These guys are like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. If they are in control telling you what is wrong and what it will cost and you agree, they are nicey nice — but if you so much as question the diagnosis, these big burly guys become quite aggressive.
One of my friends had the same thing happen and she told me it would happen. I went back for a battery that they said was the alternator, and when I pointed out that the battery looked terrible and was beyond its life and the alternator was only 2 years old, they told me a thing or two and kicked me out and told me never to return, and left the alternator belt loose, probably to make it look like it was the alternator.
I took it to NTB, and they tightened the belt, gave me a new battery and tested the alternator and it was no problem and still has not been. I was not going to write a review, or say anything until one of the guys from MacKenzie backed straight out on to Lincoln Street without looking when I was driving by. I screeched to a halt and the big guy with the mustache jumped out of his truck screaming foul remarks at me and blocking my car.
Not sure if he remembered me as the ‘not my alternator guy’ or if he just has a bad temper, but I would tell my neighbors to avoid this place at all costs. They may be nice when you say yes sir, pay up and go on your way, but the slightest thing and you may just fear driving by the place.

Great service by knowledgeable mechanics. A true neighborhood business. inspections quick and Easy. Service reliable and reasonably priced. I’ve taken new to me used vehicles there and always get an honest evaluation.

I needed to get my motorcycle inspected and called up MacKenzie Motors. They had said they were done for the day and asked if I could come in the next day. I wouldn’t have been able to, so the individual who was inspecting said he could stay for me to get there, basically more than a half-​hour after he was suppose to be done for a stranger.
I showed up and they were all really nice. Very personable and obviously willing to stay after work to help someone out. They have my business.

Good guys. When an alternator that they had previously installed failed about a year out of warranty, they replaced it for me at their cost for the part and no labor charge. They also accommodated me needing to have it done right away even though they were obviously slammed at the time. Recommended.

They stand behind their work, even when a problem that was not their fault needs to be fixed. My alternator failed in May of 2013. In March of 2014, the alternator MacKenzie had installed stopped working (this was the fault of the manufacturer, not MacKenzie). I called them just to find out about the warranty for the part. They had me come over immediatly and replaced the alternator on the spot, shook my hand and sent me home — no bill, no questions. Not only did they take care the warranty on the parts, but put twice the labor into the job for no additional charge. They wanted to make it right, and did it extremely quickly. Thanks! Also, in previous experiences both of the MacKenzie brothers have been completely candid, very honest about when they have time to fix things, and about whether something is worth fixing. On top of all this, they are honest about what they charge and earn the money they ask for. You can’t ask for more from a service place. They totally deserve your business.

I found this place after reading the rave Unilocal reviews and the reviews were right! So accommodating and made me feel very welcome to the neighborhood! I just moved to boston from LA and Mackenzie auto will be my new go-​to for anything my car needs! They are quick and very good customer service, thanks guys!

Been here multiple times; Alternator, Tires, Brakes, Stickers, and they are top notch every time. Good service, reasonable prices, and friendly. Have recommended to friends and they have all had similar experiences.

Always a pleasure to deal with these guys. They are the definition of ‘what you see is what you get’, no aces up their sleeves. This is the second time I have walked away without having to pay a dime. The first was for having my tires rotated but forgetting to leave them the special socket to get the wheels off and now taking the time to tighten up a release valve on the radiator they installed last Fall. Granted, they installed the radiator and it had only been 9 months since but it was the lack of surprise charges and friendly service that will have me coming back.

I love these guys! Super easy for a quick state inspection. This year my car was fine, but last year something showed up on the code reader that needed a repair so I had to schedule repairs for the following week (they could’ve done it that day, but I needed to get to work). Usually I would go to the dealership with that stuff but I felt comfortable going back.
Well, the next week I brought my car back and whatever had been going wrong with the code reader wasn’t happening anymore. They didn’t charge me for the extra time or testing, just the inspection. I really appreciated it!

