Great service, the people who work there are so nice. Also a great view. Food is okay but it’s definitely worth the stop by

My must go when I’m in town. Friendly atmosphere. Love the culture. Great food. Even greater drinks. Great way to catch up with friends.

I was visiting my niece for just a day and we had a whirlwind tour of Boston including a lunch at the Harvard Club. It was a lovely spring day and the view and food make this a five star! Service a tad slow on taking order. I had a lobster roll, my first, and if they are all this good, I am moving to Boston! So much lobster meat on a delicious Brioche long roll. I could not have imagined a more genuine Boston experience for lunch.

Believe you need to be a member or guest of a member to visit, but definitely worthwhile. Looking at their webiste, «The Downtown Club of Boston has approximately 6,000 members and numerous partner schools, including Yale, Cornell, Dartmouth, Holy Cross, Bryant, Bentley, Northeastern and Suffolk Universities.» As many have commented upon, the view is gorgeous. Think I like it more than Top of the Hub. The Miller room(I believe it was called) has nice lounge chair, a nice fireplace, and huge windows overlooking the Charles towards the west. Can see MIT, the CITGO sign, and everything around. I had lunch in the Main Dining room(open for lunch; The Crimson room is open for all meals). White tablecloth, well-spaced tables, and nice quiet atmosphere. Server was excellent and attentive. Had a beef salad, which was quite sizable and pretty good. A notch or two above a bailey and sage steak salad. Definitely got me interested in potentially trying to apply for a membership somehow…

I’m a member, so I stop in here somewhat regularly. If I could give 2.5 stars, I would. The best part of the place is the view, it’s amazing. The staff is lovely and welcoming as well. also, the drinks are quite good. There are two dings: 1) the food — it’s far from great. it borders on the«meh». I would recommend going for drinks after work and getting the cheese plate. it’s generous enough that two or three people can feel satisfied, or at most, need a small salad to along with it. 2) the dress code — don’t get me wrong, I’m fine with having a dress code, in fact I like it. what gets me crazy is that the management doesn’t enforce it. I get really annoyed when I’ve intentionally not brought someone because they weren’t dressed appropriately only to get there myself and see a bunch of people in jeans. or worse, I bring a guest who intentionally dressed up so they can go, and there are people in jeans and/or sneakers. Management needs to do their job and enforce the dress code, or abolish it all together — which would be a shame, but is better than the half assed way it’s being handled now. this«yes we have one, but don’t enforce it» crap is well, crap. and it needs to change. amp up the food a bit(doesn’t have to be great, but consistenly good would suffice) and enforce the dress code, and you’ll have a 5 star establishment.

The best views of Boston! Lovely service in the dinning room. Delicious Lobster Roll with house made chips. And a beautiful woman, Nicole, to greet me and bid me farewell at the Reception Desk! Four stars, even from a Cal Bear! Still, Go Bears!

Aside from the food and drinks, which are excellent, especially with our new chef, the Downtown Harvard Club is worth coming to just for the views of Boston from the 38th floor of One Federal Street

If you ever get a chance to catch a meal at the Harvard Club, you probably should. For a work lunch, it’s pretty hard to beat, even if the food might underwhelm you given the cache the name carries. However, dat view tho. Food: 3⁄5 Service: 4⁄5 View: 5⁄5

I can only comment on the drinks, and just sayin’ — Marvin, our bartender, did a good job. The man makes a mean gin and tonic and I’m told he makes a good dirty martini, as well. A few co-workers and I went up to the Harvard Club after work on Friday, since we work at 1 Fed. The view is fantastic up there. It’s a little stuffy up there; very quiet patrons, and even the staff was really quiet and subdued. I guess it goes with the territory, but we still felt a little out of place when we were talking a little louder than the norm and/or laughing loudly. Not that that stopped us! I honestly have no idea how the pricing is there, since my friend picked up the tab when the place closed around 11 or so.

View = 4.5 stars Service = 3.5 stars Food = 3 stars I’ve gone here twice in the last two years for an HFMA wine testing & awards dinner event. The food has been decent but nothing special. A lot of the dishes have exotic ingredients and look different, but the flavors just are not there. The view is indeed excellent. I think the service is good too. They, like most function hall type places, need to increase the quality of their food though.

