This my first time in Boston. This is the first place that I decided to eat, based off of Unilocal.I ordered the scallop roll, mozzarella sticks and an Italian sub for my hotel fridge for later. I was treated well and the service was quick. The food was delicious. I loved it. I’d eat here a lot if I lived here. I’m not sure how the price compares locally but I thought it almost the same to a little higher than the DC Area.

First i should say that i have been a loyal customer of royals for years since moving to east boston ordering at least twice a week. To my suprise after a lunch order at work i received 6 mozz. sticks for 7.25!!! I couldnt believe they would charge more than a dollar a piece so i called to make sure it was no mistake. Sure enough it was not and whoever answered the phone must have been going through a midlife crisis because she was the most miserable person i have ever spoken to in my life. She was so rude stating that basically it was too bad and those were there prices. Food is good but not good enough to be overpriced. They should be happy they serve food and not customer service.

I live in San Diego and when I come to Boston around twice a year, I head from Logan Airport to Royal Roast Beef and get a couple of roast beef sandwiches. There is nothing like this place in all of Southern California. The beef is sliced thin and real melt in your mouth tender. My mouth gets all watered up just thinking about this place. This place beats Kelly’s, Mike’s in Everett and Bedford Roast Beef hands down, to name a few, which are also great places to get a roast beef sandwich. I have been dining here for over thirty years and although this place is nothing fancy, it has the finest roast beef sandwich in the galaxy. Yummy!!!

Conflicting feelings about this spot. I ordered delivery and was sooooo hungry that seafood sounded super good, but I also felt like I had to order this roast beef everyone was talking about. In order to save time deciding I ordered both. To be more specific I ordered the clam strip plate and the regular roast beef sandwich with provolone, fried onions, mushrooms, mayo and per the very kind person that took my order over the phone’s suggestion, bbq sauce on the side. As I said the girl that answered the phone was super nice and even though she said it would arrive in 30 minutes I would swear that it arrived even sooner than that. The delivery guy was also very friendly and the food arrived as ordered(except for an extra tartar sauce thrown in the bag, how did they know?!) and was hot crispy and fresh. So by now you are probably wondering… sooooo why only 3 stars then?! Well here is the hard truth… the clam strips were a super let down, it seemed like they were all breading and I didn’t taste much clam just fried batter strips in fact I didn’t taste much at all and even salting didn’t help. Good thing the tartar sauce was other worldly because I used it to also dip my fries in but I barely ate any of the clam strips yuck :( Now back to the good stuff… this roast beef… I was kind of saving this for the next day since I wasnt going to have time to pick up any food the next day for lunch but I knew I had to taste it hot and fresh like it was meant to be in order to properly judge it. So I decided to eat a couple bites of it right then and there and man was it delicious. Im not sure what kind of mayo they use on their sandwiches but I probably would have drank it would they have given me the opportunity. I’m glad that I got the bbq sauce on the side though because a little went a long way. Then I packed it in my bag the next day and it sat in there for a good 4 or so hours until I pulled it out. How is it possible that it was even better the next day at room temperature?! I guess the flavors had melded or something magical. So the moral of this story is… I WILL eat here again, but I now know what to get and what not to get.

I’ve ordered from Royal’s a few times now, and it has not disappointed. Located in an unassuming residential area of East Boston, it appears to be just another delivery joint for locals, but it has some of the best fried seafood i have ever had. My first time there I ordered a steak and cheese, which was good, but nothing to write home about. I’m not a fan of roast beef, so I havent had it there, but their seafood is fabulous and fresh. The fried oyster dinner came with huge fresh oysters. The amount of oysters was so big the dinner could be for two. I’ve also had the scallop roll twice. There must be close to 12 scallops on that thing! Its so big you cant even eat it like a sandwich. But quality over quantity. Not only are the portions generous, the taste is phenomenal. The batter is light and is the perfect ratio to scallop. The taste really comes from the freshness, though. The scallops are cooked to perfection, never overdone.

The clam strip roll was huge. Very good tasting. Great value for the hard earned dollar. Enough clams for me and a friend. Toasted bun. More Fries than an entire family would ever need. I had the strips. Will get the whole belly next time. The chowder left something to be desired. It’s not something I’d ever get again or feel like my dollars were well spent. Watery as can be. Barely any clam at all. Honestly I threw clam strips in there to make up for it. The staff was friendly. There’s parking and good drinks and desserts. I recommend you visit and see for yourself.

This place was legit. I got a little overwhelmed/confused by the menu and ordering, but the roast beef was amazing. Would go again.

I go to Royals over Belle Isle Seafood all the time. The shrimp roll is AMAZING! Also, the super beef and the rice pilaf are fabulous. Usually very quick delivery and wonderful food.

Royal has some super tasty roast beef sandwiches! It’s a small restaurant and a little dated, but they know how to cook! There has been a steady stream of customers for the last hour and many folks get the food to go, so the restaurant looks empty. I tried the Super Roast Beef on an onion roll and it’s one of the best I have eaten. The roast beef is prepared from solid slabs of beef, sliced fresh, and cooked to perfection! The fries are fresh cut as well and very crispy. You won’t be disappointed when you too them with cheese and bacon!

