Free hot tea! BBQ smells great, but in execution, it was ok, nothing phenomenal. Still, it was awesome having that option in the middle of the Greenway.

The Silk Road BBQ shack is dangerous – it’s right across the street from my office. The Pulled Pork Sandwich topped with barbeque sauce and cole slaw is well cooked and packs great flavor. You can tell that the guys at Silk Road love what they’re doing by interacting with them, and it shows in the quality of the food. Silk Road gets quite busy at peak times, so I try to stop by either a little before noon, or a little after 1. Another bonus — Silk Road is no longer cash-only and takes credit cards as well as LevelUp(so download the app and you can pay with your phone, well worth it in Boston).

Silk Road has now firmly entrenched itself as my second favorite food truck in the city(after Clover). The secret to this place’s success is the BBQ sauce, which is apple-based from what I can tell. It is sweet and very tangy. The pulled pork sandwich is pretty good, but I miss the crispy bark. So I instead opt for the jerk chicken skewers, which are loaded into hot dog rolls and topped with the BBQ sauce and cole slaw. Get the special for $ 7 where you get two rolls. One is not enough.

Finally tried this place. I got their BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich. Watery, but tasty. You get a sandwich on a white roll in a clear plastic container. Before you can even sit down, the bottom part of the roll is soaked. FYI you’re not going to make it back to your desk with this thing intact. The sandwich had an interesting flavor — they give you an all-right portion of pork, topped with some kinda cole slaw stuff. I detected no BBQ sauce, and the pork sure didn’t «melt in your mouth» as other reviewers here mention. I sometime wonder if I’m eating at the same place as everyone else?! The pork is OK. It’s not infused with BBQ flavor or smokiness — in fact it’s a little bland. The watery sauce has some kick to it — spicy but not spicy — more like just some heat. The crunchy-sweet cole-slaw stuff nicely offsets the water-hot-sauce. Not a bad sandwich, but not great, either.

Asked for their specialty and they let me know it’s all about the Pulled Pork. While the bun was warming over a charcoal grill just outside of the hut the guys offered me a taste of their White Bean Chili… great creamy texture and big flavors, packed with shredded chicken. The Pulled Pork sandwich is carefully assembled on the bun.(pretty sure it was a potato bun but don’t quote me) They take it Memphis style by adding coleslaw atop the pork and finishing it off with their house BBQ sauce. Not sure how long the pork has been cooked but it melts in your mouth and combo of the fresh coleslaw and tangy sauce w/a nice kick puts it over the top. «If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up…»

Yay! I finally have somewhere to eat lunch near I work other than Clover(love Clover, but I think I’ve become that weird person who goes everyday). My husband and I shared the pulled pork sandwhich(tasty — not a huge sandwhich, but a generous amount of meat!), jerk chicken stew(great on a cold day), and the parsley/tomato/almond salad(light and refreshing)! Even better, they have free tea!

I had heard so much about this place, but then heard some negative rumblings too. But I had to try it out. The workers are certainly some of the nicest I’ve ever met. They get 3 stars for that. Unfortunately, I just can’t give any more stars for the food. I went late and there was not much of a line. It took so long for them to grill the skewers. They recommended the jerk chicken. Oh my, if this is jerk chicken, then I guess I’m the jerk, or maybe the jerk is on me. Try the jerk from the M&M Ribs truck… even then, I’m not sure if it’s «authentic» but it’s certainly flavorful and more delicious. I also tried some pork loin plate. That was extremely bland and disappointing. I was really shocked by the steep prices — aren’t food trucks/stands supposed to be a bit cheaper, just because of the lower overhead? And portions were small… really glad I had more food waiting for me afterwards. Portions are such that they’re either a snack or you’ll have to pay some serious bucks for the bigger portions. Am I spoiled because I went to Central Asia last summer and had shashilik ’til I almost passed out? No, I am trying to compare this to food I could have in the area. For the price, taste and quantity, I just can’t give it more than 3 stars.

