We visited downtown Brenham and thought we would try this place for lunch. I was disappointed. The cheeseburger tasted ok but it tasted like something you could get at a ballpark. I have my doubts that it was actually made there. My husband’s beef fajita quesadilla was ordinary, which is surprising, given they are supposed to be known for their fajitas. Alot of cheese and very little meat. The guacamole tasted like mashed avocado. That’s it, just mashed avocado — no flavor.

Breakfast here was not bad, but not outstanding. The waffle had a good texture and nice touch of vanilla flavor; the fruit was just a small plastic sauce cup of grapes & melon. Service was polite but inconsistent.

Very Good! We were driving back to Austin from a trip to Houston and decided to stop for dinner. I found Brenham Grill on my navigation system and decided to try it. Well, we are glad we stopped here. My son and I both ordered the Lasagna and it tasted Home Made! They also brought fresh baked bread and it was amazing!!! The service was also very good! I highly recommend coming here!

This was part of a deal with Ant Street Inn and only reflects breakfast Positives –all bfast 8.95 or less — part of hotel package — nice waitstaff — comfy décor Areas of improvement — bfast potatoes were? Boiled and soft — eggs Benedict were swimming in sauce — fruit was a few grapes and a slice of orange — coffee was bland Honestly we were hungry and we ate but we wouldn’t recommend to eat breakfast there.

We were driving through brenham and my wife picked out this café. Nice atmosphere. Interesting décor. The service was good and the food arrived promptly even being a busy Friday night. It’s located in a historic building which now houses an Inn and the café. Wife had the fajita salad and was happy. I had the chicken fried steak. Probably should have ordered the chicken, since the meat was a bit more chewy than I would like. It was still good, just a tad below what I would expect. Be sure to visit the men’s restroom in the hotel. Worth a stop ;-). If we drive back through we will probably visit again.

Food was ok, the big disappointment was the wait staff! Not sure which person was assigned our table, menus literally tossed across the table to us, and as my friend who was eating there with me said, «looks like the wait staff hates their job and each other»!! Our lunch did not resemble the quality of food in previous reviews pics, lacked presentation. May try again and hopefully a better experience the next time, with a different staff!

This was our first visit to Brenham and after checking out the Unilocal recommendations we chose the Grill for our post-Uptown Swirl dinner. I ordered the Texas Cobb Salad and my lovely wife had the eggplant parmesan. The service was prompt, although a little confusing as we had three servers, but each took great care of us. The salad was fresh and included grilled chicken. Everything in the salad was crisp, no hint of leftovers or day old veggies. My wife devoured her dinner, so I can only guess it was as delicious as it looked. There is limited seating, but the turnover was quick, staff doesn’t seem to encourage folks to say and relax.

Charming restaurant in downtown Brenham. I had the soup and sandwich for lunch; half of a chicken salad on wheat and a cup of tortilla soup; came with a cup of fruit as well, Soup was good, as was the sandwich. The fruit was straight out of a can. Overall, not a bad place to stop for lunch.

The service was friendly, the food delicious, and the atmosphere charming. We definitely enjoyed our meal and would come back. The only real big drawback was that there a few bones at the very tip of my fried catfish fillet. Other than that, this place is worth checking out!

We were going though Brenham and it was lunch time so we picked a place on our Nuvi navigator. We decided on the Capital Grill. But, it took us to the Brenham Grill instead. Oh well, we’re here now and I’m hungry. Later the owner explained he bought it and changed the name several years ago. He bemoaned the fact that all kinds of things still list it as the Capital Grill. You enter through the Ant Street Inn, a lovely small boutique hotel(see picture showing stairs). I liked the ambiance and wish I’d liked the meal as much. We ordered the meatloaf. Meatloaf can be made several ways and I’m really picky about the way I like it. Theirs wasn’t that way. For what it’s worth, the potato salad and fries were good. There were a collection of what appeared to be a group of Brenham old timers there, so I’m reluctant to rate this place average based on only one dish that I figure others would like. If you average the nice atmosphere and pleasant service with an okay but not-my-cup-of-meatloaf. I guess it comes to about four stars.

Stopped driving through town. Good find! Cobb Salad was very good with fresh avocados. Hamburger was simply delicious! Chicken Fetticini was spot on. We’ll stop again for sure!

Chockful of atmosphere. Service was horrible. We waited a long time to get our order and a longer time to get the food. Folks came in after us got served first. Waiter never checked on us or he would have known my young daughter s food was too spicy to eat. Both she and my husband ordered tortilla soup. Neither ate it. We were offered 2 rolls for 6 people. They were fresh and tasty but no more were forthcoming. We won’t be back. Not Child friendly. By the By — don’t take young boys into the bathroom unless you want an anatomy lesson. We stopped here for lunch on a Monday one the way to our Blue Bell Ice Cream factory tour. Atmosphere: The restaurant, located inside an(former?) inn in a charming area of Brenham was pretty full. The young host got a table together quickly, however, and we were seated within minutes. The décor was old school — wooden fixtures and glass-covered tables, etc. Food: The menu is eclectic: American salads and sandwiches, Italian entrees and Mexican favorites. As previous experience has shown, it’s hard to authentically create one ethnic food well, so combining three seemed a bit ambitious. I had a burger, which was quite good, with steak fries. The hubs had chicken quesadillas which were fine. Our daughter had fried okra, which was delicious. Overall, the food was good, save for the chips(too greasy, but at least warm and seemed homemade?) and salsa(tasted more like marinara sauce than salsa). Service: The service was pokey, but the staff was pleasant. There is no kid menu, or kid-friendly options(because anything ‘kid-friendly’ would be expensive and large for a child). The place is fine. I’ve had better, which is why I picked two-stars. I wouldn’t necessarily bee-line back if I was in the area.

