Learning Project Elementary School

Founded and headmastered by progressive thinker Michael McCord, the LP is a tiny (average 17 kids per grade) elementary school named for its intention that children learn through projects (experience) and not just books. The LP runs from first to sixth grade, sending most of its students to either Boston Latin or various independent schools, so clearly the academics are up to snuff. Michael is quite selective with his teachers, making sure that they are not only adept at imparting knowledge, but are good people and good with children. Honestly, during my three years there it felt more like a large, loosely connected family than an academic environment. Appropriately, the LP welcomes challenging students with open arms and is truly a wonderful place. Also, if you were a student there and you ever go back to see Michael, not only will he remember every moment of your career there, but seeing one of his old charges will be the highlight of his day because of his unparalleled love for and commitment to his students. Good, unique place.
