I couldn’t believe how low the reviews were for Macy’s. Then I actually tried to buy something there. I called to ask if they had a magnetic knife strip for hanging kitchen knives. Here’s how the call went starting from the moment I was transferred to housewares: [ring ring] Macy’s Rep: Hello? Me: Um, hello? Macy’s rep: Hi. Me: [chuckle] Is this Macy’s housewares department? Macy’s rep: Um, yeah. Me: Ok well I’m looking for a magnetic knife strip. Macy’s rep: A what? Me: A magnetic knife strip. For hanging kitchen knives. Macy’s rep: ok. [awkward silence] Me: So… do you? Macy’s rep: No. I hung up. That marks the end of my attempts to give Macy’s any more money.

We stopped into this Macy’s on a Friday night to find the ultimate black coat. The coat department was in disarray with many coats off hangers, tossed on top of displays. I found one to try on but the security pin was blocking the zipper. We looked around to find someone to help us remove it so I could try it on when it was zipped. No one was around. We wandered, and eventually heard someone trying to get our attention. It was lovely and very tall! We explained our predicament and she helped remove the security tag. Another lady in a coat was helping her which was perplexing. I thought she was a customer, but she wasn’t. She worked there. I tried on the coat, and a few others. The coat lady stood nearby and offered no help or acknowledgment. We decided which coat to buy, and now she was the salesperson. She was so disinterested in helping us or even talking to us that it was hurtful and offensive. She wanted nothing to do with us, and it was obviously she didn’t want to be there, considering she was dressed in a jacket, coat, and scarf. The store was empty, hardly anyone was there. I don’t understand why an employee wouldn’t want to simply smile, say hello, and engage even a little bit. It was bothersome enough that we discussed it, and decided to write this post. If someone is in sales, and representing a business, please realize that a smile, and a hello, goes a long way toward making a happy customer.

Gave you 1 star because I cannot go lower. I stood in the Coach purse department for 20 minutes, with floor staff passing all around me or chatting in the sales counter area, and we never even looked at, much less asked if I needed help. I get that I dont wear fancy cloths and I have a beard and close cropped hair, I’m not your normal customer… but I sure as shit have enough money to buy my wife a $ 400 purse from you. I’ll never shop at your store again and if I could have, I would have purchased the purse elsewhere.

You would be surprised what good deals can be had in this store! However, it can be so packed with stuff that you need at least a half a day to go through everything. It just ends up making me feel a bit overwhelmed. However, if I can get through and have a focus on what I want, there are quality items to be found at good prices.

This store is tired at best. It is the only department store in town so I have gone for things like make-up or an occasional wedding or graduation gift. They advertise having the brands you all know and love but rarely have items in stock. I’m not sure if its because its a smaller store and they don’t have first dibs like the larger stores, or they are understaffed in the purchasing department. Either way, the last 4 times I have been here the item hey advertised was not in stock. Very frustrating!

It’s a basic department store, a little tired around the edges but some brand name items cannot be found elsewhere locally. Big sales do offer bargains, especially if you are a Macy’s cardholder and can use the extra bonus coupons. But that in itself seems somewhat unfair. I prefer stores that will sell their merchandise at the same price to whoever walks in the door.

Great sales, especially around Christmas time. Best return/exchange experience I’ve ever had at any big department store.

Dear Macy’s please get it together. This is not 1985. The whole place just seems like a dumpy memory of 30 stagnant years of the same crap. Sure maybe the clothes are okay but is your store any reflection of the culture or community of Boulder — OFCOURSENOT. Somebody wake these zombies up! I’m being so harsh aren’t I. I hate when I get this way. Everything is fine. This store is fine, the staff is fine, the fashion is kinda fine. But Fine is not what we’re looking for is it? Can’t someone at this store break free from the corporate shackles of it’s deep ruts in the road? Let’s spice this place up or move it out — okay I’m done now.

This isn’t the biggest Macy’s in the state, nor the fanciest, but there’s any number of great associates there, and the people they have seem to know what they’re doing. If you know how to work the cards, coupons and sales, you can get great deals here, and if you find the right associates, you can get great advice, so don’t be afraid to have a look around. Would be 5 stars if it weren’t for the awful Christmas music from November 1st to Christmas and the reduced selection(no Origins!) compared to other locations.

Compared with other department stores, Macy’s has terrible service. This is true not of this store, but across Macy’s in general. In terms of the makeup counter people, I think this Macy’s has a pretty good staff. But, since it’s the only department store in Boulder, it’s where you go for department store items such as makeup, certain brands, nicer household items.

I hadn’t been into this store probably since it was May D&F a million years ago. And I really would have been happy to stretch that record a bit further. Amazingly this store has the same layout it did back then; kitchenware, linens, etc are in exactly the same locations they were back then. The addition of the whole 29th Street Mall has made the downstairs super dark despite putting in some skylight buffer areas near the entrances. Over each register hangs a «Service Center» sign, however nearly all of them were unmanned and I really got bad service. I had to ask 3 different people to find the Wedding Registry Center, because no one was very specific about where to find it. Once I got the registry, very little the bride and groom had registered for was actually available at the store.(This I had to decipher myself because the employees didn’t seem to know that if there is a star where the price ought to be then they don’t carry it.) A woman in the linens department was the pushiest salesperson I’ve seen in ages. She told the couple she was ringing up her name twenty times and told them to make sure they used her name for something or other so she would get a $ 25 bonus. Tacky. When I couldn’t find anything off the registry I wanted to purchase, at least in her department, she practically grabbed my arm to keep me there. I hate feeling like a walking commission in the eyes of salespeople. I did find some decent coffee mugs for myself, which are deceptively hard to find; maybe people don’t make their own coffee anymore? We only buy from Starbucks now or what? Though they were not marked, it turns out the mugs were on sale so I got 33% off. Anyway, the little old guy who checked me out was pleasant, and wrapped each mug individually. Macy’s gets to keep 2 stars for having mugs and cute old men as checkers. Otherwise, I’m gonna see if I can not shop there for another 15+ years.
