This is one of the most popular and reliable places in the Hampton’s. Have stopped here many times when heading to East Hampton or Montauk. Always have a good experience.

I have been a diehard fan of Bobby Van’s for the better part of two decades. My recent visit proved to be very disappointing. The service was exemplary, as always. The hostess greeted us in a very friendly manner and whisked us to our table. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered the Burata as an appetizer which was delicious. My husband ordered a kale and Quinoa salad which he said was wonderful. The problem was the steak. You go to a steak house for great steak and this is where Bobby Van’s falls shorts, lately. The last three times I’ve eaten there have been a letdown. I ordered the Sirloin Steak with Gorgonzola sauce. I usually get the sauce on the side because it is very rich and they put too much on the steak. The steak was not hot and it looked like it had been sitting around for a while. I also wish they would change the menu sometimes, particularly at the start of the summer season. I find they don’t change the specials or menu items often. Another time I had brunch there recently, I ordered the Roast Beef Hash. In the past, it was out of this world. The last time I had it a few months ago, it was not hot and a bit too salty. It also looked like it had been sitting around. It’s too bad since Bobby Van’s has always been one of my favorite places. I hope they can get it together!

I just had the worst meal I ever had in a high end restaurant. It started with a Caesar salad which had wilted lettuce and tasteless dressing. Then came the so called prime rib. It was«Prime Rib Night.» We ordered medium rare and got lukewarm, well done meat which was tasteless. The cheesecake was delicious, Probably not made in house. I will never go to this restaurant again.

After long trip to the beach for the day a friend of mine and I wanted to have a late lunch before returning to Manhattan. Since many restaurants are closed before Memorial Day, we decided that Bobby Vans with its long established reputation would fit the bill. We ordered Spicy Calamari, Thai Style as an appetizer to share and a huge portion arrived with an intense aroma. It was delicious, not too spicy, deep-fried and awash in a sweet sauce. As much as we were delighted by the appetizer, we were disappointed with both of our entrees: the Lobster Roll and Linguine with Shellfish. My friend described the Lobster Roll as not better than what she has eaten at street fairs(including french fries that could not match McDonalds), and I could not say much about mussels and clams that were smothered in a buttery clam soup and almost stiff linguine. Although the prices seemed high, the service was excellent, the ambiance pleasant but I feel generous in having awarded the meal three stars.

Sunday evening price fix ribeye was delicious as was the fluke special. Mike, the bartender, was very attentive and friendly. Quiet mid winter night — thoroughly enjoyed our meal and Bobby Van’s…

I’m pleased with my experience here. Our waiter was pleasant and nice to my friend and I. I had a grilled calamari salad for appetizer and it was delicious. For main entrée I had whole fish(fluke) with garlic spinach, both very tasty, I asked the fish to be deboned, which they did but .not such a good job with that. For the bones I found in the fish and the quite pricey bill I give it 4*

Avoid offseason midweek. Flounder wasn’t fresh. Spinach very over cooked. String beans very undercooked. Wait staff never stopped back at table to ask how the meal was, only stopped to ask if we wished to purchase another glass of wine. Disappointing. A special salad of shaved Brussels sprouts, radicchio and a few other ingredients was very skimpy on the Brussels despite an $ 18 price tag. A favorite during high season, we were quite surprised and will not return until summer.

Each time I end up in the hamptons area, i end up at bobby Vans. I find it comical that Bobby van offered an outstanding experience once I decided to Unilocal reviews. In the past, I had 3 to 3.5 star experiences in the presence of b list celebrities. But its a new dawn, a new day. I ordered a boneless New york strip upon advice of Robert my waiter. I must say his recommendation was Ideal. My steak was perfect on the first try and each bite was satisfying. Honestly, the Main course was so ideal that I vaguely remember the drinks, sides or pre meal salad. On a great day on the east end, i walked away satisfied.

I ate here over a year ago and forgot to write a review. Unfortunately, I don’t remember what I had exactly, but I remember thinking that it was a lot more exceptional than some of the reviews on here. It took me some time to get seated in the slow later evening, and I had to hunt down an host. But once seated, I had a great experience. Just goes to show you that a warm greeting and attentiveness are what is memorable. Sometimes even great food isn’t. The patio here is definitely a great place for a cocktail and conversation.

