Jeff has been able to take a look at where I am, and at what I want to learn, and adjust his teaching method to what I need. Online tutorials cannot give you customized lessons. And Jeff is very talented, and has taught me many techniques and theory that I was not aware I should learn. He knows what I do and do not know, and can pull me up to speed on the things that I do not know, but should if I want to be a decent guitarist. Also, Jeff challenges me to try new things, and to actually learn songs. I find that when I just use the internet, I play the same songs over and over again, or maybe I play through the chords of a song once and put it away. Jeff has encouraged me to try new songs/techniques, and to take the time to actually learn them. Having someone direct you in what you need to work on has been very effective, and I feel I have wasted a lot less time playing the same songs over and over again without improving. He pushes me, and introduces me to new techniques that I would not have been able to find on my own on the internet. Jeff is very flexible with what we do. If there is something I want to learn, or a technique I want to try, he already knows how to teach it to me, and he teaches me on the spot. Whether it is a new song, or a new technique, I have found Jeff to be extremely talented with the ability to teach me anything I want, and things I did not even know I wanted. I have really enjoyed the lessons. Jeff is pleasant company, and has helped me become a much better guitarist(just ask my friends!).

There is a lot of information out on the computer to help you learn guitar. While it might be very low cost financially, it isn’t necessarily low cost from a time perspective. Even the best guitar players still take lessons face-to-face with teachers because it works. Getting feedback from a teacher is something that no digital option can really do. It’s also really important to play with other people. You will progress faster with a good teacher that is a fit for you. For me, the lessons gave me a boost in confidence and put structure around my practicing. I’m really busy, so being efficient is super important to me. The lessons really made me confident that what I was practicing would get me where I wanted to be. What I really liked about Jeff is that he was interested in my goals. He wanted to help me with the music that I care about and with what I wanted to learn. He didn’t force me to learn what he likes or just show off how awesome of a player he is. Believe me, you don’t want a teacher who uses your time to just play himself. My two favorite things about the lessons were playing together with Jeff and filling in the gaps that I had — even very basic ones. I’ve done so many things to try to learn guitar. The quickest way to learn is to play with a teacher. You can waste a lot of time online and making mistakes playing on your own. I wish I could go back in time and waste less time learning the wrong things.

I started taking guitar lessons from Jeff and quickly felt at ease with the instrument. Jeff has made taking music lessons not only fun but less intimidating. He has a prepared a general lesson manual that provides fun and informative lessons coupled with learning any song that you request. This provides continued interest as most music lessons can be very repetitive. He is very knowledgeable about the instrument and interested in your progress. I highly recommend him for any pupil young or old!
