It is important for our children to be exposed many different cultures, ethnicities and ways of being because the world is not black and white; it is a world of all the colors of the rainbow and we need to be, at the very least, aware of it. We do our shopping for Multicultural Book at Multicultural Book World because the books are reasonable, and often times cheaper than the huge bookstore chains; they have a good variety for a small bookshop; we love supporting local businesses in our community(I should say I, the kids are still learning :)). Take a trip to Roxbury and pay a visit to this little gem of a bookshop.

I’ve done all my ordering from the Multicultural Book Store via phone. I went into the store on Saturday and realized how much I’ve been missing! This is a full-service bookstore AND it has the largest selection of Black books(of all genres, including children’s and YA, urban, political, educational, and much more) that I’ve seen since leaving Philly. Plus, if the owner, Leonard Egerton, doesn’t have the book in stock, he can get it within 3 – 5 days. If you have younger readers(i.e. I have a nephew who is 8 and is reading chapter books), this is the place you can go because the books are in stock that kids read. No having to ask about selection. Additionally, Leonard knows the books, so if you have someone in mind but don’t know a title, he can point you to appropriate books. Can’t say enough about the need to support our locally owned neighborhood bookstores. Multicultural Book World fulfills such a need and it’s INTHECOMMUNITY! What better way to support a good thing? P. S. The parking lot is frustrating, but a little patience will pay off… eventually.
