Sadly, it seems Rico’s has closed. I went there about a month ago and there was only 1 person working, the sub was not up to their usual standards, there were no chips or anything. I’ve gone by there a couple of times since then as I work nearby and although the sign says«open,» the doors were locked and it was totally dark inside. Not sure what happened, but I’ll miss this place.

What a wonderful place to have a «Pie» the staff is always smiling and will make sure to adjust to your request even last minute. The flavor or just the cheese is something that me and my kids cannot get enough of. Keep up the great work looking forward to our next visit.

Seems like a one-man show these days. Stopped in for the first time at lunch and only the owner was working, with a sign on the door stating«Pizza and Salad only — no staff». My slice of cheese was good-not-great, and the fountain machine was broken except for the diet pepsi. I will give credit to the décor, with tons of serviceable seating as seen in one of the pictures on this page. Overall, no real reason for me to come back, but I might check back in in a month or so to see if the situation has improved — and certainly disregard the ‘pizza and salad only’ warning if more recent reviews suggest it’s no longer a problem.

Not sure what happen here but Rico’s has gone downhill fast. Both service and quality of food has declined rapidly in the past few months while prices have risen. This used to be my go to spot for a slice of pizza downtown. I went in today and was given was appeared to be frozen pizza under a heat lamp loaded with processed cheese and sodium. Slice was about half the size of what is used to be as well. Sad I need to find a new place for lunch.

We love Pizzeria Rico! I’ve been ordering pizza and salad from them for the office and everyone loves it! We order 18 pizzas and usually 2 salads. Everything arrives on time, the pizza is hot and the salad is cold(sometimes when you order pizza and salad together that isn’t the case!). Everyone’s favorite is definitely the mac and cheese pizza! Definitely give Pizzeria Rico a try!

I’ve been coming here for years to enjoy some of the best pizza in Boston outside of the North End. While I generally get the pizza, I sometimes stray and get an Italian Sub(its a real Italian sub) or one of their lunch/diiner meals like the mac and cheese. The pizza slices are big with one slice being the size of 2 normal slices at other places. This is pretty tranditional of new york style pizza joints so if you’ve never been, be aware of that before asking for 2 or more slices! Why only 4 stars? Well, I’ve noticed a change recently in their food. I can’t quite place it but it started a few months ago. it still tastes the same but it is different. Almost like someone following your mother’s recipe on something but it just isn’t 100% the same. It’s possible that their is a new owner as I haven’t seen«Rico» around in the back room lately. Not sure. Maybe Rico retired and sold his recipes to someone else. Whatever is causing it, it isn’t enough to make me stop going there but hopefully they start to take as much care and pride in making food as they did in the past.

Never had a bad meal here. Their pizza slices are huge and not greasy at all. The eggplant parm subs are delicious also. And there is plenty of seating at lunch time which is unusual for downtown Boston.

I have not got a bad word to say about the place. I work just next door and the staff are really really friendly. Just today I went in for a slice of pizza on my break and firstly the guy had remembered me from when I spoke to him briefly before and secondly when I had to run back into the shop because it was so busy he offered to make it to go for me and drop it in to the shop. And when I finally got to eat the pizza I saw he threw in another slice! What a nice guy! I really appreciate the great service I got there. As for their pizza? Well the slices are well worth the value. Always tasty and filling with loads of different choices. One of the best Italian places I’ve been to in Boston. A hidden gem!

Great for their $ 5 cold sub lunch special. They’re quick and it beats going to a chain place or one of the overpriced sandwich alternatives nearby.

This is an excellent little pizza shop that serves wide slices of delicious New York-style pizza. This is in the downtown section of Boston, across from the Capitol and off of Tremont street. For any pizza fan, you should absolutely give this place a try. The inside is nice, there’s nothing special to it, and the service is pretty cut and dry. Everything is centered around just getting a good pizza to you. Great little place.

I started coming to Pizzeria Rico while working temporarily at a business on the same street. It’s a solid little place — one pizza slice is a quarter of a pie, they’ve got lots of drinks(including multiple types of diet soda — always a plus) and really friendly service. It’s a family-run business, which is always nice to see, and the owner is sweet. There is lots of seating too. I enjoy grabbing a slice and reading for a bit before I head back to work. I’m a big fan of the pizza. It’s always hot and delicious. The subs run the gamut — the sauce that they use for the subs is too sweet for my taste, so I tend to avoid them. The other subs I have tried are nothing special. This is not the fanciest food you’ll find in Boston, but Pizzeria Rico is a respectable lunch spot in the heart of Downtown.

