Steak ‘n Shake

One star is generous… went through the drive thru, waited 15 minutes to place the order, girl at the window confrontationally asked us «who was just honking!?» (was the car behind us. Felt uncomfortable about being confronted, ignored it) waited another 10 for food which was brought out to the car while parked in a space (no big, they’re busy. Just a small inconvenience). While the server was handing the bag through the window, it drips unidentified liquid onto us. I give the bag back, the server goes «oh, probably just water from the counter» and continues to try to push it back through the window. Nope, it’s cheese sauce, broken in the bag, all over everything. After refusing to take it, server leaves with the bag and returns promising that the food has been rewrapped. We open it, cheese sauce everywhere. We go inside to have it remade. It comes back, the food is wrong. We gave up. Found a straw in the glovebox since none were provided… Nutella milkshake is melted strawberry. Make of this what you will.

Took about 10 minutes just to get a table even though there was no one there. But a guy named Tally I think who remembered our order in his head and we got our food quickly. So I thing my family and I will go back once in a while.

Slow service.
Dirty tables that they «cleaned» in front of us and still were dirty with crumbs.
Empty ketchup bottles on tables.
Order was wrong (and several around us were also wrong from what we could hear).
Were not given straws, silverware, or napkins until we requested them and never did receive placemats.
The plus, the waitress was friendly.
I would skip this place and head to McDonald’s next door.

I am not sure why the reviews have been so bad. I came in to get a Togo order. They were prompt and polite. The burgers are always juicy and delicious.

Absoloutly never going back to this location again! My wife and I don’t eat much fast food, but we do like Steak and Shake. We went to the Causeway Blvd location in Brandon yesterday, and decided to pull into the drive thru. We were the last of five cars in line, and ended up waiting 35 minutes to get our food. (We saw four other vehicles pull into the drive thru and leave because the line was so slow.)When we finally did get it, The order was missing a sandwich and the girl at the window copped a HUGE attitude with us for pointing it out to her. She even implied we were not telling the truth about it. We ended up waiting another five minutes for her to get our missing sandwich. Completely unacceptable in our opinion, and we will never be back!!! PS. Corporate was also contacted.

I am shocked management could allow this restaurant to operate as dirty as it is. We walked in about 8 am last Sunday and they were not busy. I immediately noticed the dirty greasy floors with ground up candy from the machines. We sat on the bar stools knowing their not known for service. We were looking for a quick breakfast. The counter top was absolutely gross. Our server quickly cleaned it off but it needed a deeper clean. Maybe penicillin or bleach. We ordered our food, I ordered a skillet. But wished I didn’t sit with a front row seat to a nasty cooking area. Their were trays of par cooked hash Browns. Really, you can’t cook them fresh. Can’t be that hard. The floor was filthy. Pancake batter everywhere. So I received my skillet and realized why the prices are so cheap. There is an old saying «The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten». I am permanently cured from going to Steak and Shake.

Well you certainly get what you pay for at 11 pm at night at a ²⁴⁄₇ Steak ‘n Shake.
You get horrible service, long waits even as the only car in line, attitude at the drive thru window, and sub par effort seen in the food and milk shakes ordered. Pretty sure we got ¾ of cup filled milk shake, got the wrong drink twice, and got attitude every time we mentioned these errors in their service. And the food was consumable but nothing near enjoyable.
They get 1 star, because they served edible food at a time no other restaurant was available after an enjoyable night at the Lightning game.
Would service and product be any better at 2pm? Minimally would be my guess. Is it a step above McDonald’s? Depends on what effort the staff feels like putting into it. Have I had good experiences at Steak ‘n Shake? Yes. Have I had more sub par experiences then good? Yes. Have I ever had a good experience at this particular Steak ‘n Shake? No.
After that QnA hopefully you see my suggestion as avoid if possible, but in certain circumstances it will fulfill the necessity of filling your stomach at an inconvenient time.

We have been sitting for over 45 minutes and we have not been served. When I went to the bathroom there was a rat in the corner it is so disgusting. Also the waitress called me a bitchh when I did not tip. Terrible service don’t waste you time just go to chick fil a.

