Nothing fancy… and that’s fine with me. What you get is simple food that is well made and a laid-back ambiance. No complaints here!

Honestly the only two negative things I can say about this place is the service can be a little slow when they are busy and they don’t have a designated closing time. It seems like they kind of close when they feel like going home and I don’t mind as long as it is after midnight. Very inexpensive and live bands on Saturdays!

As much as it pains me to admit it as a bit of a foodie — every once in a while I just want simple, homey, comfort food. And boy does this place serve that in aces. Amazing meatloaf, perfect potato pancake, and cuke salad and I’m all set! Great down home atmosphere, no need to fuss, and simple nice good food at a superb price. P. s. You know you’ve become part of the in club at this place when the owner calls you«meatloaf» loved it!!!

Have lived ½ mile from this family restaurant for 2 years and never stopped in until today. This place will now be our go to place for a good, reasonably priced meal. Breakfast, lunch, and a dinner menu that compares with the best diners and all home cooked meals. We had a rack of ribs, a T-bone steak, flounder and cod. Meals came with homemade coleslaw, potato pancakes, sweet potato fries, baked potato and delicious cucumber salad. We will definitely go back ! BTW… there is a huge bar and TV’S.

This is the best place for family oriented people. The bar is owned and operated by one family they do the cooking and serving. The food is excellent and you can come as you are that is the nice thing about this place. I have had the ribs and meatloaf can’t brag enough about it. I try and recommend this place to wall I know give it a shot and you’ll be back again and again

I was shockingly pleased at my experience here. Upon a colleague’s recommendation, I arranged a gathering for work here. The manager was incredibly friendly and helpful. When I arrived it was not what I was expecting. This isn’t exactly my crowd, but I felt very welcomed and at home. The bartenders were very nice, and the food really excellent. Friendliness all around. I honestly wish I lived nearby as I would probably be here all the time for inexpensive food, drink, and a relaxing time.

After repeated visits, I’ll have to represent. I don’t have any issues with the environment, the people or the ambiance, but I can’t recommend anything on the menu that doesn’t come from the deep fryer. With the exception of the fresh cucumber salad that comes as a side, if it’s battered, it’s better at Top o’ the Hill.

Stopped here based on other reviews. Sure enough this place is a Cheers in NJ. Friendly, casual and fun. Food was typical bar but just fine and service was great. Really enjoyed the visit. Good luck finding the place at night. Google maps is spot on but you will still drive by the place without seeing it.

We decided to go here on a whim. For a Wednesday night this place was pretty quiet, but service was good and our food came out quickly. We both enjoyed our dinners very much. This is obviously a local place, but we felt welcomed. A good place to go fora drink and good conversation.

The Bridgewater area has changed much over the past few decades. Prior to the building of the Bridgewater Commons(circa 1986?), few outside the area had heard of it. Prior to the ‘70s, it was a real backwater town. Top of the Hill(however it’s spelled), is a very old house with a bar, an old tv, old staff, a bunch of old tables, and a gravel parking lot. But that’s just fine for me and others. Good, basic food, a real«neighborhood bar» feel, and live music on Saturday evenings that can be quite good(only caught it a couple of times over the years). My french toast the other day(3 full slices) and a coffee ran $ 8 with tip. Burgers and whatnot run $ 4 to $ 8, generally. Specials daily. Rustic ambiance, homey staff, affordable, basic fare — if that’s what you’re looking for, you came to the right place. If you want bling, conspicuous consumption, and such, go elsewhere. Oh, and they stayed open through Sandy, despite no power!

DH and I have been here a few times. There are always some locals at the bar and we have struck up some great conversations. The food is always great! Finally made it there for meatloaf night and wasn’t disappointed. We are also big fans of the crispy wings… they are hot but not sauced… the heat is in the batter. Love the homemade french fries… yum! The desserts are great too(I get mine to go because I am too full from my meal)! There is always a nice spread of assorted snacks for happy hour. The beer is always cold, the taps are clean, and Jim makes a great mixed drink! Like someone else said it is a great neighborhood bar. It is a great place to come and chill out and have a few laughs. We have also come here a couple of times for the bands on Saturday nights and the bands have been good.

Have to totally disagree with the previous review. Have had lunch and breakfast here. Both times the food was very good. Well described as comfort food. Not low fat certainly, but not greasy either. They have top quality ingredients. Their burgers are excellent. You can actually taste the beef, its definitely from a local butcher not a mass distributor. Had sausages with my eggs for breakfast and they were also top of the line fare. This is hands on food, well made, and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is definitely casual and absolutely leave any attitude at the door this is a family joint. My only issue is that I have not been able to figure out their breakfast schedule went early on Saturday around 930AM a couple times and door closed… but food is so good I will persist! If I could ask them for anything it would be to improve upon their coffee, other then that its right up my alley!

