This place changed my mind about chicken and waffles. I’ve always passed over chicken and waffles in the past because I felt like the combination was too dry. Fortunately, the Granary Tavern’s honey butter + syrup made the plate sweet and savory. It was much sweeter than I expected and the chicken had a nice crunch. I’ll definitely keep a lookout in the future. Aim for outdoor seating if you can! The service was a little slow but it is a pretty crowded/touristy restaurant.

The outdoor patio seating was very nice. They had a decent selection of drinks and the menu was a little short on options. The margherita flatbread was very good as was the Granary burger. The bbq nachos were ok. Overall I would probably go here again, but it wasn’t a standout, must return place.

Me and my boyfriend just moved here from Texas and we finally had a day off together, which we haven’t had in months. We had a great day of exploring planned, but first brunch! So scouted out places that are in the area we were starting our day out. I wish I would have scouted a little longer. After reading other reviews of this place, I’ll try to not«beat a dead horse» but, service was terrible, food was cold and poorly done. I could give examples of these things but, again, I see others have had the same experiences. I’m in the service industry and what it boils down to is there is just a blatant lack of caring at this establishment. You can feel it the minute you are not greeted. Or maybe it’s when you wait 10 minutes before having anyone come to your table to get a drink order.(Not exaggerating folks). OR maybe it’s when you get your eggs benny and it’s cold. I dunno. If this place ever gave two s***s about service, quality, and integrity, it was a LONG time ago. It’s sad, this place is in a GREAT spot and has so much potential. Hey Granary owners, the time has come to shut your doors and give someone else a chance to show you how to run a restaurant.

I had high hopes for this place but it disappointed. The service was slow and poor. They had no cups for coffee or tea, which seems ridiculous. They don’t have espresso or any tea other than black. The omelette was beyond disappointing and the hash browns were smelling of bacon which isn’t great if you are vegetarian. Others who got the burger or French toast weren’t as disappointed but I don’t expect us to return. There are many other places in the neighborhood at a similar price point with far better food and service.

My friends and I came here for brunch a couple weeks ago and it was just OK. I ordered the Eggs Benny which was not great and an extremely small portion size. We also got the prosecco and 3 – 4 juices to mix with, which was okay but the waiter wasn’t even sure what kinds of juices they were so we had to guess when we were making our drinks. Although I’ve heard good reviews about Granary Tavern from friends in the past, I do not think I would return. However, I do regret not getting the chicken & waffles I heard they are delicious!

I totally love this place. It’s chill and has good food. Beware, when busy, it can be too loud to have decent convo at your table. Also, sometimes, you’re not greeted when entering, and you CAN wait awhile for the greeter, even when they’re not busy. Hey, there’s a greeter desk. Makes you think you should wait for greeter, but it’s just a trick. So, tip for this place is to just grab a table, then look stupid when they approach with puzzled look. Look puzzled back. It works. Putting all that behind you, the wait is worth it. You will experience good drinks and food to make you forget any initial negatives. Start with a bloody Mary(not overdone w/the often too many ingred) the cauliflower app(warm/spice/sweet/crunch w/cool ranchy dipping sauce). I could go on, but then my co-workers might figure out it is me here.

Came here for lunch after visiting the aquarium with my wife and teenage children. It was perfect. A casual sit down restaurant with present atmosphere. All the food was good. We started with the fried cauliflower appetizer. It was a huge hit. For my meal, I had the fish tacos. While there were only two, but they were surprisingly filling because of the large pieces of fish and avocado. We also had the grilled veggie sandwich, noodle salad and heirloom carrot salad. All delicious. I definitely recommend for lunch.

A friend and I popped in to the Granary Tavern for a post-work dinner and drink. We were seated immediately and ordered a round of cocktails. The waiter accidentally brought me a white sangria rather than red, but realized the blunder and brought me the correct drink without hesitation. I ordered the Steak Frites and was very pleased. The steak was cooked perfectly and paired with hand-cut fries and a fresh arugula salad. I definitely will be returning.

I had lunch last Saturday with my husband. Food was decent. I ordered omelette, and he ordered flatbread. Both were good! But our waitress wasn’t nice, or rather rude… We asked water, but she didn’t bring water.(So a kind receptionist brought a glass of water instead of her) She threw our receipt on the table… I felt so sad…

I have since been back to Granary Tavern several times and have had better luck with the food. The Thai beef noodle salad is good-I’ve had it twice. I love sitting on the outdoor patio and the ambiance is really nice for the restaurant in general.

Granary Tavern, I’m not sure why it’s called granary because there’s no theme of grains or corn in their menu or décor and their Unilocal picture is chicken and waffles. FYI there’s a $ 10 cake cutting fee if you want to celebrate someone’s birthday here. They will cut and serve the cake for you after the pictures have been taken and the candles blown out. Came here for a friend’s birthday, 10 people, majority, including me, ordered chicken and waffles($ 17), a nice warm waffle with crispy edges and soft inside, a bit of syrup on top, two meaty drumettes, and a nice scoop of their honey butter on top. The chicken was crispy on the outside and… dry on the inside. The honey butter really helped in that regard. I’m no connoisseur of chicken and waffles but I felt that $ 17 for a dish like this was overkill unless the chicken was organic, and the waffle was made of organic corn flour or something, and the butter was freshly hand churned butter, and the honey was harvested from their own apiary. Granted it’s about the same price at most places even like at Five Napkin Burger or Darryl’s, I’d rather get chicken and waffles at Allston Diner for $ 10. They didn’t really refill our waters. We were given a Bulleit whiskey bottle(750ml ~ 3 cups) filled with water to serve to 10 people but they didn’t even try to refill that unless we asked. The décor reminds me of a steakhouse, rustic walls, contemporary lighting. There are three floors, clean bathrooms. and a nice bar area.

