Lived by this place for about 8 months and tried it for the first time today. Food is delicious — I had a roast beef with lettuce, tomatoes, chipotle mayo, pepper jack… I think that’s it… on a deli bread. It’s not regular chipotle mayo, it’s just awesome. The place is cozy too, there are a few chairs by the bar and most people who came in did takeout. Highly recommend trying this place!

I can’t imagine giving this place less than 5 stars. It’s all so good. It’s in a small, but cozy, basement and the food is incredible. I got the terrier and it blew my mind! My wife’s sandwich was also crazy good. Great for takeout and they have enough space if you wanna stay and eat there. Tip: here is some street Peking in the area, just check the signs!

Roast beast do one thing: meat sandwiches and they do it really well. I went there to eat for the first time today and it was fabulous. Absolutely extraordinary food. I ordered a large sandwich with Chipotle chicken, 2 slices of cheese, banana peppers, pickles and onions(sauted) with Tiger sauce and barbecue sauce. Got an utz barbecue chips and a Nantucket juice. The sandwich was packed with a good amount of meat. And it was packed in a way such that not a lot of the meat slipped out. It was great! The interior of the restaurant is cute, simple and just right. Highly recommend.

Tucked away in a little corner, this sandwich shop serves up some serious beef. I was always hesitant to go in because I wasn’t sure what I would be getting into, but now I won’t shut up about the place. Everything is amazing, you really can’t screw it up. You choose the size of sandwich, then from a huge list of cheeses and creative sauces to slather on your meat. Throw on some onions and pickles and you are ready to go. Finally, eat all the meat.

I perhaps have never enjoyed a sandwich so thoroughly. The mega lasts two meals for me(note that the only difference in sizes is how much meat they cram between the bread). I like to create my own roast beef sandwich, with various combos of cheeses and toppings – but I always get the thermonuclear sauce. Docked a star because a couple of times, they were closed during their stated hours.

It’s just off the Greenline. Keep an eye out. You could miss it because its a small place but its sign is «loud» enough to help you spot it. I was looking for some quick take out when I found this place online. It’s pretty much a build you own sandwich place but they do have specialty sandwiches as well. Everything sounded delicious and pictures looked good so it was hard to decide. They don’t list their specialty sandwiches onkine, but when I walked in, I immediately saw they had small chalkboards on the sounder with them listed on. I went with a regular size The Terrier. If you like roast beef, onions, and onion rolls, just get it. There are two or three sauces on it but can’t remember at the moment. One of them for sure is the secret sauce. The onion roll is perfect too!

Really good sandwiches with a good amount of variety in terms of toppings and sauces. Pretty cheap, too. I had a roast beef sandwich on an onion roll, and they really don’t skimp on the meat! Great, friendly, service, too

For you heat seeking, crazy masochistic spice fiends chasing the next burn for your tongue and bowels, come here for the Thermonuclear sauce. To those of you who say this king of hot sauces only tickles your taste buds — I take my imaginary hat off to you. For us regular folk who enjoy spicy, the sauce is initially pleasant and benign, tricking you into another bite and then bam! INFERNO. Yea it’s super hot but I can’t help getting it every single time! The Thermonuclear is no plain jane hot sauce — it’s got a nice bbq ish flavor too! My first ever sandwich here was the Ianwich, made in the afternoon, and made with love. Every bite was heavenly! Subsequent sandwiches were great, too, but the Ianwich remains my fave. There’s one with a lot of horseradish in it, and I suggest you get it if you’re a lover of this stuff — super tasty. Sam 5 and King Richard are solid choices, too. Once had to sub spicy pickles because they ran out of onion at the end of the day and was sad I hadn’t ordered more spicy pickles for my sandwiches sooner. Get both. They’re awesome. I would suggest trying to go in the afternoon — not sure which crew is there nowadays but lately I’ve been going on weekends and at night and the sandwiches aren’t as tasty as when the guy who looks like the captain of the place(average height white dude, I know, not very descriptive) is there. Basically if there are only college kids manning the place, the sandwiches will still taste good but not as great. Based on several experiences. Sandwiches are based off the portion size you order, which works out for me — regular size is perfect and more than filling. Regular priced at $ 7. The sandwich as a standalone is great with or without chips. The space makes you smell like roast beef and onions, make what you will of that. Street parking is usually available and it’s conveniently located next to the T on Comm Ave. I don’t eat a lot of red meat anymore, but I totally save my cheats for Roast Beast. And if you’re looking for a thrill, nothing like Thermonuclear sauce to make you feel alive again!

