Loved everything about this place. I visited while traveling from Austin, and it reminded me of one of my favorite haunts. For the amount of food you get, the portions are very generous. The americano I ordered fit the bill, and the huevos rancheros were excellent but more than I could get through. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. If I lived here, they’d see a lot more of me, which they may or may not be thrilled about.

I love the Walnut Café, but just went there alone, was seated at a table on the patio outside and then ignored by the servers. They did, however, take the order of people who came after me and who had a Unilocaling dog they allowed on their patio, against their no-dogs-on-patio rule. I had left my dog at home for that very reason. I got up and left and went to Dot’s Diner, where they were much more attentive and I got waited on and got my order quickly.

I’ve been going here regularly since it opened. Today was my first disappointment. The corn chips were stale, the dill pickle was missing and its high time this place offers free wi fi. I’ll go back but they have room for improvement.

It took me a bit to figure out why this place shows up as #2 when you search for vegan breakfast restaurants in Boulder when A) they don’t have a single vegan entrée on the menu and B) the few entrees that can be «made vegan» by removing cheese or other ingredients are greasy and unsatisfying. The reason it shows up is because all the serious vegan restaurants in Boulder are only open for lunch and dinner. Save your intestines and find something at Whole Foods for breakfast. For omnivores, though, this place has all the classic American breakfast food entrees for you to enjoy.

It was an ok restaurant. Tried it based on Unilocal reviews. Slow service although it wasn’t busy as it was 2pm on a Sunday afternoon. Very few side options as all the sandwiches were served with only chips. The main entrees were good, however, nothing spectacular, seemed overpriced for a café. I had an omelet with only ham & cheese with a side of breakfast potatoes(that were served cold although they obviously had been warm at some time) and it was around $ 9.

Well. I can’t say how the food was, because we left after sitting for 25 minutes. Waiters walked by and we attempted to get someone’s attention. But, no one asked us how we were until we left. Too little too late.

Love the vibe of this place. The food was great! They have a variety of vegetarian and vegan options and portions are hearty. The hot chocolate was good too! Low priced and wholesome!

The weather sort of flipped out plans a little bit so instead of eating in the freezing rain at the farmer’s market we opted for some warmth. There were a number of good options for a late breakfast but ultimately we settled on this one. From the second we walked in, the staff was super friendly. It didn’t take very long to get seated although it seemed like we’d wait forever. We went for the special — chorizo scramble. It was definitely a great choice — loved the dish, the guac, the potatoes. It all worked and was very satisfying. It’s one thing to have good food but when you have a friendly, helpful staff to go along with it that just makes you want to come back again.

Walnut Café holds a special place in my heart, it was my favorite place to eat when I lived in Boulder. I love their selection of coffee and their breakfast is incredible! Also love the fact that they have veggie sausage! The staff was always so friendly and helpful, I hope to go back someday

We were visiting CU Boulder from Houston and found this place on Unilocal for breakfast. It’s a small place with wonderful food, great coffee and friendly staff. Since my son will be going to school here on the fall, I look forward to making this our breakfast spot when we visit. Oh yeah, get the banana bread as a side. It’s really good!

Love Walnut Café, you will I promise or I’ll make you love it because it’s fire. Literally the ultimate breakfast spot forget The Buffs mediocre service and extensive wait times. The true crown jewel of east Boulder is Walnut Café. Let’s start with the pies because it’s usually how I finish my absolutely gluttonous eating sprees. The specials are always good and the cobbler was unreal. All the other pies for regular selection are consistently amaze-balls. The pancakes are also good. Don’t be a plain Jane lame. Order the granola(oatmeal? Maybe.) banana cakes. I also got chocolate chips thrown in for good measure. I’m a special snowflake. Finally for all you coffee drinkers out there all the drinks offered at the Walnut Café are absolutely unbelievable. From more traditional drinks cappuccinos and everyone’s classic favorite the black coffee to Carmel infuse creations of absolute palatable bliss. Go. Go now.

YOUHAVETHETRYTHISPLACE! Yes, it is that GREAT and deserves recognition. I actually accidently went here. I was planning to grab breakfast at a nearby restaurant that was way too packed. We were driving and I spotted this place. Everything about this experience was great! We decided to join many others and sit outside for our meal. They seated us underneath the heater which was great. I was worried that my daughter might get a bit chilly. Then they offered us blankets! Yes, they have blankets readily available for those that decide to sit outside to enjoy the sunshine! I ordered the Skip Scramble which came with vegan sausage. The BEST vegan sausage I have EVER had. It was crispy on the outside and tasted sooo flavorful! I’m still thinking about how great it tasted. I like the fact that they let you choose from a lot of great breakfast sides. I had the breakfast potatoes and banana bread. So Yummy! OHHHH… and they also have an espresso bar! I ordered the Boulder latte with almond milk.(Vanilla, honey, cinnamon, and almond milk) Our food arrived quickly, our server always came at the appropriate times, the service from all employees was AWESOME, and the food was delicious. I’m already looking forward to coming back again.

