My go to spot for warm chicken soup, chicken, duck, and BBQ roast pork in one sitting. The price is unbeatable and the flavor is good, albeit a little too greasy.

Easy to miss just like their Oxford St location. I actually prefer this one because it’s closer to my office, though the Oxford St shop offers ice cream and is considered a classic. Here I always get the ginger scallion chicken rice plate(no bone) with extra ginger scallion sauce on the side. Super yummy. Sometimes I add a salted egg. It comes with a very good duck bone soup that really ties everything together nicely. Good food, good service, good price, can’t ask for too much more. PS Gets kind of hot during the summer though, no AC.

I came here last week with my coworker and found this place to be meh. I found out later that I went to the wrong one and I was suppose to meet at the basement location on Oxford St and according to them, they were better. Anyway this was my first time going here so it was different for me. I ordered the bbq pork over rice plate and it wasn’t that good. First, the portion was extremely small and putting it on a bigger plate made it look even smaller. Second, they only gave like 5 pieces of roast pork and all of them were flavorless and hard to chew. Last, the rice under it was cold. If you’re going to charge over $ 6 for this kind of plate, they should give more than just a few hard pieces. I can go further but I’m not going to bother. All I can say that I won’t be coming back here anytime soon and will try the other location instead.

this is one of my favorite places to eat lunch at. Great value, great food and it’s got an old school chinatown feel to it. Best place to eat lunch since they got rid of Chinatown Café(now it’s a condo complex sigh…) Btw, don’t come here to order the stir-fry, it’s not really what they specialize in. Always opt for the bbq food\poultry with rice. It’s like going to a steakhouse and ordering the salmon. I’m sure it’ll taste just fine but you might’ve just cheated yourself of tasting something even better.

This place is no frills, divey, old school Chinese BBQ diner(if there is such a thing). They are known for their Chinese BBQ rice plates, not for their stir fry dishes(beef chow fun and chow mein). You have to know what you want when your order at the counter by specifying what cut of meat you like, for example, if you like white meat chicken with no bones, you need to tell them or else they will just give you a variety of chicken parts. I personally like the soy sauce chicken drumstick and veggies rice plate and my fiancé likes the white meat chicken with no bones with BBQ pork, veggies and rice. The portions are good and the complementary soup is good(reminds me of the soup my mom makes at home) and it is cash only. It is the closest thing to a home cooked meal that you can find in Boston Chinatown.

Super greasy and oily noodle dishes. We got the Beef Chow Fun and Lo Mein with Duck and BBQ Pork. The flavors were great, but each bite felt drenched in oil. The meats accompanying the dishes were good and tasty. The complimentary soup that came before our noodles was yummy. Looks like most people get rice dishes here, maybe that’s where we went wrong. If I came back here again, I would definitely try something with rice.

Always my favorite place in Chinatown! They have the best ginger and scallion sauce(?) — it’s honestly one of the main things that keeps me coming back. It looks a little sketchy and run down, but I have never had a better chicken and duck rice than this. The dishes are very simply built — they give you chicken soup followed by the main dish — your choice of meat, some cabbage, rice, and soy sauce and their ginger and scallion drizzled over it all. The best thing is that the food comes quick — I haven’t finished my soup yet and they’ve already given me my meal! It’s a reasonable price, and delicious too!

I love this place for Chinese barbecue. I always get the same thing. Then chicken leg and duck rice and it’s awesome. Occasionally, I would get the Char Sui or roast pork, both are good too. They have all this plates done the same way: choice of meat, a little bit of napa cabbage, soy sauce and ginger and scallion sauce. I love their ginger and scallion sauce. I can never replicate it myself. Sometimes I ask for more of that sauce. They also serve a small cup of chicken soup on the side. If you like spice, be sure to ask for a hot oil. Portions are pretty decent size. The place itself is small. I only get takeout here. Lastly, this place is cash only. Give this place a try.

Well, you know Stacy’s mom? You’d go out with Stacy but secretly you yearn for the immoral affection from her mom. However thing is completely different with Mrs. Chen. She’s the mother of your token Asian friend, an awkward nerd you can’t leave behind partly because he’d always help you with your homework and he always happy when you come over his house to eat. And Mrs. Chen would treat you as if you were her own, that means she’d whoop your butt if you break things inside her house or yells at you for not taking off your shoes before come in the house. But you always come back for her homemade chicken rice and vegetable anyway, even though you don’t understand half of what she says for she tends to speak to you in Chinese, and the only Chinese word you know is probably general Tao chicken. The Wai restaurant here provide you that same homemade meal, that same«speak to you in Chinese even when you can’t understand a thing» experience, with a very affordable price. That way you can reminiscence about your token Asian friend who had left you behind to moved back to China. P/s: Remember to try their duck leg and pork chop too and eat your vegetable like Mrs. Chen always tells you. P p/s: I like this location better than the seedy underground location on Oxford street.

I love this place! I work at Tufts University so on my lunch break I would just run across the street and grab this quick fix box to go. The meat is alway fresh. The lady is super nice. They’re generally nice people and always give enough of a portion for you. 6.75 you can get three different types of meat! This is like a more cleaner version of tjeoriginal wai wai downstairs. Cash only! And no ice cream haha they should really change the title.

This is the best chicken and rice I have EVER eaten. Soy sauce chicken cut up with a special soy sauce and scallion oil over rice. He also gave me bean sprouts for texture and balance. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and tender, the rice is fluffy, and the sauce combination is perfect. This is legitimate and dingy — a place I’m sure used to be polished with dreams and hopes. The menu isn’t complicated, and the flavors aren’t out of the ordinary, but it is the purity, the savory simplicity that makes me love this place so much. We don’t just eat food when we venture outside our kitchens, we eat stories too. There is more soul to food then we ever give credit for. For me, this tastes like heritage. Also as for service, the first time I found it rather straightforward(read: not overly attentive). This time — I don’t know if it was because I looked like some long lost relative or I looked pathetic ordering take out, the lady at the register was very warm and kind. As for table service, she is alright — not most attentive. tldr: greasy goodness soy sauce chicken and rice w/scallion oil

This is a cheap place for lunch. I love their chicken breast with rice and veggie. There’s another location on Oxford St, but this place is a bit bigger and better lit.

Fat G. coming in with a review of a place you might have seen in Chinatown but probably not dared to try. Wai Style Restaurant, located across from Apollo and Ding Ho Fast Food, is owned by the same folks who run Wai Wai Restaurant( ) on Oxford St. Having been to Wai Wai and knowing their quality of food, I tried this place as well. Enter the inside and there are a couple of small tables in the back and the side. On the right is where you can order cuts of meat to go and pay your bill. From what i understand, the menu selection is the same as Wai Wai restaurant. I ended up ordering a combination rice plate with duck and bbq pork for around $ 7. The duck portion was mostly bone and the pork was dried out. Also there was this fan that kept blowing back and forth amongst the tables, making it very hard to eat comfortably. Service was ok, and so was cleanliness. This place is alright if you need a bite to eat and can’t wait, but there are better options in the Chinatown area.
