One of the things that originally drew me to In Season was that they actually allow you to choose the items you want. I find this so much more useful and functional than receiving a weekly mystery box of fruits and vegetables that I quite possibly don’t have any interest in. After all, a girl can only eat so many apples and bean sprouts… The products available for purchase include dairy, fresh pastas, fruits, vegetables, meats, bread, and more. Your delivery date is based on your location. For instance, I live in Cambridge, so my food arrived Tuesday morning bright and early(before 8:00AM). I was beyond happy with the presentation of my order. The delivery person placed all of my perishable items in the cooler I set out in our lobby, and my other items were neatly packed in brown paper bags. All of the produce was clean and attractive(even the potatoes were tidy), and not a single egg was broken. I point this out because PeaPod always breaks my eggs and it drives me crazy. In Season is a bit pricey, but no more so than Whole Foods. My only true quibble with the service was that the meat comes frozen. I guess I was expecting brown paper packages tied up with string and a hand delivery by Julie Andrews, but let’s be realistic, the majority of the fresh meat I buy ends up in the freezer anyway. I doubt I’ll be utilizing this service every week, but I want to stress again that the quality of these products is phenomenal and I definitely envision having a delivery from time to time.

I love this service! It is a great addition to Salem and the surrounding areas and I am glad to see Chris expanding his service to other communities like Slumerville oops I mean somerville and Cambridge. I have gotten milk, cheese, veggies, fruits and the pasta from here and it is all so fresh and great!

I am really excited about this service. In Season, to me, represents some real change in the way that people are thinking about feeding themselves. I have been aware of the development of the service, and so impressed with how quickly it has caught on. And frankly, I couldn’t be more pleased. This is top notch, local, seasonal foods, being brought directly to your door in a sustainable way Win win! Seriously, sign up, you will be so happy you did!

i can’t agree more with the other reviewers on in season. phenomenol service, and a wonderful selection of produce, proteins, sauces, and dairy products. we ordered heirloom tomatoes(kimball fruit farm in pepperell, ma), a hanger steak(Sunset Acres Farm & Dairy in Brooksville, ME), hannabell cheeses(shy brother’s farm in westport, ma), and non-homogenized whole milk(shaw farm in dracut, ma). everything was«in season»… oh ho ho. definitely will order again from this service. as a side note, they are now trying out a home delivery service, as opposed to the pickup location at pampelmousse. there will be a delivery service fee, but i think it is worth it. not sure what single digit dollars is worth to you, but the other option is driving all over new england. do the math, economists!

Tuesday morning. Early. Still slightly drunk from DNC-watching-Monday-night-wine-drinking. The clock says 5:15. Boo. I try to go back to bed. Slowly drifting back to sleep after downing a glass of water when the light on my porch turns on and I hear someone/thing on my porch. I immediately go Mrs. Brady on my husband and try to wake him up. Kirs: **forced whisper** Alex! Alex: Grumphshushnmf Kirs: **pushing him now** Alex! Alex: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Then, the doorbell rings. What the fuck? Robbers/rapists/murderers don’t ring the doorbell! I wait a few minutes and then I hear a bicycle taking off down the road. Oh! Duh. My delivery is here! Thursday I had placed an online order with In Season. They promise my goodies will be on my porch, lovingly hand delivered via bicycle courier, before 7:30 in the morning. I go out and grab my bag of goodies. Fresh blueberries, raspberries, heirloom tomatoes, fingerling potatoes, fresh pasta and a hunk of locally made cheddar. Fabulous. Sure beats finding a serial killer on your porch at 5:30 in the a.m. The important details if you are lucky enough to live in their delivery zone(JP, Brookline, Somerville and Camridge. Suck it, Boston!): Place your order online before Friday night. Select from a small, but nice, selection of fruits, veggies, cheese, dairy, fresh pasta and even meat. Wake up on Tuesday morning with something to look forward to. It’s all locally grown and made products. And delivered by bicycle. What a nice and easy way to lower your carbon footprint.

I am so thankful that this service is available in Salem! It is a great way to get very fresh and local food every week without having to subscribe to a CSA. It’s hard to describe because there is nothing like it but check out he website( ) and enjoy really fresh fruits, veggies, dairy, breads and other treats out of a big white truck. I highly recommend the pesto and the eggs! I get so excited on delivery day(when I don’t forget)!