Hard to say why I’ve never made it to Pizzeria Rico during my two year stead working in their neighborhood. Nonetheless, today was my first visit, and I loved it. I was feeling especially hangry about patriarchal and personal discourses on weight, and the sight of their cute little kitchen lady statue outside the door cheered me up immediately. Pizzeria Rico is much bigger inside than I’d expected, with plenty of seating. Although there was no lack for customers when I went, the restaurant seemed quiet, which is always a welcome respite from places where you have to yell to be heard. No fancy convoluted culinary tomfoolery to wade through here – their menu is direct and refreshing. If you’ve ever had a nonna(Italian for grandmother) in your life, the food here may well remind you of plates you ate in her kitchen. It certainly did for me. The spaghetti marinara was the perfect comfort food on a cold day, and the all-beef meatballs were beyond delicious. Perfect homestyle meal on a snowy Friday like this one. Recap: I was feeling really angry about the influence of hegemonic eating norms on my life, and then I ate some spaghetti and meatballs and felt a lot of better.

I came by for lunch with a friend today and I can only say two good things about this place: 1) pizza portions are huge(quarter of a pie = 1 slice) and 2) it’s very clean for a «cafeteria» style location. These things aside, their broccoli and chicken ziti was below mediocre. It was cold, soupy, and had the taste of the cutting board. Also, the fountain drink were limited and tasted OLD, if that’s possible. I had the chance to take a peak into the kitchen and it was absolutely empty in terms of activities, even though it was 1pm. I don’t know if I’ll come back, but the pizza looked okay so I might go and try their pizza, but never again will I have their pasta.

I just had probably the worst chicken parm sub I’ve ever had here. Barely lukewarm, no sauce, tasteless, dry chicken. When I saw them preparing it, I knew I was in trouble. :(On top of it all, it cost $ 7.50! Even the Sbarro in Kendall Square was better. I’ve been avoiding this place, but will more than likely never return. Bleechchhhh! There are many, many better options in the area(like Sam LaGrassa’s/Pedro’s, even Boloco), I suggest you check them out.

I went here with a coworker to grab a quick bite because he recommended Rico’s for their super huge slices and low prices. I knew going in that this isn’t about quality but quantity. I believe it was $ 3 for a HUGE slice of pizza. The owner was super nice and was friendly the entire time so service gets 4 stars. Unfortunately, the pizza was bland, mushy and just not good(and I’ve never had bad pizza) so the food gets a one star. If you’re looking for a cheap eat in downtown, go elsewhere.

Every time I go in this place, I like it more. At lunchtime, Rico himself is usually manning the cash register, with a woman I take to be his wife leading the friendly staff in getting your food. They have $ 2.50 pre-made calzones at lunchtime that are gone by 12:30 and GIANT slices of pizza(generally a quarter of the pie) for only a little more. The meat toppings are succulent and subtly spicy, and the veggies are juicy. And the more traditional dishes are even good; try the mac & cheese if it’s your thing. Whey I say they’re friendly, I’m not kidding, either. When my whole office went in and almost cleaned out their calzone suppy, Mrs. Rico offered, «you know, if you give us a call earlier in the day, we’ll make some extras just for you!» And she recognizes us when we walk in the door now, too! Her«calzone people.» In my reckoning of lunch venues, the most important considerations for me are location, taste, and price. Rico’s wins on all counts. AND they do it in style.

The pizza is tasty, and the slices are huge, but they are usually flimsy and thin. The main attraction for me is the mac and cheese. I get it every Friday that I have time.

The $ 2.50 premade calzones are the way to go! They usually have like 2 different varieties each day and you gotta get there early cause they go fast. The slices of pizza are huge and pretty decent for the Boston-area too(coming from me, the NJ-raised, self-professed pizza snob). Had the $ 5 Italian sub once too, which was a great value. Pretty standard as far as subs go though, could have used a little more meat. Bottom line, good cheap pizzeria in the Downtown Crossing area.