Having the time of our lives discovering Colorado in general we rely on Unilocal a lot for almost everything. Places to dine? I say Unilocal rules. So dropping in for brunch on New Year’s Day it was a welcome sight to see this place open and bustling with customers. They don’t take reservations so we waited patiently. More or less 10 – 30 mins. They’re super busy but it appears the staff can take it. Although one woman was an exception. Our server. She was slow and getting slower by the minute. I think she’s not suited to this fast pace business. The food was good. Tasty. I had the Egg Marcos. It was scrambled eggs with cream cheese and country potatoes. No complains. They’re known for good coffee. I had one of the best Decaf Mocha. The wait for the waitress to take our orders after already having to wait to sit was painfully bad. I had to summon the busboy to get her. Our food was not hot but room temperature. Which suggests that the kitchen was fast and our waitress was the exact opposite. Every turn was a wait. It’s like time stood still. So I don’t think I’m going back again sooner. Not a pro tip: but as someone who asked where’s the corned beef hash on the menu and was told«I don’t know why it’s not there.» You should continue asking.

Short version: Communism meets hearty. With the socialist idea that I want to seat on a communal table with two hippies having the munchies and a single mom waiting for the dead beat dad to buy their love child breakfast, this place has awesome food! Long version: Walnut café is boulder defined. I don’t like people, so I don’t like the communal tables, they kind of gross me out and make it weird to eat. I am a fan of the food though. The place is popular and service can be tardy. You may have to wait a bit but is it worth it? Yes! it is. I never left this place feeling disappointed or scammed, but full of carbs, coffee and laughter(I laugh at weird hippies a lot). I don’t like the menu with the smiling faces, its creepy.

Great breakfast spot! I have been looking for a good GLUTEN-FREEPANCAKE spot. My dad and I ordered breakfast, and we got a side of GF buttermilk pancakes, and a side of regular buttermilk pancakes(had to taste test) and let me say that we are both pancake kind of people. They were both super fluffy and amazing. Those GF pancakes tasted just like the regular ones, and the same fluffy consistency. I asked, and they said they use Bob’s Red Mill brand for their pancakes. FYI, for a tiny up-charge, you can request REAL maple syrup.

Not too impressed with our breakfast at Walnut Café. We went about 9:00 on a Wednesday morning and were seated immediately. The restaurant was only about half full but it still took almost 10 minutes for a waitress to bring menus and offer coffee. She was friendly and apologetic about the delay. This was, unfortunately, to be a trend throughout our meal. I ordered a basic American breakfast — 2 eggs sunny side up with breakfast potatoes and fresh fruit. I also added a side of green chile. The food came out fairly quickly so it was surprising that it was not hot. The potatoes were bland, room temperature and not crispy at all. The eggs were overlooked. The green chile was flavorful but mild. The best part was the fruit bowl, which had a nice variety. My wife had scrambled eggs with French toast and fruit cup. Her rating was pretty much the same as mine. The waitress came by once, when we were almost done eating, noticed our coffees were empty, apologized and eventually brought more. She was nice enough but the service was not great. Walnut Café is the kind of place I want to like — casual, friendly, local. Unfortunately, they didn’t deliver us a good breakfast so probably not on my return list.

This place is located smack-dab in the middle of a strip on Walnut and 30th. There is outdoor and indoor seating for when the sun is awake. There was no wait when came here to meet a friend here on a Thursday morning around 9am. I ordered the Artichoke and Swiss omelette with potatoes and blueberry cornbread as my two sides. There’s something you have to know about this place. When you ask for an Artichoke and Swiss omelette here, you get an omelette packed with artichoke-y goodness. And when I say packed, I mean stuffed ’til the egg is bursting at the seams. Taste wise, the omelette was great; I mean, it was stuffed with artichoke hearts, what’s not great about that? The potatoes were equally delicious and cooked to perfection. The blueberry cornbread was very rich and very delicious. The blueberries added just enough sweetness to the cornbread, and gave it a fresher, lighter taste; I thoroughly enjoyed it. The price was standard(~$ 11 w/tip) and the service was average. Overall, a solid breakfast place in Boulder.

Went here with my dad and he loved it because apparently it was from«his time», meaning very diner feel but with art and music and waitresses dressed in homage to the 70s and 80s. Growing up listening to my old man’s music, I found the place to be quite nostalgic as well. However, food here is another story. Not a throwback but very expected for breakfast fare. We ordered the denver omelette and Friday lunch special which featured a sort of smothered breakfast burrito. Most meals here come with your choice of 2 sides and if you get the pancakes, they are massive! And delicious, so my rec for most bang for your buck. The French toast served to be quite delectable as well. Unfortunately my omelette tasted dry, which is the downfall of bad omelettes. Luckily the smothered burrito proved to live up to its name as being juicy and overloading with green chili flavor. The burrito housed scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, and veggies, while the flour tortilla is doused in green chili salsa, amounting to an a-ok meal in my book!

I really like the theme this place is going for — very eclectic, hippie-ish vibe. Bright colors and a friendly staff. They have a very extensive menu with lots of veggie options, which is great. They offer cage-free eggs as a supplemental cost. I wish they’d just use cage-free as a default rather than an option, and just charge a little extra. My huevos rancheros was so-so. Not bad, not great. I’d return for the atmosphere, but the food, while decent, was nothing to get too excited about.
