredibly flavored without the extra salt and oil. We enjoyed the clean environment and our waiter was very professional, and came to the table often to make sure everything was ok. We are definitely coming back. Yum!

We had high hopes for this new restaurant in Riverdale and were very disappointed. We ordered a variety of food and were completely let down. The miso soup has no seaweed in it and no flavor whatsoever. It had not been seasoned and tasted like wonton soup. The cold tofu appetizer is a giant block of tofu. The sauce that it came with was tasty, but bad presentation and nothing to write home about. Pad thai had no flavor whatsoever. We had to add a ton of salt. Scallion pancakes were decent, but almost no scallion inside. Chicken dumplings were tasty and the soy garlic chicken wings were our favorite. This restaurant needs to learn how to season its food properly. We will most likely not be ordering from here again, which is really too bad.

Basically food was very mediocre. Hot and sour soup was decent. Hot oil Beef dish not very tasty. Spicy chicken was better. They need to improve quality of food or they won’t stay in business too long. I would try one more time before writing it off.

nobody in my 8 person family was happy. the place is poorly managed and the food is sub par. there are not enough waiters either and the food takes forever. my sister for example ordered a dish only to find out after an hour that they don’t have it the same thing happened to my brother in law after 40 minutes. my father and brother never got any food and left after an hour. we had 2 kids who eventually got their food but they were having real trouble waiting the half hour plus it took to get it. even my soup took a half hour. then my dish came and it had no seasoning and i was told after i got it that people are supposed to season it themselves. eventually we got a bill and it had a mistake on it. it took a lot of complaining and yelling for anyone in management to take responsibility and do anything about it. avoid this place at all costs

Went in today, their first official day open, to grab some lunch. Everyone was extremely friendly, the place had great vibes and looked clean and beautiful. My sushi was fresh and delicious, and the hot food was great as well. Looking forward to coming back to try more of the menu!