The food is good but the view is spectacular. I would definitely recommend this place for a special occasion or just to go for a drink and enjoy the sunset over the Charles. The club is 38 floors high and has a breath taking view of Boston and Cambridge. Once a month they host a pub night which is open to anyone and they serve complimentary hot and cold appetizers. A great place to go after work. BTW — the bacon wrapped scallops are the best thing on the menu and a great appetizer to share or eat on your own. They also have a small but very strong scotch selection and the wine list is very nice as well.

Best views in Boston. The princess has a function here for work, as happens once a year, and the views are the best in Boston. The food. well the views are AMAZING from the windows. The service… again, the views are the BEST in Boston. Get what I’m aiming at here? Rude staff seemed upset that I had the gaul to ask them to perform tasks they were there for, now not unreasonable things, just things like«hey may I have a scotch and soda, and a Rum and coke?» The food was dry, unimaginative, and poorly prepared. The atmosphere is the only thing that made this worth it. The function brought together some of the best in the world for this field and was an amazing experience teamed up with the best views in Boston. It’s a shame the food and service made it take a header. Maybe next year, right?

I had the pleasure of going to the Harvard Club for an alumni event for Suffolk University the other night after work. Stopped by the Crimson Pub which is located in a separate room from the dining room we reserved. It had a gorgeous view and a very classy feel. The bartender was friendly and helpful. This is the kind of place you would take someone for a quite drink to impress. The dining room we reserved was also gorgeous, with a very expansive historical mural of historic Boston. All I ate was some kind of honey chicken salad, but no complaints it was good.

One of my fiancé’s good friend’s from high school was married here over the weekend. Congratulations, Phil & Jen! The ridiculous 360 views of our beautiful city were what won me over despite a cloudy evening and just okay dinner. The Crimson Room was the setting for cocktail hour and continued open bar with a view of the Charles, Back Bay, and Cambridge. The dining hall was along the back side with a southeast facing view of the Custom House and Boston Harbor(beautiful at sunset). The size of the wedding was over 150, which filled the dining area quite nicely. And the wedding staff was numerous, though dinner still took a couple hours(plated, five-course). I agree with Erin R. on the staff being quick to take people’s food away. One of the staff tried to take a full plate of salad from a friend from our table while he was still sitting there! He almost stabbed her with a fork. The food was decent, but tepid, and the entrée was poorly executed(cooked arugula does not carry its pepper flavor well). I liked the hors d’ouvres at cocktail hour the best(applewood smoked bacon wrapped scallops, crab cakes, goat cheese/fig topped crackers, and mozzerella-pesto crostini). My last complaint would be the poor stereo system in the dining area. The speakers delivered some beautiful words and executed well, but the sound didn’t carry at all. Music was amplified just fine, but the bustling from one end to the other just drowned out voices. All in all, it was a fun, energetic, gorgeous location for a special occasion!

Ouch — first review and I am going to give a 2-star. I went to an MBA event there last night that included cocktail hour, dinner, and speakers. This particular Harvard Club is tucked away on Federal St — taking the Red Line to Downtown Crossing is the best bet from a T perspective on finding your way. The main advantage that the Club has going for it, besides the über classy Haaaaaarvard name(of course), is the view. We were in a suite that had floor to ceiling glass windows that offered a pretty great view of downtown. Additionally, the bartenders were certainly liberal with the pours and the venue was nicely sized giving plenty of room to spread out and mingle. I cannot really get behind the food here. The best part was my roll. That is kind of sad. The salad was kind of fancy but a little too sweet for me. The stuffed chicken breast entrée they served was pretty rough. It was a combo of slightly undercooked and stuffed with a weird spinach/sun roasted tomatoes mix that I just did not like. The desert was a chocolate cake that was pretty dry, but I was so hungry that I took it down pretty easily with lots of sips from my water. This is in no way an indictment of the student group that put on a pretty nice event at the Harvard Club, but I would think twice about having a fully catered meal at this venue again for the prices I am certain they charged us.