We stopped by Brenham on a weekend trip to a couple of wineries in the area and decided to stop by Brenham’s Grill for lunch. Décor was wonderful, it made you feel like you were back in the old days, especially when you looked out the window and saw an old school firetruck in the middle of street(they were having a fundraiser for diabetes)… Everything was great about the place besides the food(but I’m VERY picky)… We started off with an order of calamari(tasted either overcooked, frozen or probably both) and it came out hard and crunchy with no calamari taste whatsoever(all I tasted was batter). I ordered the swiss and mushroom burger with fries which was pretty good but a little bland for my taste… Everyone else seemed like they their meal and the place provided the perfect back drop for what we were expecting in BRENHAM, TEXAS!

Brenham Grill is in a very old historic hotel in the downtown district. The atmosphere and the food are worth leaving the interstate and searching out this restaurant. The food was fresh, hot, satisfying and delicious.

The Brenham Grill is located inside the Ant Street Inn. Go into the hotel and bear right from the lobby. Dad and I got the 12 oz steak. Yummy. but had to ask for steak sauce for dad, and then had to go track it down after about eight minutes. Mashed potatoes and cream gravy yummy. Salad, decent but had to ask for my dad’s missing salad. Mom’s pasta she said was quite good. Tortilla soup was good. Basically, this is a family owned place with great food but on a busy Saturday night one of the owners was trying to wait on all the tables himself. They need to hire a server for Saturday night so they’re not as pressured and can remember all the details. I was content and satisified. We would eat there again. I saw a few people get the fajitas and they looked great. Bonus for the grand huge stained glass light fixture that illuminates the center of the room. Its very Art Deco in feel inside in a cool way.

It was good overall. however… Very cold inside. No bread or chips offered(I guess you must ask for it). Chicken Sandwich was very good with pickles on it(too much mayo tho) The crowning item was the char-grill old timer burger(great)

Nothing gold can stay … So, I’d been talking up this restaurant to my husband for a long time. This Monday, we finally had the chance to head to Brenham and eat there. I was surprised that it is now called the Brenham Grill instead of Capital Grill. It was still good, just not as awesome as it was on my last visit. This time I ordered the spaghetti lunch special with meatball added. Since I’d liked the tortilla soup so much the last time, I ordered a cup of it. My husband ordered a club sandwich with a side of potato salad. My meal came with a salad but I let my husband eat it since I don’t like salad and had ordered the soup. He liked the salad, it seemed to have a good variety of fresh ingredients. My soup was still the best thing that we ordered … it had good chicken, good broth, large amounts of avocado and cheese, etc. It was just about the perfect tortilla soup. I should’ve just had a bowl of that and called it a day. We were given a little bit of herbed bread(I dunno, like a circle about 4 inches in diameter) with our soup and salad. It was very good, but no more was offered when we finished it. We both ordered tea and water, and weren’t offered straws and then were only given two straws when we asked for straws, so had to stop an employee again and ask for two more. My spaghetti lunch special was just not all that impressive. I was given a big bowl of pasta with a tiny bit of sauce in the middle and one large meatball. I cut the meatball up into smaller pieces and tried my best to spread the small amount of sauce throughout the bowl. It all tasted pretty bland to me so I ended up requesting paremesan cheese and adding salt as well. Don’t think I’ve ever salted a pasta dish at a restaurant. However, my husband really enjoyed the pasta sauce … he finished my food after I got full. He grew up in another state in an area with a heavy population of Italian folks and Italian restaurants, so maybe that means that it was actually authentic and I’m just more in tune with americanized Italian food. So, as the kids say, YMMV. He liked his club sandwich well enough. When I tasted it I thought it was fairly unremarkable, though obvious that the lunchmeat used wasn’t of especially good quality. If I’d gotten it I probably would’ve done just fine as long as I drowned it in mayo. He got a huge portion of potato salad, and said it was pretty good. This sounds like a 3-or-less-star review probably, but the soup is so good that I’m leaving it at 4 stars(I also feel like I/we probably just blundered into ordering the wrong things on the extensive menu … perhaps Mexican dishes or fried chicken are one’s best bets). But if my husband and I ever end up back in Brenham, we’ll probably give another charming downtown establishment a try rather than going to Brenham Grill.

Beautiful old building in what seems to me to be the center of Brenham. The food was good, atmosphere was VERY cool and totally worth the brief forage into town to avoid the chains. It’s been a while since mom and I stopped-by on the way from Houston to Austin so I don’t remember exactly what she had, but my nachos were good.
