The shoulder is good as long as it’s dipped. Pulled pork is pretty good as well. The sides tend to be bland.

Eek, I hate giving this place three stars because 1) it smells amazing outside and 2) the bbq was really good. It was a bit dry, but plenty smoky and a good shot of their tangy bbq sauce fixed the dryness real quick. I have to take off points because, despite their 4-star bbq, their sides were really lacking. I appreciate the vinegar slaw, since most places only give you mayo slaw as a side. The cabbage was nice and crunchy still and the vinegar was not too tart, not too sweet. I missed the celery seeds I’m used to in a vinegar slaw, but I survived. Their mashed potatoes were delicious too. Definitely get those if you’re getting sides. But their baked beans were just meh and had too much liquid. It was especially surprising because one would assume their beans would be just as flavorful as their sauce. Maybe they’re not made in-house? It would make sense, considering their pies were the freezer kind and not homemade. The biggest disappointment was the potato salad, which was extremely sweet. It was almost like a dessert in and of itself. The interior was fine and exactly what you’d expect for a small bbq joint. I do suggest coming here and getting a sandwich with vinegar slaw and mashed potatoes as your sides. You will not be unhappy with your meal and you’ll hardly feel the hit on your wallet. But a bbq joint has to have both good meat AND good sides in order to get high marks in my book and Smokey Pig was just too hit-and-miss for my taste.

Decent enough hole in the wall BBQ. Incredibly cheap based on the prices I have paid for BBQ… two of us were about $ 20. Food was very tasty after a long day of work. Pulled pork was tasty. My partner had the pork shoulder and they must have brought out about 2 pounds of it. Sides were good… loved the vinegar slaw. Pecan pie was great. Man was I stuffed. I also get the impression this restaurant is a family affair and the entrepreneurial spirit flows freely here. There are t-shirts and other items for sale, we were asked if we wanted a whole pecan pie to go. Hell, I probably could have bought the soda machine if I asked. This is all good with me mind you… they seemed like very nice southern KY residents who are just making a living. Lynyrd Skynyrd would play well here. Nice place and will seek out again when in the area.

Coming north on I65 this evening and looking for some BBQ. This place is really what you are looking for in your BBQ joint: a bit«rustic,» mostly local traffic(telling you those who have been there before keep coming back), the smoker going right outside cooking for tomorrow, and super friendly folks who enjoy serving up tasty southern food with a side of southern hospitality.

I visited Smokey Pig while on a road trip to NOLA. It’s a smaller, quaint place off the expressway. The staff was friendly and welcoming, I got my food quickly, and the food was great! I had the rib plate with sides of mac n cheese and potato salad. Good sized portions too. I wish Smokey Pig was a little closer to home for me!

Being from California, this is exactly how I pictured a BBQ joint in the south would be. Old brick building, with the smells of hickory wafting thru the air outside. You could smell the Q a block away driving towards the building. Inside, just friendly staff and hungry patrons eating their Q from styrofoam boxes and cups filled with sweet tea and soda. Menu is straight forward– ribs, chicken, shredded pork and thin pork shoulder chops. Your choice of how its served– with dry rub, dipped in mild or hot vinegar based sauces, and you also get 2 sides with your meal, featuring south staples– Mac and cheese, mayo slaw, vinegar slaw, beans or mashed potatoes. This time I had the house speciality, the thin pork shoulder chop, Mac and cheese and vinegar slaw, dipped hot. It was quite tasty, tho my local companions remarked the meat was a bit drier than normal. Never seen this on a menu before, but I liked it quite a lot. The sides were also spot on. Will definitely try and head back before I leave to try the ribs– they looked really good, but a bit messy for a work lunch.

I ate here two years ago while driving to Tenn. I sought it out again because it was so tasty. The ham shoulder is unique and the pulled park is tender. Their sauces are very good. Always a line because you want to come back!

With the reviews this place has I am not sure how! They close at 7pm. The shoulder plate ever one raved about was nothing more than very very thin pork steaks. Foods did not meet me expectations however the restaurant was very clean.

WOW, the best bbq in the country, beats out memphis and St Louis by far. The pulled pork and shoulder are incredible, just wish I had more room to try more. Did get to try 4 of their many sauces, again incredible. The staff just make it better. Thanks guys for making it unforgettable.