Was invited to lunch in their dinning room one day, and my expectation totally exceeded the actual quality. Agreeing with Julie A. the view was spectacular while the food was unimpressive. We intended to dine at the bar, though for unknown reasons, the bar wasn’t open that day. Ended up in the stuffy(atmosphere-wise) dinning room surrounded by people with class and money written on their face. They did sorta lead me to think that the food was suppose to be good. After reading the plain menu, I decided on oriental/mandarin steak salad. There however was nothing asian(this is the politically correct term) about it. But what salad is asian anyways, asians don’t eat raw greens… ok i’ll stop. The salad wasn’t bad, the steak was done well(medium rare… the way to go) and the vege were ok-seasoned. Except way too much dressing, way too much… the vege were soaking in dressing from half plate down… Oh… and the crab cakes? so disappointing… It was close to «bad.» However, the service was good, the breads were good, and the view was awesome, so three stars I gave them – because i am so nice. But if you don’t improve their food, i shall not allow you to fool me twice.

Distractingly good views, disappointingly average food. I went for lunch with some co-workers on a beautiful day, and man, were the views incredible. The restaurant is on the waterfront side, and it was gorgeous to sit at my table and watch boats appear over the horizon. I kept getting distracted and losing my place in conversations — definitely a great way to see Boston. The assortment of rolls for the table was pretty great, but the butter looked/smelled kind of… off. Not a terrific start. Ordered the roasted vegetable wrap. It wasn’t anything special… served with some Cape Cod-esque chips. Everything else looked OK as well; maybe I went into this place with the wrong idea, but I guess I was expecting something a little more high-end than the kind of sandwiches/burgers I can get anywhere else. Also, the floors are REALLYSLIPPERY. One of my co-workers fell, and no one so much as batted an eye. I think this would have been a better place to go for drinks after work instead of a meal.

Serious views, ladies and gentlemen. The best views in Boston, without question. Unless you are seated in the Monster seats at Fenway. Then you have the best view in Boston, albeit that view is quite, quite different. The first time I dined at the Harvard Club, I ordered the mac and cheese, because — let’s face it — that’s what I pretty much would order *anywhere* if I saw it on the menu. It was pretty good, but I was paying attention way more to what was in the bread bin and taking avocado out of my colleague’s salad when she was not looking. The next time, I went with the carmelized sea scallops, with mushroom ravioli and garlic cream, fried shallots, and greens. And it was heavenly. So good that I was full less than halfway through(the portions are quite large) and yet I absolutely did not want to stop eating it. And I’m a Weight Watcher, so I know how wrong that is on so many levels. Must have been something in that mushroom ravioli! The service is perfect, and the atmosphere dons an almost cynical stuffiness to it. Wear your ‘Sunday best’, so to speak, but if you happen to accidentally spill the contents of your red wine on your white pants, most likely someone will approach you with cleaning materials and a story of someone back in the days of Old Harvard who did something oh so similar.

Apparently not enough Harvard alums wanted to join the club, so they’ve opened up membership to graduates of other schools such as Bentley and Suffolk. However, at least when I went here recently, it was really sad. Aside from two guys sitting at the bar, we were the only people eating here. The food was great and the prices were fairly reasonable considering the area. Unfortunately it was rather cloudy out so there wasn’t much of a view but apparently you can see the state house dome quite clearly from here when the weather is fine. I would definitely return if given the opportunity. Generous portions, nicely cooked meats and an excellent bread basket.

My boss took our group out for lunch here when I came on board. There were 13 of us and I was the only one who got a beer.(They knew I worked at a night club before I got my day job and he gave me a serious go ahead. I was a little tentative at first but I mostly thought it was strange that no one else was down with the free booze.) Anyway the view of the harbor was fantastic and you could even see the ICA. Apparently you don’t have to have gone to Harvard to belong(my boss went to BU I think) and he said he’d let us use his membership to go if we wanted, so I think I’ll take my mom for a drink next time she comes to town. I had the scallops and striped mushroom ravioli which were great, but everyone else got sandwiches and burgers which were all apparently sub-par to mediocre. And they forgot to place my bosses order so his pot pie came out 10 minutes after everyone else’s lunch had arrived and the carrots were apparently pretty raw. Bad move when this is the guy leaving the tip. 2 stars for food. 1 star for the view.