Since the traffic was a bit slow leaving the Hampton’s, we decided to stop by Bobby Van’s Steakhouse. For drinks, I ordered an Arnold Palmer while my parents tried the Montauk Brewing Company’s Summer Pale Ale. Bread basket is served upon request. The food and service was alright. They had a chalkboard with their specials but it wasn’t very legible(need to use brighter colors or something. The specials includes the following: Soups: Lobster Bisque, Chicken Vegetable, or Asparagus Purée Appetizers: Tuna Tartare or Grilled Vegetable Torte Salads: Crab Avocado Bacon Salad Entrees: Filet Mignon on Fajita; Blackened Swordfish Wrap; Miso Salmon; Meatloaf; or Egg Whites Frittata For lunch, we ordered a Caesar Salad with Chicken, Linguini with Shellfish, and Miso Salmon. The Caesar Salad consisted of romaine lettuce and croutons tossed in a creamy and cheesy Caesar dressing, topped with a grilled but tasteless chicken breast and garnished with shaved parmesan. The romaine lettuce wasn’t very fresh — a blend of dark greens and brown romaine lettuce. The Linguini with Shellfish consisted of linguini topped with fresh chopped clams, clams, mussels, fresh tomato, and parsley in a buttery and garlicky white wine sauce. We liked how this entrée wasn’t heavy in seasoning. My favorite entrée was the Miso Salmon, which consisted of a grilled salmon brushed with miso sauce served over a bed of quinoa, diced tomato, chopped shiitake mushrooms, and chopped string beans. It was the most interesting(in a good way) and tasty entrée we ordered today!

Not bad, but a definite disappointment. For a place that’s so expensive and that has been out here for so many years, the food was just okay. Everything was bland with very little seasoning and the menu and specials were just boring. I had a crab cake with mustard remoulade as my appetizer. I enjoyed it, but I prefer a nice jumbo lump crab cake rather than a shredded crab/bread crumb puck. My entrée was the petit filet which was a good size and was cooked to the medium rare I wanted, but didn’t have any seasoning. My husband’s porterhouse was seasoned extremely well though and was delicious. The thin crispy French fries we got on the side were also really great. Dessert was a waste of time. The flourless chocolate cake was either overcooked or not baked properly because it was pasty and chunky and just not good at all. Though it wasn’t necessarily the restaurant’s fault, the worst part of the meal is that we had about 4 big flies bothering us all through our entrees. We spent a large chunk of time swatting them away from our plates and the waitress just said it couldn’t be helped since the restaurant was open to the outside. I didn’t have a bad experience and I didn’t hate the food, but at $ 100 a person, it wasn’t worth it.

I like their bar, but I don’t love the snootiness that comes with the place. The food is only okay. Your saving grace is your amazing servers and bus staff.

What is with all the restaurants closing? World Pie is temp closed and a bunch of places in Sag Harbor. Times… they are a changin’. Thankfully, Bobby Van’s a staple establishment that aims to please and doesn’t disappoint. Our server was high-spirited and knowledgable about the specials and existing menu. Had the carrot & ginger soup special and split the lobster mac & cheese and full-size filet. Everything came out coursed beautifully and were prepared beautifully. Not overly expensive and their service was accommodating without being claustrophobic. Plenty of options for vegetarians, so if you’re out East, you should give it a shot.

Why serve tuna if it was cooked YESTERDAY!!! We ordered the«specials» only to find out the tuna served as an appetizer was pre-cooked yesterday, then only served re-heated and tasted like cardboard/pork. What is up with the NYC quality you expect from this restaurant. Never again. The bartender was great, nice and very apologetic but it could not make up for the lack of proper food, will keep you posted if I end up in the hospital tonight …

Okay for the price I want more quality. I enjoy a good meal and don’t mind paying for it. Been disappointed in past but last two visits and take out much better. I enjoyed the Rockefeller oysters and mussels with white wine sauce. Filet mignonette is okay rather hit Pierre’s for beef much better. Menu needs to be refreshed been the same for years.

Delicious meal. Had the special. Salmon in miso sauce with quinoa kale and tomato. It’s was awesome. Mouth watering. Shared a few appetizers including Kobe beef sliders(3) and ahi tuna. Cooked perfectly. The ambiance is nice. A bit loud. Service was very good. I’d eat here again.

I wish I could give BV’s 5 star– but it wasn’t warranted. It started with the hostess who let me stand awkwardly alone for about 10 seconds while she wrapped up her texting session. This wasn’t a clueless teenaged hostess, this was a grown woman with her head buried in her phone. Your job us to greet people. Put the phone away. After a drink at the bar we sat, service was prompt. A slight attitude when requested cheese on side, but she recovered. So we went with a classic Caesar salad and the porterhouse for two. The crisp, whole leaves of romaine tossed in a tangy, salty dressing didn’t appear. Instead it was over chopped, disproportionately dressed, and some edges were actually browning. The porterhouse for 2 was delicious. Beautiful char on the outside, medium rare on the inside. Plenty of jus to spoon over the meat. Mayyybe a pinch of salt. Had a couple if cappuccinos and left pretty happy– the steak saved the day– lucky for the hostess.
