I run to Jj’s to pick up a cheap bottle of white, on sale for 8 dollars, for cooking dinner for a crowd. The guy tells me they have minimum for credit cards, and eight dollars(the price for the bottle) isn’t it. There is no minimum for credit cards, I tell the guy. He takes the bottle out of the bag; we’re done; he won’t meet my eyes. There no reason to legally deny service to a person who’s paying with a credit card. It’s not legal. I’ve seen the very same clerk sell a drunk college kid a large bottle of hard liquor several times; and my brother, with me, bought a bottle of Bogle zinfandel last week, on his credit card, for under the fake ‘minimum’. I’ve shopped here maybe twice in the past year. Tonight reminds me of why: no problem shilling booze to barely-legal kids who are already drunk. Won’t sell a sober adult a bottle of wine because it’s five dollars below their«minimum». They won’t miss me. It’s mutual.

Francis couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. I’ll definitely be back soon! Prices are pretty reasonable and the selection is awesome.

This is my go-to wine and spirits in the Bronx. even though their wine selections are small, they carry some pretty good wine that you can’t find at the other wine discount stores in proximity. also they have two regular guys there that are helpful and chill.

I’m finding more and more that the small liquor stores that call themselves wine shops, vineyards, etc… often don’t sell as much wine as they do liquor, and therefore don’t have a great selection(read the review of vineland wine cellars for a horror-story expose’ on such a place). This place, however, has a nice guy working there(Jay Lee), and, for the size and neighborhood(overwhelmingly an over 60 crowd), they’ve got a pretty good and pretty broad selection. New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs, Bordeauxs, Napa, Boujelais… not bad. They’re not going to have any cult cabs or small case productions, but no one’s probably looking for that here, anyway. A fine place to pick up a bottle of Franciscan or Honig.
