Ah man, this was pretty disappointing, even with a couple whiskeys under the belt. $ 11.95 for chicken and broccoli… Without rice. It’s also not super obvious that it doesn’t come with rice, either, so watch yourself. Come on guys, rice is super cheap. Step up your game. Chicken was your typical sup-par twice defrosted sadness. The sauce gave it a weird seafood like taste, which isn’t entirely disagreeable… Just weird. Broccoli was less disappointing. Would not recommend even as drunk food. Edit: Whoops. Looks like I knocked them down from 2.5 to 2 stars. Accurate depiction.

This is the worst service i have ever receive. The delivery noted about 30 minutes later and didn’t come for another hour and a half. Never order from this restaurant. When i called to ask for an update they would not transfer me to a manager.

Haven’t been in many years but since our fave place changed hands and went downhill we thought«let’s try Dragon Chef again». We were quite disappointed. The rice & lo main were almost black in color. The batter on the chicken fingers was great on some pieces but not on others. The sweet & sour chicken sauce was thicker than wallpaper paste.

Below average pork lo mein, tasteless spareribs and subpar chicken fingers… and I entered very hungry… takeout only, sorta dingy inside. As Dana Carvey would say, ‘not gonna do it’ again!

I love Dragon Chef for late night Chinese food cravings. The staff is always pleasant — there’s one guy that I stop in to chat with even when I’m not ordering Chinese food just because he so nice and always good to shoot the shit with. They’re food is great for the price and the portions tend to be generous. They’re my go to for crab rangoons! It’s quick and close to home which is also a plus. On a side note, I don’t understand the love people are showing for New Hong Kong — bad food and several people I know(and me) have gotten food poisoning after eating there; I’ve never had that problem with Dragon Chef

I just moved nearby this place and decided to give it a try. It was horrible! I ordered the Pork Low mein. And I was flavorless and had literally only two strands of pork and almost no veggies. I also got the curry eggroll and it was so hard and dry that it was almost not edible. This is not even a late night drunk munchies spot. The dipping sauce for the eggroll had the consistency of water and defiantly tasted waters down. DONOTGOHERE!

I’m not sure how this place stays in business. I guess because it’s conveniently located in Brighton center and it’s cheap. Nothing in my combination platter was good. its hard to mess up Chinese but somehow this place succeeded. Do yourself a favor and spend an extra $ 1 and a few steps and check out New Hong Kong in Oak Square instead. The quality of the food is noticeably better. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

Lousy food, place is dark and gross, they got the order wrong, overcharged by $ 3, and then started screaming at us when we pointed it out. The hell?

I dont want to mince my words — I just ordered the sesame chicken special for 9.50(after tax). There were 6 pieces of lukewarm heavily breaded mushy chicken and dry white rice. This was, literally, the saddest meal of my life. I was(am) starving and I was excited to try a new place down the street my new house. I liked the open kitchen — none of that sketchy behind a curtain shenanigans that conjures images of rat meat, I liked the menu and the guy was friendly enough. My friends laughed at how pathetic this meal was. I am now the butt of a joke because this place makes such sad pathetic horrible portions of sad pathetic horrible food. For close to 10 $, you can buy a lot things — «food» from this place should not be one of them.

This place was disgusting. The chow mein was flavorless and had the consistency of actual snot. As did the beef and broccoli. How do you make beef and broccoli flavorless? I’m not sure… ask Dragon Chef. Will never go here again.

Food is just OK, but you can get an excellent portion to price ratio if you get one of the specials. I’d recommend Chang’s House over this place, though.

24.65 for Sweet and Sour chicken combo with crab rangoon and 2 liter of ginger. On the menu it’s 6.50 s&s chicken 1.75 for crab rangoon add-on 2 $ for rice upgrade gingerale 5 $ 2 $ delivery charge 17.25 overcharged me almost 7 $, called me a liar, said I was wasting their time, and said they price match, which, as far as hoy hing, it’s 17.65, and quan’s is 18.05. Worst customer service, and I will be in there tomorrow to say what’s up. 25 $ for a combo plate and a soda. Just say that in your head.

I don’t want you guys to think that my two star review means that I hate this place. I really don’t. I love the Chief, and the Chief loves me(even if it’s only for my money). I would gladly encourage anyone at a late night Brighton bash to down some of what the Chief’s serving up. Here’s the thing about this place: It’s open. Honestly, if this pile of starch and processed grain *isn’t* open, just push through one more hour, buddy, and it’ll be time for breakfast. But yeah, seriously, it’s open. And yeah, they’ll deliver, dude. Once, my friend offered an extra two dollars for faster delivery, and they came to my house in under five minutes. Legit, no lie, five minutes. I mean, they didn’t really get our order right, but food is food. Hell, I’m not even sure that we ordered real items(which seems to be the case on a lot of my reviews, hmm). Honestly, most of the party will be happy with some rice and soy sauce, which is like 99% of what you’re getting anyway. If quality were really the make-or-break point, the Asian section of Trader Joe’s would’ve put this place out of business ages ago — but the Chief knows it’s about something more. The Chief knows it’s about staying power — like, the power to stay up later than anyone else. The power to be the last man standing. Sidenotes: the Chief does not carry Guy Poo. I don’t really know what Guy Poo is, but the Chief doesn’t really have it. Also, the delivery guy usually just screams«DOOR! DOOR!» into the phone. That’s how you know he’s at your house.