Best and freshest tasting seafood of our short trip! We found this local restaurant in East Boston by checking an app. Located in a working class neighborhood, it was a mom and pop type place, nothing fancy, actually kind of run down, but doing a steady business. Had the haddock broiled dinner, Nicely prepared and wonderfully fresh huge piece of fish, melted in my mouth. 13.99.

Royal is always busy but they move quickly and the food ALWAYS tastes so fresh. My fave is the fish and chips, but have also had salads, buffalo chicken and other grilled chicken items from here and I love them all. French fries are also really great — nice and crispy. If in East Boston/Winthrop area and looking for a quick but quality lunch or dinner, this is the place.

Super pastrami was good. While tasty, this place did not stand out for me as far as pastrami sandwiches go — my three star rating means this place is a good option, «a-ok».

Great service. Quick and friendly. Steak bomb was incredibly ample and tasty. The Royal combination with Broiled haddock and scallops tasted great, and I really loved the coleslaw. Different than most and good!

Fast delivery. One of the first meals I shared with my current girlfriend. Strict on their closing times even when theres 10mins left till close. Fries are the most order item in my household, many times thats all we’ll call in to pick up. Burgers and chicken sandwiches are good. Wings are a bit greasy. Portions are just fine but the itis hits you shortly after you done with your last bite.

Let me share some advice, when you’re in the mood for a heaping pile of fried anything, this is the place to go. Sometimes you just don’t want a small side salad and need to clog your arteries and loosen the belt a bit. The atmosphere of this place is more like a clam shack or fast food, where you order at the counter and find a booth. The prices are pretty reasonable for seafood and the portions are astronomical. I’m a huge eater and I could only put away about half of my fried shrimp platter. The shrimp was plump and fresh, and had a nice batter. Also the few fried clams I had were quite tasty as well. I know there are several similar places in the Boston area and they are hit or miss. Lucky for me, this one is a hit.

Meatball sub was horrible! The cheese was hard, and the sauce tasted like it had Texas Pete in it. Although, I do love their roast beef sandwiches.

Oh man, what a hidden jewel! This place looks shabby, like a hole in the wall. The exterior of the building looks like it hasn’t been touched since the 1980s. My first impression of this place was that it is sketchy. That is, until my friends brought me here. The first thing that came to my mind when I walked through the door was Kelly’s. Yes, the infamous Kelly’s Roast Beef(which is a couple miles down the road in Revere). However, unlike Kelly’s this seemed more like a family owned restaurant; welcoming and unpretentious. I looked at the menu, and found that it was similar to Kelly’s. But that’s where the similarities end. This place is *gasp* BETTER than Kelly’s! I couldn’t decide between the roast beef or the seafood. So, I decided to get them both. I ordered the Super Roast Beef sandwich, and the Fried Seafood Combination Dinner. On the roast beef sandwich, I kept it simple. Roast beef with cheese and barbecue sauce on an onion roll. I wanted to find out how their roast beef sandwiches were, so I didn’t want to dilute it with toppings. The beef was warm, tender, and flavorful.(Take notes, Kelly’s!) I enjoyed it very much! I’d say that it was the second best roast beef sandwich I’ve ever had. The sandwich came with fries. The fries didn’t look very special, but when I took a bite, WOW! The fries were delightfully crispy. I’m around this area all the time, and occasionally have lunch at the Burger King. Burger King’s fries are so horrible that I take them to the beach to feed the seagulls. Not at Royal’s. Royal’s fries are so good that I may never eat at that Burger King across the street again! The fried seafood combo dinner had clams, scallops, shrimp, haddock and onion rings. The onion rings were good. The batter they use just flakes right off, and the onion gave it a good flavor. The clams were whole belly clams, the largest I’ve ever seen. They were also DELICIOUS! I loved Kelly’s fried clams until I tried these. Sorry, Kelly’s, these are better! The shrimp and scallops were also very good, and were decent sized, especially the shrimp. The haddock was good too, but by this time, I was getting full and didn’t really want the haddock anymore. I got a paper bag to take the box to go, because I couldn’t let such delicious food go to waste! Now I just need to resist the urge to have $ 40+ lunches when I’m here!(Not that it’s expensive, but because I want to order three different things every time I’m here!)

Food: 1.) Super roast beef on onion roll — Had it w/fried onions and mayo. Very good, like this a lot. i haven’t had that many roast beef sandwiches before so am not the best judge but I enjoyed it a lot. The beef was moist and not tough. Easy to bit into and flavorful 2.) Super pastrami on onion roll — Pretty large size and very good. It’s not as stringy with fat as other places. This one had a very good portion in the roll and love the flavor. 3.) large clam strip box — Can’t really go wrong with fried clam strips. This place gives a good portion for $ 12. 4:) Tarter sauce is key. Very good, thick with good sized chunks of pickles. Definitely worth a try. Ambiance/environment: 1.) Casual settings, 6 – 8 tables seating 4. Mostly a take out place with the lines. Small flat screen wall mounted for diners. Two cashiers up front that will repeat your order to make sure it’s correct.