I went here for a quick state inspection before work (opens 8 am) because it’s close to my house. It is a small garage populated with friendly, local people with the typical boston accent. All the employees had the crude, quasi-​sassy, boisterous demeanor that I would expect and find endearing in an honest sort of way.
As my car was inspected, the man guessed I was Polish and started talking to me in Polish, about Polish bars in the area, the Polish demographic in the area, etc. Reminded me of home.
The inspection took 10 minutes. They screwed my new front license plate into my front bumper for me and also. They put the inspection sticker next to my Roberts Towing sticker and proceeded to warn me, «Don’t take that sticker off — I know the guys — they’re real bastards.»
Synopsis: Got car inspected quickly — they’re friendly, fun to talk to, especially juxtaposed with the highbrow, quiet, conservative engineers I work with all day.
Can’t say anything about their other services, though. Would consider coming back if something goes wrong with my car — hell if I know the internal workings of a car — besides knowing the disgusting electromagnetics behind a 3 phase generator/​alternator.

I’m honestly not sure why I don’t always go straight here for repairs. I’ve gone here the last 2 years for my inspection and they always get me in right away, are really nice, and fix the little things (like a burned out taillight) and very little cost to get me my sticker and on my way.
I’ve been fighting with the dealership for about 6 months because my car isn’t running right and the check engine light keeps coming on, but they say nothing is wrong. I brought it to Boston Automotive and they wanted $ 99 just to run a diagnostic! I remembered my peasant experiences here at MacKenzie so I brought it in. Within 5 minutes (and no cost) I had a diagnosis of the problem and an appointment to drop it off for repair. Thank you!

I’ve had a bunch of work on my truck done here, and they have done a great job every time. Their prices are fair, and they finish when they say they will.

As far as motorcycle inspections go, they were awesome!
The guys here were easy to chat with, nice, and they are convenient… they’re open at 8am for inspections, so you could go early before work (which I’ll do next time)!!

After having owned a lemon (a 2000 VW Jetta: AVOID AT ALL COSTS), I have seen many mechanics and am pretty particular about where I’ll take my car. Fast-​forward to my present car, a 2007 Toyota Yaris. Sure, it’s not fancy by any means, but it is totally reliable and I want it to stay that way.
I have taken my car to Mackenzie Motors three times now, each time for an inspection. Each time I am in and out in 10 minutes, the service is unfailingly polite, and this time I was even offered a homemade brownie by one of the mechanics (his wife had brought them in).
The delicious brownie notwithstanding, I love that I have a mechanic in the Boston area who won’t try to rip me off and recommend services my car doesn’t need. Today my mechanic suggested I think about new tires, which I know I need, but he a) didn’t try to sell me anything, and b) didn’t use scare tactics either. On top of that, the service was quick and pleasant.
I will return to Mackenzie Motors for all of my car care needs and have recommended them to friends.

These guys were great!
I had my Ranger in for a few repairs, front shackles, serpentine belt, gas tank straps, center bearing, u joints, and a front end alignment. They were friendly and quick.
Got my truck back two days later and I would’ve had my truck back in a day had they not needed to order a part.
Their labor rate is a little cheaper than some other big name garages, which you would think would be the other way around.
I just brought my truck back there yesterday on my lunch break to get an inspection and they were able to do it right away, all of 10 minutes later I’m riding back to work with a new sticker.
I will be recommending these guys to anyone in need of car repair.

…Not only all of that, but now I just called them back to ask if I could schedule an oil change, so I could make it to work on time and get the car set.
Not only did they oblige me, but he remembered my story and voice from the last time I was in! These are definitely people who are geared toward helping their customers.

They were great. I called on a Thursday and wanted an appointment on Sat morning since I was going out of town. I also wanted to bring my own synthetic oil and they accommodated me. The front brakes, synthetic oil change and air filter change including tax and OEM equipment was $ 336 which is probably about half of what the stealership would have charged me. They also gave me a ride to Breugger’s bagels and back. Would highly recommend them. Honest guys in business for 33 years

Brought my motorcycle here for Massachusetts inspection. They were friendly, greeted me promptly, and I was out of there in 10 minutes.

I brought my car here once on the recommendation of my roommate. From the opening conversation, it was a disaster.

When I picked up my car the oil was changed, and was told that I needed new tires.
«really? I just got the car. What’s wrong»
«you need new tires. We have very competitive prices»
«ok, but what’s wrong with them?»
«you need new ones.»
Uhhhh huh.
So I took my car to Monroe because I didn’t fully trust that they even changed the oil, and while it was true that I needed new tires, Monroe was able to explain that was going on with the tires I had. It turned out that I needed a few other minor things.. . like new brake pads, and there was an issue with the struts. I was even able to take a look myself, and just to be totally safe, I got a third opinion. Turns out Monroe was right and MacKenzie sucks
I wouldn’t trust these guys with a trikie.