The Terrier was delicious! I was very impressed with my sandwich. I ordered it with a side of spicy pickles and a side of Thermonuclear sauce. The sauce was super spicy! My mouth was on fire for a bit there. I recommend ordering ahead. We had to wait 30+ mins for our sandwich.

Good Bye Kelly’s, Hello Roast Beast! There’s no better location to get a roast beef sandwich than Roast Beast. It’s fast and easy. Pick a size, roll, and your favorite toppings. They also have a a number of customer favorites listed on the chalk board. My go-to is the ianwich. It’s a roast beef sandwich on an onion roll with cheese, grilled onions, and beast sauce. Everything is made fresh and the staff there is awesome. Make sure you check out Roast Beast!

One of the best Roast Beef Sandwiches I have ever had. Bar none. My friend told me to try this place out and I was able to make it my last meal before leaving Boston. The place is small, as this place doesn’t really have any booth and basically has stools and a bar for you to eat from. There is a lot of sandwiches to choose from, but the cashier recommended that since it was my first time, I should try the Ian Sandwich. The portion size is pretty good. I was barely able to finish after a long day of walking around Boston. The sauce in the sandwich and the spicy pickles really stood out to me. The spicy pickle had a small kick, but was surprisingly sweet. It really stood out to me. The bread went well with the sandwich. The service was pretty good. The people working there were helpful and my sandwich was finished pretty quickly. I was glad to make this my last meal for my stay in Boston. I will definitely come back and try this place again the next time I visit.

awesome roast beef sandwiches. i know people complain about the price, but in reality the small is more than enough food for me and can even last two meals, even when i’m starving. I wasn’t sure what sauce I wanted, and they let me sample a few before I put in my order. the spicy pickles are a definite must. the roast beef is really good, not too dry and I thought the bread was a great ratio for the overall sandwich. it’s not the fastest to-go restaurant but the food is definitely worth the wait.

Quick, simple food for a good price. The sandwiches are a good size and really good. I love that you can create your own and they’re always so quick. Roast beef is so good!

Loved this place! PROS: Friendly staff. An awesome Boar’s Head Roast Beef sandwich on a grilled Onion roll, with grilled onion and spicy pickles… and special beast sauce. They also offer some other cold cut choices, like Turkey… but come on, it’s ROASTBEAST. If you’re getting the Turkey, I don’t think you should be allowed to write a review. Looking forward to trying more of their sauces. CONS: The place is tiny, with limited seating. :( OVERALL: This is a MUST hit spot for me. I love rare roast beef and Boar’s Head cold cuts.

So, I wanted to eat here pretty much just because these guys were rated so highly on Unilocal. We tried to go on the Friday before the 4th of July but they were closed. I had previously looked online and everywhere to make sure they were open and there were no signs saying they were closed or would be closed. We got there 15 minutes before they opened to wait and I was sooo disappointed when they didn’t open or have any signs indicating they weren’t going to open. I left town to go on some other vacation adventures and made it back to Boston a few days later. I had a small layover before my flight out and had to try to eat here again. When I got inside I was thrilled! I Ordered 3 sandwiches just so I could try as much as possible which was sort of a bad idea as there’s no way any human being could eat three of these. I had one of the Turkey sandwiches and two roast beef sandwiches and got a variety of sauces on the side. I felt like I got a taste of the whole spread of options and here and I can honestly say I’ve never had a better roast beef sandwich. My favorite sauce was the ghost pepper sauce, it was so good I cried the entire time I ate the sandwich I covered in it. The pickles here are great too definitely don’t pass those up! The guys who run this shop are amazingly friendly and love to talk about their food and you cant help but feel the passion they have for their products. They also sell Simpson Sodas which are absolutely amazing! I cant say enough good things about roast beast. The food is so good that I completely forgot about that whole not being open and not telling anyone about it thing. If you are in Boston make the trip out here for a sandwich, its totally worth it!

