Food and staff were great. Food was fresh and delicious. Great hole in the wall sandwich place!

I moved back to the area a month ago and went to try this place 5 times and it was always closed during business hours, leaving me a bit ticked off. I later find out from locals, that there was a death in the family and there is a new owner (same family though). I stopped by yesterday and it was open and for $ 10, I was filled for the entire day… I got the steak and cheese and it was incredible: lots of high quality sirloin steak and lots of cheese on a quality roll, and the small fries were insanely huge and tasty. Staff is incredibly nice and accommodating. The only bad thing I can say is that they are only open until about 6 pm every night, but they do open very early too. Can’t wait to go back!

Why have I not tried Rondo’s sooner??? Had the steak and cheese and added onions on… was fantastic. The bread is fresh and does not overwhelm the sandwich and generous servings of the steak filling. The large is really big but would say go for it as left overs are just as good later that day! It’s CASH ONLY but they have an ATM inside the shop.

A true locals spot, with an authentic old Boston feel. Nothing fancy here, just the best burgers and steak and cheese in Boston. The prices are great and so is the service. Call ahead if your picking up during lunch time. Place is a throwback and a gem!

Got a steak and cheese on Tuesday and obviously different cook or meat it was terrible! I hope this was a fluke?

Best cheese steak in Boston, believe the hype… you can’t really go wrong with anything though.

Best steak and cheese I’ve ever had. The prices are reasonable and the portions are substantial.

Had Rondo’s for the first time this weekend after living down the street for 9months and I wish I had tried it sooner. We got a Buffalo Chicken and a Steak Combo sub. Both were fully packed and made fresh right there. Bread was fresh and not overwhelming. Toppings also clearly fresh.
It’s a sub shop so you can’t expect too much décor etc. great local sandwich shop.

Fantastic Boston experience. Went in and ordered a grilled chicken sub. Nice guy behind the counter tries to explain they are out of chicken, but it was tough because his English isn’t great, which is a good sign at restaurants. I get a steak and cheese, and ask for hot peppers. A hilarious 5 minute conversation ensues and I still am not sure whether he was TELLING me the peppers are too hot, or ASKING me whether I like spicy food. In any case, the hot peppers were great, the steak and cheese was great, and the sandwich maker was fantastic. Will definitely be back.

Love you Rondo. Great food for many years! My favorite is the the cheeseburger sub. But everything is tasty!

Great food made in a very clean establishment. Its a family business that they run and they all work together in harmony.

Every sandwich is great but my favorite is the steak and cheese. …wait the tuna is absolutely fantastic. …now that i think of it try the Italian. …I’m telling you its the best you can taste every piece of flavor in the sandwich.

Why haven’t I reviewed this place after my first visit, this place is phenomenal! Beware this place looks like it’s closed but that must be to deter the massive crowds that would circle if world really got out about how great this place is. The steak and cheese bomb (has mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers) is mouth watering deliciousness covered in melting cheese and steaming with flavor. I add extra hots because I love the spice. The people are quick, Boston guys who make great food. I would recommend getting a large because while even the small is huge, pretty sure its a pound, for a dollar more you get twice the size.

This place is the BEST!!! Today I am actually leaving work and leaving a beloved resident parking spot to get Tuna subs for the office because once you start talking about them, there is no rest until you satisfy that craving. The staff is amazing. Denise is so entirely sweet she makes me smile for an entire day! Rock on, Rondo’s!!! (only wish you were open on Sundays)

Love this place!!! So glad I found this nice mom n’ pop sub shop down in south Boston, it is definitely one of Boston’s hidden gems. Their steak and egg sandwiches are so delicious and always filled with a ton of meat. Just load it up with hots, onions, mushrooms, cheese and you’re good to go. Price is very good for the size of sub you get, as the large subs are HUGE and will still run you less than $ 10.

Third time in this cozy southie spot. Got the pepper steak with cheese. Prety good, lots of meat and much better than subway down the street. Odd that I still had to add lots of salt and pepper even though the chef asked if I wanted my seasoned (I said yes).
Only two qualms. First, cheese is extra (50 cents?) on my pepper steak. Kinda expect to be part of the steak & pepper sub. Maybe it’s just me ~(^.^~) ~(^.^)~ (~^.^)~
Second, hygiene practices is iffy. Same gloves used for cooking and handling money… if you can get over that, the food is delicious.
Will probably be back because it’s so close

OMG!!! best steak and cheese sub!
This place beats Philly cheesesteaks I had from Philly and the sandwiches I had in and out-​of-​town. It’s the shredded steak and the mushrooms were soft not squishy and oh so yummy.
I saw Nick F.‘s review and for some reason just ordered his concoction of a steak and cheese he reviewed on 11– 25 –13 (I am usually plain and order steak cheese with just lettuce and mayo but today I wanted to be daring and try to eat it like one of my fellow Unilocalers!) and dayummmm it was just so delicious. Thank you Nick F. you know your stuff! I ordered a medium steak combo with mayo and pickles but the hots on the side *asked to toast the bread* and ooh mahh gosh I never want to finish a whole sub at one sitting because I rarely eat ’til it hurts… but this place makes their steak combo so gooood… I ate it all up… and it hurt!!! idc. no regrets.
Btw Denise behind the cashier was totally sweet and she’s def a face that’ll give u smile when you walk in!

Although Rondo’s storefront evokes either a shady liquor store or a run down bodega, its interior holds the locus for classic hot grinders.
Winners include the steak and peppers (don’t forget to add cheese!), and hot pastrami sandwiches (if sodium isn’t a concern). All sandwiches are improved by the hot pepper spread, which can be added liberally, or on the side.
Find a place to sit and eat (though this may be difficult given limited seating in house); putting down a Rondo’s sub cleanly while driving is a fool’s errand.
