The quality of their service really sucks now! I have been going to the store since last 3 years only because there was no other convenience store around. But now that a new convenience store opened right across this store I don’t think I will go here again. I have been getting bad milk and ice cream over and over again! I have a small kid who depends on healthy fresh food so I expect that they would provide us with fresh milk but several times but it’s almost every time I get ny hands onto expired milk. This is for my child’s safety and I am not ready to accept this. Since they fired their old employees, I think there is no one to properly take care of this business. The owners at the front don’t know how to communicate well with customers. The lady specially does not know the prices ever and has to call her husband every time. This is waste of my time and I just have to wait extra 3 – 4 mins to get the«updated» prices. They are REALLY bad at customer service and specially when it comes to serving non-American communities around their store! I would highly avoid them if you want to save money and get fresh food.

I’ve never bothered to write a review of a corner store, but this one deserves it! Everything you’d expect *plus* a wide variety of «100% juice» juices(in the far row), veggies, onions & potatoes(back corner), Swiss chocolate, good variety of healthy, pre-packaged bread, healthy mac & cheese, and as healthy frozen food as exists, and much more. The staff is really welcoming and helpful with the best professional attitude towards customers! THEYDOCARRYGOODVARIETYOFINTERNATIONALFOOD! …If I was a college student in the area, I don’t even think I’d need another store!

I was on the hunt for a DiGiorno pizza last night(the product of both hunger and laziness post-Thanksgiving), and Margot G suggested I try out Lee’s Supermarket. She put it in New York terms for me and called it a «bodega» and asked me to pick her up a can of soda as well. Skeptical, I left the house thinking«well at least I’ll find the can of soda no problem!» Lee’s, located right next to our Chinese take-out place(Chang’s), doesn’t look like much from the outside. However, walk in and you’re greeted with not only lights that work, but a large selection of food, beverages, etc. I found the can of soda and noticed a large selection of not only soda, but Gatorade, juices, water, etc. AND I even had *choices* about what kind of oven pizza I should get. While $ 8.99 is a bit ridiculous for a DiGiorno pizza, I opted for a less expensive, smaller pizza for $ 2.50 and a box of Bagel Bites(remember those?) for $ 2.50. I noticed a sad looking shelf of «fresh» fruits and veggies over in the corner by the door, but you’d have to be either a) insane, or b) insane to try those out. Like all bodegas, cash only unless you’re spending over $ 5. Hey, the bodegas in NYC generally make you do at least $ 10 or $ 20 so I’m not complaining!

Lee must have been feeling optimistic when he decided to call his convenience store a «supermarket» but I suppose every small business owner has the right to a dream. Contrary to Jillian Y’s assertion, I doubt Lee’s Supermarket is any relation to Lee’s I and Lee’s II. The guys behind the counter are not nearly surly enough to be part of that dreadful concern and the store doesn’t give off the vibe that the proprietors are just about to fold up their tents and steal off into the night. In fact, Lee’s Supermarket carries a fair selection of convenience store food, as well as a good variety of newspapers(including the NY papers), ice cream, lottery tickets, and calling cards. On the downside, the dairy case has a perpetual spoilt milk smell that brings back memories of the trash cans outside my elementary school cafeteria.

I’m pretty sure this place is related to Lee’s I and II but who knows? Anyhow, I love it. The family that works there/runs the place is so sweet, and they’ve always got fresh bananas and tortillas(two of my favorite foods and most necessary items to keep in the house). They also have Kinder Bueno(if you’ve ever lived in Europe, you know what I’m talking about) and a great ice cream selection. A little expensive, but hey, this is no supermarket, what do you expect? Don’t forget, $ 5 minimum on credit cards.