Silk Road have not tried the ribs yet, coming soon. However, the rice and jerk chicken this humid July afternoon was delicious. Amazing shaved carrots, soft rice and tender morsel of sliced chicken. Spicy just enough to bring a sweat to the brow. Definitely will be back.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — I have a lack of confidence in Boston BBQ, and though there are some decent places, nothing rocks my socks. However, I had to give this food stand a shot because, well, even if the food wasn’t good, I’m a sucker for lunch-from-a-cart. It was a seriously hot day, and this place is crazy-busy. There were two people working, and I had just arrived after a large party of about 20 came in together to place one big order. This made for about a 30 minute wait time for my food, but seeing those two men work their butts off in the sweltering heat gave me a reality check on my patience, so the wait was certainly bearable. What I ate: Jerk Chicken Sandwich — this is a small sandwich(on a hot dog roll) for $ 4.50 or 2 for 8. I wondered why they gave the option to get two for $ 8, but when I saw the size of the«sandwich», I understood. The chicken itself is cooked on a skewer so it’s a bit tough(not moist inside) but has a nice caramelization/crunchy exterior. The grilled and crunchy/chewy hot dog bun is filled with tangy bbq sauce that finishes with a nice little kick, then the chicken is filled on top, and finally the sandwich is covered in cole slaw. The cole slaw is tangy and not mayo-y at all — I’d say it’s more like a cole slaw-inspired salad than the mayonnaise-laden sticky stuff you’re used to seeing at family picnics, cookouts, and potlucks. I also ordered the pulled pork sandwich($ 7), but I ordered it over rice instead of on the grilled hamburger bun because i thought it’d hold up better with the drippy sauce until I got back to the office. This comes with the same crunchy slaw, the same spicy bbq sauce. The pulled pork was a bit dry/chewy and lacked any flavor, but with that same tangy barbecue sauce all mixed together, it was delightful. The rice on the bottom was pilaf and really added nothing to the dish, but that is absolutely not the joint’s fault, as a pulled pork sandwich should certainly be served inside a bun! If you can, i recommend getting it on the actual bread for that nice, grilled, chewy bun. Overall, I thought the jerk chicken had better flavor and left me wanting more, though i fully recognize that the pulled pork may have been more successful as an actual sandwich, so i’d recommend going for that if you’re feelin’ porky. My suggestion? Get the jerk chicken sandwich, and take advantage of the discount and get 2, because after you finish the first, you can bet you’ll want another. Plus, at $ 8 for two and a well-balanced flavor, i call this a stellar value as far as food-truck-in-downtown-Boston prices go. Also, if you’re feeling antsy due to the long wait, give the guys a break. They maintain jovial sweetness while serving a huge crowd of hungry business men, all in 90 degree weather without losing their smile for one second.

I was honestly pleasantly surprised, especially because I was at the SOWA market and I picked a food stand over a food truck, but I was craving BBQ. I ordered the pulled pork sandwhich and at first it doesnt look like much but the pork is nice and juicy, the pomegranate chilli sauce is completely insane and I had to thank the chef after the meal, something i rarely do. The only thing I wouldve wanted is more veg tables on the sandwich and maybe some pickled Korean carrots or pickles.

Tried this place after walking by it many times. I needed something quick and the pulled pork was easy enough. They made me a solid sandwich, they also told me that they put a leaf of lettuce on the buns to prevent the bread from getting soggy. It was a good pulled pork but it can get a little messy, pretty tasty though.

Didn’t realize it was a shack for a long time — walked across Atlantic like 4 times until finding Silk Road in the middle. Tried a pulled pork sandwich and a Jamaican jerk chicken dish with the special Moroccan salad. It’s a crazy menu of flavors/cuisines, but I liked it. Pulled pork sandwich was yummy but way too soggy with the slaw. had to eat it with a fork and knife since the bottom bun was completely soaked. Jerk chicken was very flavorful, and great rice pilaf but everything was kinda cold considering the cold weather + shack = nothing stays warm for very long. BUT the free hot tea was a LOVELY touch, and the man was very nice. And it was pretty cool seeing them break down the entire stand and load it into a truck when they closed.

