For what it is, this is as good as it gets. Cafeteria style, either grill station or hot table food. Grill takes forever during peak lunch time, but their turkey, prosciutto, basil, and mozzarella grilled pressed sandwich for under six bucks rocks. Its in the police station and is where the cops eat. Thus if you are afraid of cops, don’t come. If you have warrants and or cannot pass through a metal detector without being arrested, also stay away. For the rest of us… come on down!

Have you ever seen a cop going to a restaurant and said to yourself, «this must not be such a bad place, if the cops come here.»? Well this place is full of cops every day. It’s in the first floor lobby of Boston Police Headquarters. Open to the public, but almost impossible to find a parking spot, and you might have to wait in line at the metal detectors before getting in. There are regulars who work at nearby businesses, as well as students from Madison Park HS or Northeastern. If the cop at the front desk recognizes you, he’ll wave you you past the metal detectors, which can make you feel like a VIP. Of course, when he waves through a dozen people and then makes YOU go through the metal detector, you might be offended. Don’t be; most of the department employees here are not uniformed, and there is a daycare center inside as well. The cop probably recognized all those people before you. You can get a really good meal here at a reasonable price. The set up is cafeteria style; a grill station where you can get sandwiches and burgers made to order, and a warmer station with the daily specials. My son told me a burger he got here was one of the best he’s ever had, and he orders burgers almost everywhere. I was very pleasantly surprised by how good the pizza is, Italian style, thin crust, great sauce. The fish sandwiches are fantastic; you were expecting frozen? No, watch them dip the fresh fish in batter, then the seasoned bread crumbs before going into the deep fryer. Stay away from the fried clams and shrimp, they’re made from frozen, and the clams are strips. If you want to get in and out fast, walk right past the people waiting at the grill station and go for one of the dinners at the warmer station. The specials change every day, I like the stir fry and the various fish dinners they come up with on Fridays. Open Monday through Friday from 6AM to 6PM, closed on holidays.