My husband had ribs with sides of Mac and cheese and baked beans. He enjoyed his ribs mostly. I, on the other hand, had a chicken plate. I thought it would be covered in some kind of bbq sauce; but I was thoroughly disappointed. It had a small bit of hot sauce on it, and the chicken was disgusting… as my husband said(It tastes like something we would give to our military soldiers). So I was thoroughly disappointed. I did have the mashed potatoes tho and they were pretty good. And a bag of Lays chips. Can’t screw that up too much. The sweet tea was good too. If you want a refill on your drinks, get the regular size; because they won’t refill the large(unusual but I see their point.) Would we go back? Probably not. I’m a Texas girl and maybe my taste buds are just a little bit different. But we are on a small weekend vacation and wanted to try something new. :)

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had some bad barbecue, but this place is way past horrible. The mac and cheese comes out of a kraft box, no flavor at all, kraft mac and cheese. The potatoe salad is store bought, not homemade. The baked beans are not good, but probably the best thing there. We wanted some ribs, but of course the were out, and out of chicken. Don’t get me wrong, but you’re a barbecue restaurant, and they ran out of barbecue ribs and chicken. So we decided to get the shredded pork, and it tasted like water, no flavor at all. … I read all of the reviews on Unilocal, and thought it was the place to eat at, but whoever gave them 5 stars doesn’t know anything about real barbecue, I’m sorry yall have know taste buds. …This food had no flavor at all, garbage. … The service is terrible and there were more flies than people in this place. You can try it if you like, but trust me, you’ll be very disappointed, unless you like bland food. If I could give it a half of star, I would.

For our final vacation dinner in Kentucky, we went to Smokey Pig Bar-B-Q. Being supper time, there was a line to order, but that was ok as it gave us more time to peruse the menu. Once we reached the counter, the friendly staff patiently answered all of our questions. Being a hungry family, we ordered a wide selection of pulled pork, chicken, and dogs, with baked beans, mayo slaw, mac & cheese, and red skin mashed tater sides, as well as five different pieces of pie for dessert. We then proceeded to a table to wait for our food. The restaurant was decorated in that nearly-divey, eclectic fashion which tells you that you are about to have some good barbeque! Once our food arrived, we were not disappointed, as everyone in our party universally agreed that all of the mains and sides we ordered were very good. We also really liked how the kitchen staff came out to ask if we wanted any ‘sweet barbeque’ or ‘hot barbeque’ sauce to go with our meals(naturally we took both!). For very good barbeque at a reasonable price and friendly staff, I rate Smokey Pig Bar-B-Q as being Very Good, and would definitely return any time I am in the area!

Stopped in after the Corvette Museum… loved it! Best pulled pork I’ve had in a while. Sides were delicious. I had the vinegar cole slaw which I’ve never had and thoroughly enjoyed it! Don’t know if I’ll be coming back this way again but if I do I’ll stop by and have another plate. Thanks guys!

Driving through Kentucky for the first time, I wanted to find a good place to sample bbq. This place was recommended highly by reviewers on my google maps app. I admit to being pretty clueless about ordering but they gave me exactly what I asked for. It was a cultural experience. :) I tried a pork shoulder plate — seemed like what you would get if you combined bacon with a porkchop — and got smashed redskin potatoes and baked beans for the two sides. The food was fantastic and I sat in the porch room overlooking the river. I couldn’t leave without trying their pulled pork sandwich, which was great but not much different from good ones I’ve had elsewhere. A great hole in the wall bbq joint that is worth getting off the highway for. The real thing.

I don’t give many 5 stars but this dive bbq earned it. You walk in and you see a. long line but don’t loose all hope they are quick and efficient and the line moves right along, I order the large pulled pork with a side of red skin mash and baked beans. It was a generous portions of food the mash was good not to thick or creamy just the right amount with a great texture the bake beans instantly reminded me of my grandma and Sunday dinners the main thing was the pulled pork it was about a ½ pound of juicy tender pulled pork over flowing the bun. It comes plain you can add your own bbq sauce that is a nice homemade thick and sweet sauce or ask for the house hot sauce I also got a slice of pecan pie that I can not describe you just have to get it this piece is a must stop I will next time I am driving thru from Cleveland

This is a very enjoyable barbecue location. Great view of the river and that awesome smoked meat flavor. This place is a bit on the old-school side but I think and hope it’s something that people enjoy from time to time. Part of old-school his things are done right. Lots of attention to detail and only very good cuts of meat. Caution you may get messy eating here but they have bathrooms to clean up. Excellent value.

Was in Kentucky for one day and it happened to be in Bowling Green. This place seemed like super authentic and rich Southern BBQ and it did not disappoint! I had the pulled pork sandwich with mac n cheese & potatoes. All sooo good! The pulled pork was mouth-watering, every bite was magical. The interior is very casual and simple and service is friendly.