This place is owned by a cheap bastard who charged me extra for putting onions into my pepper steak and fried rice and has the nerve to tell me that people in the neighborhood dont generally like onions. Now i ask you what is Chinese food without onions??? What a DOUCHE. And the food is sub par at best. If you want solid take out try New Hong Kong in Oak Sq. or Asia Wok on Harvard Ave Allston. Jo Jo Tai Pei is the best Chinese«Restaurant» in the Brighton Allston area. Havent tried Shanghai Gate.

Sigh, more bad Chinese delivery in the books… Placed an order and it came early. Yay, the only good part! Not even the free wings they threw in, which I didn’t order, were enough to save this place. Shrimp chow mein has disgustingly fishy-tasting and none of the shrimps were cleaned. The broth was slimy and the vegetables were limp. Fried rice was hard as a rock, too, which tells me it’s been sitting for a while and they’re probably just recycling it. SIGH. I know it’s all the same thing at this point, these takeout joints, but I keep hoping one will surprise me with quality food for once! The delivery driver was rude, which is the same kind of attitude you get if you pick up instead of calling it in. Just not worth the effort at all.

Wow best Chinese food I have ever had. Believe me I’ve had quite a lot of Chinese food in my time and this is above the rest. I’ve loved this place for some time and when I signed on to Unilocal to check out the reviews I was shock at how negative they were. The reason I think this maybe the case is because people typical expect the same old commercialized Chinese food and the food that Dragon Chef makes is fresh and hand made. Besides the food the people are always friendly and the delivery time is quick. Oh and bump for 57A

This is the only thing good that happens after 2am. With at least half a dozen chinese restaurants all located within a ½ mile radius, Dragon Chef has found its niche. What separates this place from the rest is their late night take-out. Not the best and by no means the worst, Dragon Chef provides a safe and decent chinese food experience to satisfy their clientele’s(drunk college studens and Brighton Hooligans) late-night drunk munchies. While the food is a bit pricey for the value, the crab rangoons, lo mein, and fried dumplings are still decent. You don’t have to wait very long and the staff is pretty friendly. You haven’t truly experienced Brighton Center until you drunkenly stumble into this place after 2am and argue football picks with the cashier.

There’s not a whole lot to say about this place. It’s not my first choice for Chinese food but it was the closest and cheapest around. Their chicken wings are probably the best thing that they have, but that’s not saying a whole lot. I’d recommend coming here only for the appetizers on a late Friday night after leaving brighton beer garden. If you want crab rangoons, chicken fingers, boneless spareribs, etc… you could do much worse. If you are craving a more substantial meal you could also come here but don’t expect too much. They’re nice, they’re cheap, and they’re relatively quick. The place does look dirty when you walk in to pick up your food. It makes you not want to sit down while waiting. Also makes you wonder how clean your food will come out…

I have ordered delivery from this place three times. I have been inside the restaurant before, and it only consists of a waiting area because it’s designed as a take out place. Walking into the interior feels like walking into a 1970’s Chinese restaurant. I thought some of the dishes were a little overpriced, even though there is a $ 2 delivery fee. Here’s what I have ordered during those three times for delivery. Lobster Sauce with Pork Fried Rice. Gon Chao Ngau Ho — Literally means«Dried Fried Beef Chow Foon», this is one of the most famous dishes in Cantonese cuisine. I ordered the Beef Chow Foon on the Chow Foon section of the menu. Four Happiness — According to the menu, it is one of the«Chef’s Specials» and it consists of Chicken, Shrimp, Beef, and Pork Stir Fried with Vegetables. I did not really like the Lobster Sauce and the Pork Fried Rice. There was not much seafood within the sauce. I thought it was overpriced by approximately 2 – 3 dollars. So I will definitely not order that. As for the Four Happiness dish, I also thought it was overpriced by approximately 2 – 3 dollars. The portions were barely modest. The pork was a little dry and less tender. There was also a disproportionate amount of sauce, that made the dish look almost like a soup and made up most of the dish’s weight when I received it from the delivery man. I usually cook my own rice when I order an entrée, and I had to use up a lot of rice to soak up the sauce. This dish has been a disappointment for a Chef’s Special, and it has been a deciding factor for my low rating. The Gon Chau Ngau Ho was okay, and the portions were generous that I had enough for another meal, since I ordered a large size. However, I still think it is a little overpriced. Overall, the restaurant has been a disappointment in terms of quality and value. If I really have to order something from this place, I would order the Gon Chau Ngau Ho, also known as the Beef Chow Foon. The only other advantage that Dragon Chef has is that it is open until 2AM, so I have to give them a star for that. Dragon Chef makes Chang’s House in Brighton look like a premier Chinese restaurant and now it is one of the few Chinese restaurants in the Boston area that I will avoid unless they improve the food’s quality and value.