The beef is over the counter Boars Head on a Shaw’s roll. The«mega» is a moderately large sandwich that would be completely forgettable except for the beast sauce, which lends a bit of zing to the hapless affair. The beast sauce is a combo of sweet baby Ray’s and crushed red pepper. Honestly, the store is so cute and seemingly special it draws you in, bit I just can’t let it go unsaid, $ 12 for a sandwich(no chips or drink) is a ripoff. It is basically what you could assemble from Shaw’s(literally across the street) for about $ 3 with assembly required. The staff is amazingly nice and helpful, but that can only go so far when the thing you buy is such a bad deal…

Have you ever bit into something and thought … Damn! This just changed my life?! Well I have. It happened at Roast Beast … how did it change my life you ask? Well I can promise you that I will never ever look at a Roast Beef sandwich ever again and think meh. I have never been a huge fan of roast beef and when I think about it I think Arby’s … well this is nothing like that … I promise. The spot is a little basement on Commonwealth Ave between Allston and Fenway Park. It is easy to miss but it sits on a corner and it painted white with a big arrow pointing down at the door. When you walk in you will find a counter, 2 or 3 friends and a bar for seating for about 6 people and that is it. The guys working could tell we were excited to be there and we told them where we were from and what we were doing. They told us they were just friends that had and idea and started doing what they loved. I could tell they had so much love for the place. I ordered the Large Sam 5. They have 3 different bun options — deli, onion or wheat roll and 3 different sandwich sizes — regular, large and mega. They have about 10 different in-house made sauces, plus toppings and different cheeses to choose from too. There are also about 8 – 10 different sandwich combinations to choose from or you can build your own. All the ingredients were high quality and fresh. When I bit into my sandwich it was exploding with flavor. I could also taste all the ingredients — onion roll, sauce, roast beef, cheese … deliciousness! Steve H ordered a couple of sandwiches so I also got to taste one of their turkey sandwiches too. It was all to amazing and to die for! I don’t think I have ever had sandwiches like this and to this quality! If you are in Boston you should come here or if you are visiting Boston like I was I would definitely recommend stopping in here for a life changing moment like I had! This place should be a priority stop!

Tenderness of the roast beef with the Beast sauce is nice. It goes well with the swiss cheese.

If you are looking for a legit roast beef sandwich shop in Boston, look no further. You need to check this place out. Don’t judge a book by its cover right? From the outside, this place might appear as some shady sandwich shop located down in the basement, but do not be fooled. This place is serious about their sandwiches and you can tell by the way they taste. They are simply amazing. I usually stick with their roast beef but feel free to venture out and try out their different meats. This is not for the weak minded. Be prepared to get your hands dirty and messy. Your sandwich is going to overflow with amazing sauces and different sorts of toppings that you can imagine Make sure to ask for their Secret Beast Sauce. I do not know what is in it but I am 99.99% sure it is something illegal because there is just no way it can taste that good without having some illegal substance in it.

Went here to grab a quick bite to eat since it is close to my work. Though I am not really a roast beef guy, I had to order the medium roast beef on an onion roll with spicy pickles and a mix of chipotle mayo and roast beast sauce. The sandwich only took a couple of minutes to come out and it was a decent size(which was good since it cost over $ 10). The pickles and sauce and bun really helped to compliment the roast beef and provided a nice bite. Though I enjoyed the flavors, I would have preferred to have it served warm. It was also a bit on the pricey side for what I was expecting from a divey sort of place. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my sandwich and it was very speedy – good spot to grab a quick bite.
