I cannot express how amazing my experience with Dr. McDevitt and her office was! As someone irrationally anxious about the dentist with a history of bad dentist experiences, I was nervous going into my appointment for a routine cleaning. Her hygienist, Marjorie, immediately put me at ease and was by far the best hygienist I have ever had. She was not only super kind and friendly, but very gentle and reassuring. When Dr. McDevitt came in she was calm and friendly, but very professional. She even recommended a more conservative course of treatment to try first, which I really appreciated.
To top it all off, Dr. McDevitt actually took the time to write me a handwritten thank you note for choosing her office as a new patient. I am so happy that I found this office and couldn’t recommend Dr. McDevitt and Marjorie more!

Dr. McDevitt is excellent. I made an appointment with her to get a second opinion about treatment for a broken tooth. She and her staff put me at ease and explained what was happening at every step of the visit. After an initial examination and X-​rays, she was able to suggest a conservative, yet appropriate course of treatment. She was able to complete the procedure during the same appointment. I was very satisfied with the entire experience and will continue to see her as my regular dentist. She has a very confident and relaxing manner and I would highly recommend her for anyone seeking a dentist in the Back Bay

I have been seeing Dr McDevitt for almost 10 years and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a dentist in the Boston area! As others have commented, her professionalism, demeanor and quality of the work is what makes her so great and is why I continue to see her 2x a year for cleanings even though I no longer live in the city.

Dr. McDevitt is the best! I’ve been seeing her since I moved here 8 years ago. I was so lucky she was recommended to me — I will never switch dentists as long as I live in Boston. She is super sweet, calm, and remembers who you are. I’ve had one cavity since I’ve been seeing her and she was very gentle in her work.
One of my favorite things about her is that she is conservative with the work she recommends. My husband (then boyfriend) was about to get 2 crowns and a filling with his crazy expensive dentist in San Francisco — several grand of work, even with insurance. Since he was about to move to Boston, I told him to wait til he could get a second opinion from Dr. McDevitt. She got him out with two fillings. That was 4 years ago and he’s had no problems since. So much pain and suffering (and money) saved!
I also love her hygienist Marjorie — you’re lucky if you get her :)

Dr. McDevitt was great. I hadn’t been to the dentist in 6 years and was terrified to go, in fear of getting bad news and also getting the usual lecture. Dr. McDevitt was warm, kind and down-​to-​earth. She was very thorough and gentle and by no means gave me a hard time about not seeing a dentist for so long. She is very personable and cares very much for her patients. I am actually looking forward to going back!

My wife and I are here for a 3 month stay from California. Last week while eating lunch part of an old filling came out. I looked up to find a local dentist in the Back Bay area and decided to go to Dr. McDevitt. I am so glad that I did. Dr McDevitt and her entire staff were wonderful and made me feel comfortable right away. Dr McDevitt took a couple of x-​rays, located the problem area and fixed it with no pain. I was in and done in 45 minutes. My wife and I are planning to split our time between Southern California and Boston, and I’m so happy that we found our dentist.
If you need a great dentist, give Dr. McDevitt a call. You won’t regret it.

I have been going to Dr. McDevitt for years. She is friendly and thorough, and I never feel rushed in and out. Recently, I had a cracked tooth and she saw me right away. She got me to an endodontist that morning for the needed root canal. Can’t say enough about her — if you are looking for a great dentist, she is it. (Right in the T, too)

I recently moved to Boston, needed a dentist, decided to trust Unilocal reviews and am very glad I did! I just had my first appointment with Marilyn and enjoyed her company as well as the office experience. Their new place had a friendly front desk greeter, helpful women at reception, and a great location. She is gentle and professional. Great overall first experience, and am definitely not cringing at the thought of my next appointment!

I’ve been going to see Marilyn since I was three years old, and I would never dream of going anywhere else. She is extremely personable and a wonderful dentist. She has fixed all of my cavities and not one of them hurt at all. Quick, easy, and painless. My whole family goes to Marilyn. I don’t know what I will do when I move away!
The woman at the front desk is just as great, and all the dental hygienists know me by name even though they only see me probably once a year.

The best dentist and dental office I’ve ever been to. Dr. McDevitt is talented, caring, and funny. What’s not to love? I’ve recommended her to many friends and they all love her.

A local girl from Hyde Park, Dr. McDevitt is simply awesome. Her competence and conscientious chair-​side manner are immediately apparent and reassuring. This was the best experience I have ever had at a dentist. Highly recommended.

Dr McDevitt IS great; I’ve been going to her for a long time and she has done a fantastic job bonding a tooth that has been a nightmare for years. Someone else did the job 10+ years before, and I felt as though everytime I smiled, everyone could tell right away that I had a bad tooth job right up front! She is very friendly, the office is nice and you can look out the window and watch the world go by while getting your teeth worked on.
The woman who answers the phones at the office is a little flaky, so reconfirm your appointment’s date/​time before you hang up!

Let’s just say that when you put off going to the dentist and then have to go to a new dentist because your old one was both:
a) in a different state
b) a total hack monster
that you want someone as gentle, funny, and gifted as Dr. McDevitt.
I’m serious here. I REALLY needed to go to the dentist and I put it off until literally there was no way I could put it off anymore.
Things I did to try and NOT go to the dentist:
1) went and got haircut (see review of Miss Laura’s…)
2) went to doctor hoping it was a sinus infection (bingo — yes! but also noooo… it was also my infected rotting tooth… deep sigh)
3)learned to swish cold water in my mouth a certain way why riding the T to diminish deep intense pain
4)the other things are too embarrassing.
I am not someone who writes «rotting tooth» publicly about myself in a casual way, because seriously, that makes me sound like a hobo, and who really wants to kiss a hobo?
I just REALLY had a HORRIBLE experience years ago getting a root canal and kind of made a point to NEVER GO TO THE DENTIST UNTIL MY MOUTH WAS FALLING APART.
Which last week it was apparently, and Dr. McDevitt was quite loving throughout my hellacious panic attack, complete with tears and hyperventilation (no joke! who knew?! hooray first impressions…)
and referred me to a fantastic oral surgeon for an emergency root canal (see next review… yes…).
That’s right. I had to have AN EMERGENCY ROOT CANAL last week.
«Do you want to go dancing and be really happy or have a root canal?»
Apparently last week I choose «ROOT CANAL».
My mother pointed out that children in the orphanage she visits in Haiti occasionally die when the infection in their teeth travels up into their brain.
Let this be a lesson to you to get to Dr. McDevitt sooner rather than later.
She (McDevitt) is a dentist you can trust your fear-​laden non-​dentistry loving «wish I were dancing» self to.
GO FOR IT!