After not having been here for a while, I finally got back. I don’t think it as much a neighborhood bar as it is a total regular’s hangout. When my wife and I first got in, we sat at the bar to wait for everyone else we were having dinner with to arrive. We started out with a couple of draft beers(they have about 6 – 7 beers on tap — decent selection). As we were sitting at the bar, it seemed like everyone else who came in didn’t even have to give the bartender their order as he already knew it. That type of place — pretty cool as these places are few and far between nowadays. Once everyone had arrived, we grabbed a table to sit down and have some food. Our table started out with an order of the«homemade» fries and mozzarella sticks. The mozz sticks were pretty ordinary but they were decent. I wasn’t huge on the homemade fries but people at the table loved them so maybe it was just my taste. For my meal, I went with a Cowboy burger(bacon, cheddar, BBQ sauce) and sampled some waffle fries that were on the table. The burger was tasty, but it couldn’t have been more than a 5 – 6 oz burger(relatively thin and they don’t even ask how you want it cooked). However, the toppings made the burger taste great in a little bit of a messy sort of way. I wasn’t huge on the actual burger patty, but the finished product(with toppings) was pretty good. The food prices are incredibly cheap — I was pretty surprised. Waffle fries were decent. This place also gets a nice little bonus as they put out a spread for happy hour. It consisted of some veggies, chips, goldfish crackers, some pepperoni and cheese and crackers. All in all, this was an enjoyable meal in what almost felt like a bit of a hideout. I am sure that we will be returning.

We made our first visit to Top O’ Th’ Hill yesterday, which happened to be my birthday, for lunch. We had mozarella stick, brocc and cheese bites, burgers and waffle fries. Everything was quite tasty. Best mozz sticks we’ve had in a while and the marinara was super delicious. Burgers, fries and brocc bites were good, but not anything to write home about. Nice and greasy, just like good bar food should be. Places like this are hard to find. It’s very comfy and personable. Definitely a classic neighborhood place. And the prices are more than fair, I have to say. I plan to get the meatloaf special tonight, and at some point, am def going to try the fish and chips platter. Will update accordingly.

I agree with everything good said by anyone else. Its a perfect neighborhood bar, and I thought places like this didnt exist anymore. Jukebox, live music on Saturdays, and the feeling like you’ve walked into a good friends home after a long day, and they tell you to sit down and they’ll fix you something good to eat. The food is simple– but good. And they even serve breakfast??? Cheap. Filling. Comfort food. Im home.

Typical local hangout bar with a food menu. Service is quick, hardly ever crowded. Most of the food(fries and burgers especially) can be greasy and hard on the tummy, but it’s «old style» bar food, reasonably priced.

We are regulars at this neighborhood haunt. It is a great place for sandwiches any time of day or night. Dinners differ night to night, but do try the meatloaf if it isn’t sold out. Saturday nights there is live music if you like oldies and country/western music. No head banging here. Jimmy the bartender says he likes people to feel like they are at home here and we always do. Root for Rutgers and the Yankees and you will have made friends there for life.

The is a regulars bar. You see some characters in there… and everyone there is out to have a good time. Food is simple, yet very good… and like Pete said… go hungry and don’t everyone order fries. Heh. Oh yeah… don’t wear Red Sox apparel in there(or even mention those two words) if you want to get served. ;)

Talk about a neighborhood hang out. Ok, its not really in a neighborhood per se, but its the perfect«dunno where to go tonight.» restaurant. Its kinda dark and kinda old. There’s nothing overly special about it, except for their long history, good view(it IS the top of the hill after all), and good home-style cooking and service. Don’t get dressed up. Come hungry, and don’t look for healthy or gourmet food. Its bar food. It is family run and owned, and most of the family can be seen at any given time. Get to know Jimmy, the bartender /server /host /etc. There’s usually a small spread of snacks when you walk in — you never really know what will be there, but its always something to munch on. Sure, sometimes its odd looking grilled cheese pieces, and sometimes its simply Goldfish crackers. but its free, so who cares. Specials are on the board daily, and if you want the meatloaf you don’t want to show up too late. Its popular. And huge. Actually, most everything served here huge. Jimmy may laugh at you, in fact, if your table has 3 orders of fries coming, due to the amount of potatoes that will soon reach your table. If you can, save some room for dessert. There’s a mythical ‘fried brownie sundae’ listed but I’ve never seen it.