My husband and I needed a snack before going to the aquarium and I am so glad we stopped into Granary. I was torn between brunch and lunch and then when I decided on lunch, I was torn between the lobster salad sandwich and the lobster mac and cheese. I opted for the sandwich and my husband got the mac and cheese. Both were REALLY good. The sandwich was huge and flavorful. It was served with homemade potato chips. I personally wasn’t a huge fan of them but he liked them so he finished them. His mac and cheese was also REALLY good. The temperature that day was in single digits, and the mac and cheese was perrrrrfect for that type of weather. Nice and warm and hearty. Large chunks of lobster. I wish I had gotten it. If we’re ever back in the area, that’s what I’ll be getting. The service was friendly and the prices were very reasonable. I didn’t get anything to drink but from what my husband said, there’s a good beer selection, also at reasonable prices. I definitely want to go back here if we go back to Boston.

Was average to me. Anyway, we made reservations for Saturday night at 7:45pm, but the place wasn’t really that crowded. It was a cute, quaint feel to it, very New England meets London bar feel. I ordered their blueberry/bail/Bourbon cocktail to start but made it into a martini, it was pretty delicious. After that we ordered the mussels to split, they were very tasty. They added some chorizo to the dish, so it gave it a salty, meaty kick. I don’t eat a lot of meat, but I appreciated the added taste. Overall the sauce was good, pieces of tomato in it and had a bit of a kick from the meat. Great mussels. I kept trying to figure out if I wanted a sandwich, pizza or an entrée. I ended up with their Autumn flat bread pizza, brussel sprouts, squash, lots of mozzarella cheese, the perfect fall/winter kind of pizza. I was a fan. Not OMG I need this every day fan, but it was definitely tasty. My gf had the Margarita pizza(can’t go wrong there) and my date had the fried chicken and waffles entrée. That was VERY tasty, but how can you go wrong there? A giant waffle with maple syrup on it and 3 pieces of fried chicken on top. Sounds like the perfect hungover food to me. Service was okay. Food was good, but not over the top amazing. Cute hangout spot. They had a bunch of tvs by the bar. I think I would come here more for drinks than food.

Girls night out and what a great choice my friend had! The décor feels like an upscale pub. It was lively and noisy but not so much that we couldnt hear eachother talk. We were given a hightop next to the window which was pretty cool to see the city at night while eating:) Food: We started with wine of course! And baked brie with onion jam on crostinis. Very good, the onions I think were my favorite part. Entrees we got the lamb burger with sweet potato fries and salmon fall salad. Both were very tasty. Great portion sizes and seasoned very well. Crystal was our server and she was so patient with us bc we hadnt seen each other in a while and were gabbing away without looking at the menu, oops! But she was very nice about it. Checked on us often and made us feel welcome. Would love to come back again:)

I came here for lunch twice in a row on a recent trip to Boston, which speaks to how much I liked it. Granary Tavern definitely attracts the suited crowd during the weekdays, and most tables I saw appeared to be people on business lunches. The have more tables and another bar downstairs, so even if it appears busy upstairs you’ll likely be able to get a table downstairs. The fried chicken and waffles looked amazing, but I had the heirloom salad with salmon. It was the perfect light-ish lunch, though the vinaigrette was a bit sweet for my taste. Service was quick and helpful, bathrooms were clean, ambiance was nice, food was delicious-I will definitely be back!

Ceaser salad — decent Ribs — «to die for» Very loud(almost too loud) and busy(Friday night). Waiter forgot our starter, brought it out during our meals. Wouldn’t recommend to a friend

Granary Tavern is lined by sidewalks on three sides, facing the the fun fountains spraying before the New England Aquarium, with its back snuggled up to its sibling restaurant, Central Wharf. Being at such a prime location, they have a well placed patio along the Greenway. Their inside space isn’t too shabby either, being quite large, although their décor hints broadly at the 1816 construction of the building within which it is housed, rather than its own 2012 beginnings. We came for lunch and found the service pleasant and the food generally acceptable. Between the three of us, we selected a flatbread and two salads to share. *Thai Beef Noodle $ 14 sliced sirloin, rice noodles, Napa cabbage, mango, herbs, peanuts, Thai dressing Heirloom Salad $ 9 kale, arugula, quinoa, toasted almonds, cipollini onions, heirloom carrots, herb vinaigrette Pulled Pork $ 13 slow roasted pork, bbq sauce, smoked gouda, b&b pickles The flatbread was quite shareable and was found sliced into eight portions for our convenience. The pickles were chunky and generous. The pork tender and well sauced. The crust chewy rather than crisp. The experienced diner among us preferred the crisper crust of the neighboring Central Wharf. The Thai salad was relatively bland and the diced mango not as ripe as I like. The beef chunks were generous enough, but dis-satisfyingly tough. I very much preferred the Kale salad with its refreshing mix of tastes and textures over the Thai.