Customer service is lacking. It’s ok to say hello or good morning. I was stared at the whole time. Not a friendly environment.

40 minute wait before anyone came to take our order. Tons of ridiculous excuses, people who came after us got food before us. Horrible service, one employee said they hated working here. Believe me it shows! Burgers cover only half the bread, portions undersized. Asked to speak to the manager and 20 minutes later one of the wait staff came over and said the manager is comping your meal. The manager never came out to apologize. Total fail, I wish there was something less than 1 star.

Waitress and food wasn’t bad, however the smelly homeless guy sleeping in the booth and the fact that the men’s bathroom was disgusting, will probably keep me from going back to this location. Was there about 45 minutes, place was not busy and tables weren’t cleaned and the whole place was just plain dirty!

If my wife didn’t like this place. I’d never come here. The service is so damn poor and slow. ALWAYS. Food is sub-​par at best. Greasy as hell. Good news is it’s cheap. I guess you get what you pay for.

They’re open 24 hours and if you’re looking for quality food at 2am in a place with checkered tile floors, you’re an idiot.
For what it is, Steak n Shake does it right. Just keep your expectations checked. It’s greasy but still tasty food. Buy it, eat it, regret it in a few hours — but love that chow time, brah.

Delicious food by lousy service in both the drive thru and dining inside. Could not get drink refills or even order a milkshake to go after our meal… very aggravating. Step up your service and you’d double your tips dumb people!

Great burgers, I have an egg allergy so sometimes they have screwed up my order by adding mayonnaise even when I tell them not to, however they always fix it and make me a new one. Wisconsin buttery is the best, too buttery .love it. Always open so I have somewhere to go when I work late.

Always love this store, but disappointed in the caramel apple.
Was good but was in a small size cup, not like the others, I don’t
think it should cost the same.
The manager (at least I think that’s what he was) was very friendly
and had great customer service skills. Wish I got his name.

Dont come here hungry at night because this is a seriously under staffed location at night
I couldnt get any service at the drive thru so i went inside to find the same situation. The folks inside seem really to be here chillin not eatin. Avoid this location if you want to enjoy your meal. The mgmt seems clearly uninterested in the service and even the patrons. Sad situation.

Brutally awful service. Just got back from a late night trip.
Get to the drive thru speaker… 60 seconds go by. Finally a greeting. I ask how much a burger is without the fries? Another 30 seconds of silence. Me: «Hello?» Employee: «3.29.» So I just get the $ 3.99 combo. More silence. FInally a total. I drive up, 3^rd in line.
20 minutes go by. I, along with the cars in front of and behind me finally just leave frustrated.
2^nd star is only because I like S&S… but this location is a joke.

I like Stake & Shake when I really have no other place I want to go.
Its cheap!
Its good!
Its fast!
But when things like that mix, you are meant to pay somehow! And thats when quality hits in!
Let me explain!
The food is sometimes way too greasy! I have gotten sick twice already from going there. At least half of the times I’ve been there they had always ran out of something and I have to change my plate! That really bothers me !!
And the service. Ay ay ay! I have never met a happy server there. Let me rephrase that… I have never had a happy server serve ME there. Most of them seem so rude and unhappy, as if it is your fault they work there.
Im sorry you do, but its not my fault. I mean thats not gonna stop the fact that Im going to continue to go there, but I wish I could see happy faces !!

Want a great meal, served hot & fresh? Then avoid this place. Just spent 30 minutes as their only customers only to see our food sitting in the window getting cold. Then when our waitress went to bring it to us she realized that one of the burgers had been made wrong so she had the cook ‘fix’ it. When the food got to our table, one if the burgers had the wrong toppings and the fries on both plates were now room temperature. We decided to go eat somewhere else but on our way out we sopke to the manager who had just started her shift. Her response? «I just got here, what do you want ME to do?» Oh sure, she offered to make the entire order over herself but we were already late for work & school. Sad that 5 employees can’t get 2 orders correct when there are only 2 customers in the restaurant.
No stars for this review, no love for Steak n’ Shake. Never going back.