Having worked in the Financial District for almost 2 years now, I’ve eaten at many of the lunch spots in the area. I frequent some of the chains purely based off location and convenience, but there is only ONE place I consistently day dream of in the 15 minutes prior to lunchtime. It’s all about Silk Road BBQ’s Pulled Pork Sandwich. It was perfectly meaty, juicy, and satisfying. It sets you back no more than other sandwiches in the area, but puts the chains to shame. On top of that, the employees there were so friendly despite having to brave the winter elements in their little hut out on the Greenway. A welcome change to the lunch scene, I hope to try many more of their options when the weather warms up!

I’ve heard about this place from a couple of different people, and since their move to the greenway, I’ve been wanting to make the trip and see what its all about. After finally getting a day off from work, I found myself in the area, and decided to swing by. Right off the bat, I noticed a group of business men gathered around the stand, all of whom seemed to be regulars. I took it as a good sign, and when I heard several of them order the pulled pork sandwich, I figured that was my go to. I wasn’t disappointed. The pork was perfectly cooked, the bbq sauce had a good tang to it, and the cole slaw(while not expected) was a nice surprise. My only problem is it wasn’t the biggest of portions, and for the price, I was hoping for a bit more. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the food was definitely worth it. I hope to be back soon!

I stopped by their Boston bbq hut a few weeks ago to try out their food. They are very friendly, good menu. However it’s kind of pricey given how much other places are for lunch around the area. They want $ 12 for a few small skewers, some rice and a salad. You can go to tons of places around that area and get the same items for ½ that price. They need to cut the prices and add more meat! That’s the general consensus I’ve heard. They do have good hot dogs I was told and I havent tried their sandwiches. I might give them another shot. update– upgrade 1 star! I gave them another shot and the food did improve, with cheaper prices. The lamb was pretty tasty and their gazpacho was good. Next time I’m going to give the pulled pork sandwich a shot. Any talk of adding some pita bread? Would be nice to soak up the tazaki!

I am a resident of dreary Waverley Square and am delighted that this roadside stand full of carnivorous treats has made its way to my neighborhood. As I am writing this now in the Spring, I don’t know when or where the stand will be popping up in the next couple of months. But I was assured by the owner before the snows fell that he would be back!

We had been reading about Silk Road and finally had the chance to hunt them down tonight. Friendly people, cute little stand and oh my the food! We ordered ribs(didn’t call ahead as suggested but we didn’t have much wait) and a beef skewer with tzatziki. YUM! The ribs were amazing… perfectly smoked and spiced. They were out of chicken skewers but we were glad in the long run because the beef was delish. While we were waiting, they were passing around pieces of a lamb skewer that was divine – not too gamy, perfectly cooked. There was a busker in the parking lot playing guitar and selling CDs. People kept arriving, on foot, by car(many with adorable little dogs in tow!), all to get their BBQ. Definitely will be heading here often for a quick, tasty meal. As someone else said: «Check out their website and find out where they are stationed, the location changes.» And bring cash!!! They don’t take cards. Oh and as a bonus, the Geleteria across the street will pack up pints and quarts if you want to bring home desserts! :)

Really good food and«authentic» for being on the side of the road. However, they need to get their act together a bit… They don’t come out on time, so make sure you call ahead. Also, they have ribs and pork, but don’t list it on the menu. Not sure why you’d make things like rib and pulled pork, but not make an effort to sell them? Also, the meals take a long time(at least for takeout — 15 – 20 mins) to prepare due to the nature of the style of cooking.

Wow, this is so cool and delicious. Here’s the deal: Check out their website and find out where they are stationed, the location changes. Head over and choose from lamb, beef and salads. Apparently, ribs are coming soon. Grab some hot(complimentary) tea to warm up in cold weather. I think this place is going to be a hot spot during summer months. The staff is relaxed and inviting. Stay for a while and chat it up, but move away from the ordering station because there is bound to be a line behind you! We had the lamb and were wanting more the next day. Cooked on an open wood fire, you really can’t beat the effort put in to this production.
