I do not agree with Jennifer T’s review. Dr. Pei Fen Yan and Dr. Liu Yong are as good as it gets. Their care stems from years of practice in China and Taiwan. Dr. Pei was a physician in China and so was Dr.Liu. They take pride in the care they provide. When I came to them I was suffering from serious insomnia after having my two older boys 15 months apart. Dr. Liu put together my herbal teas and is an expert on curing muscle spasms and spine issues. Dr. Pei treated me through my pregnancies with my youngest sons(I have three sons). She made pills out of my placenta. She was there for me whenever I needed care for 6 years before I moved to the Bay Area. Bay Area being a heavily population of acupuncturists I have yet to find a replacement for what I would call an extra set of parents. When I first walked into their practice I felt like fish out of water… I am a westerner and they are Chinese of coarse it takes time to understand their practice. like they sometimes run behind or seem rushed but in their defense they are over 70 years old and they do not need to work. They have done well for themselves, they do it because they love it and they love to help their patients. I give them 5 Stars. They were the 3rd people that ever help my newborn sons. And Dr. Pei predicted it being a boy both times! I miss the care they provide! Mariana mom of three boys

Maybe I got them on a bad day(or month!), but I thought the service was rushed and very poor. I’ve had lots of acupuncture during my ten years in China, and this was bad. The doctor also completely ignored common acupuncture knowledge like not having the patient freeze while they are being treated. The pre-natal exam and treatment had questionable hygiene standards(even compared to what you’d get in China), and she didn’t have all the tools to finish it. The doctor did not know how to submit an insurance claim and made us pay everything up front, and then didn’t file for nearly two weeks, calling us several times for information she already had. I eventually had to call the insurance company and have them contact her. She eventually billed the insurance company 190 for 15 minutes of acupuncture work. That is excessive, especially since I paid all of her registration fees myself. She also did not send a reimbursement check for services not delivered and what the insurance company paid, despite telling us several times she would. My husband eventually had to go pick it up in person, and she was incredibly rude when she presented it. Doctor also pushed Chinese medicine very heavily. While I’m not opposed, I don’t like being pushed to buy off-label brands that are coming from god-knows-where. If you want to know why, just google fake Chinese medicine. Finally, their phone manner was gruff from the get go. Even when the insurance company called them they simply answered the phone, said«not working now» and hung up. This was at 11am. I know companies have bad days and the other reviewers seem happy. That being said, my interaction with them lasted a whole month and each time I left feeling worse than the last.

Both Drs. Yan and her husband Dr. Liu are highly skilled and experienced acupuncturists. Both were MDs in China and Dr. Yan specializes in ob/gyn, pre-natal, post-natal, infertility and many women’s health issues. I’ve seen Dr. Liu for a number of issues ranging from headaches to bronchitis to allergies to back pain. The treatments were VERY effective. This team is the real deal, trained as MDs AND acupuncturists. English is their second language, which has on occasion meant I needed to slow down and be patient, but that’s a minor detail. They’re both very knowledgeable and Dr. Yan always greets me with a big smile. The office can get quite busy, but the schedule is usually quite timely. I recommend both doctors. Oh, and they bill my insurance too!
