If you’re looking for a summer camp for your child that has horseback riding, a swimming pool, and fancy accommodations, Camp Kirby is not for you. But if your kid is interested in the outdoors, having fun, making good friends, eating good camp food, and roughing it, Camp Kirby is an excellent choice. Is accredited, and the camp counselors are usually always university students from nearby Western Washington University in Bellingham. My son started camp here as an 8 year old. He’s now in high school and will do his first year of CIT training this summer(2010). He loves it and has never missed a year. They have treehouses, cabins, and teepees for accommodations. The food has been consistently good. And the counselors they hire are great and full of personality. You do not need to buy fancy duds for camp here. Pack your regular old clothes, some PJs, some water shoes, a swimsuit, towels, a sleeping bag and pillow, and you’re good to go. They have an on-site nurse, and they’re very good about checking everyone for sickness and lice the first day. On pickup day you can purchase camp photos at the camp store. Camp Kirby guarantees a kid lots of wonderful camp memories.
