Ordered a Greek salad. No feta cheese. And then they packed it to-go without a fork! I’m now on a four-hour bus ride with no way to eat my food.

This place is good to pick up a grilled sandwich before hopping on the long bus trip back to NYC. I got the Korean BBQ cheese sandwich and it was pretty darn good. Fresh bread, spicy meat, and the right amount of cheesiness. Makes everyone the bus jealous they didn’t do the same.

Just before we were leaving on a bus to New York, we wanted a quick bite to eat since we didn’t have breakfast or lunch. Instead of getting fast food, we noticed right next to the McDonald’s, there was a deli shop that looked healthy with more options. My friend really wanted a lobster roll while in Boston. We had our expectations low since we were at a Transit Station, but this was our last opportunity. We were also intrigued at their combo prices. As of September 17th, 2013; you can get 4″ Lobster Sandwich & a cup of soup or salad for only $ 10.99. So we all got that, with a cup of Clam Chowder. All three of us had the same opinion. We all really liked the lobster sandwich & the clam chowder! The price was definitely worth it, especially since most food courts inflate their prices at a transit station. At $ 10.99 the quantity was small, but the quality of their sandwich & soup were definitely worth it!

I’ve been to this place on many a bus trip. I know they say philly has the best steak and cheese, but if you don’t have the luxury of going to philly might as well get it from here. I am a fan of a their steack and cheese w/mayo, ketchup, lettuce and pickles… YUMMY! They have different sizes for us people who don’t want to gain 5 million pounds… LOL! I like the fact that their in the bus station b/c I get to have my nostalgic moment on the way home.

Do yourself a favor. If you find yourself arriving in Boston’s South Station following a 3.5 hour bus ride that you just barely made at 7am thanks to the incompetence of the NYCMTA, skip the McDonald’s and order breakfast from D’Angelo’s! Their breakfast wraps(sausage, ham, bacon, steak) are MASSIVE and packed with all sorts of yummy flavor. They do take a few minutes to make, so if you’re in a hurry, the McD’s may work out better for you, but if not… The employee was friendly enough for someone working the early shift at a bus station. Prices weren’t too shabby for breakfast, but I did notice the lunch prices skyrocketed quite a bit. On the return journey, my girlfriend ordered the lobster club sandwich. I don’t eat seafood, but she seemed to LOVE it. It was rather sizable and disappeared in a matter of minutes. It must have been good…

I just ordered a chicken cesar salad, the delivery guy was great and the service was prompt. However, my lettuce had seen better days, brown and tasted freezer burned. The chickn tasted mushy and mealy, no croutons to speak of thankfully I ordered dressing on the side but the dressing was separated and tasted gross. Also, the pita bread that came w/it had remnants of mayonnaise and pieces of tunafish left inside. Beware the 257 Old Colony ave location, the manager is nice he kept insisting on sending me another salad. I told him no thank you but if he saw a hungry homeless person on the street give it to them.

SO many memories of this place. I’m a frequent traveler who used to take Greyhound, Peter Pan, MegaBus, and eventually Amtrak. The consistent thing about each trip is that I always ate, or brought along, a sub from D’Angelo’s. Even now, when I take the train, I make the walk over to the bus terminal to grab a medium or large sub. Your sandwich is made fresh while you wait and, depending upon how much time you have, you can either eat it at one of the sit down or stand-up tables shared with the McDonald’s next door. The ambiance is, of course, a bus depot — but it’s cleaner than New York’s Port Authority Bus Terminal. I recommend bringing a cold sub with you on your journey(my personal suggestion is the tuna sub with pickles and hot peppers; your travelmates might hate you, but you won’t be sorry). The large sub is tough to finish, but if you do, you probably won’t want dinner for at least 6 hours or more. My favorite sub is the Reuben, since they make it hot. I’ll keep coming back here whenever I’m at South Station, especially since the options at the train terminal are pretty abominable. This shining gem saves me many times.

So I arrived early for my same day bus back to NY at South Station and knew I would be hungry during the four hour ride. I thought back to my two years of college in the area and wanted to relive one of many old trips to D’Angelo’s. Of course my old memories did not have me in a bus depot eating a pita pocket, but we must adjust. This D’Angelo is inside South Station. In college I would have routinely five starred this place, possibly due to the freshness and taste and possibly due to the fact that a steak and cheese pocket immediately cured a college hangover. However, fast forward a number of years and we are A-OK, three stars. I got the medium turkey pocket with lettuce, tomato and mayo and it was as I remembered. Fresh turkey, excellent pita(favorite part always, maybe that says something) and not enough mayo. I am not a huge fan of globs of mayo, but it needs to be in there. The pita was stuffed, too much, so the pita began to break while I was eating it. The whole point of the scrumptious pita is to keep the stuff inside. If I got the steak and cheese, I would have been happier, but the turkey did the trick. The bread of the pita has never, ever disappointed.

It all started with a six-hour road trip a few years back with two of my closest friends at the time, both from downstate NY. A rest stop D’Angelos presented itself, and recalling the sandwiches of my youth, we stopped(it wasn’t this location — I picked this one because I ate there today. It’s a good story, read on). I tried to convince both to partake of the pokket(with its delectable double k), but to not avail. The girl did, the guy refused and got some giant meatbally thing(which he thought was amazing, natch). Anyhow, the pokket is precisely what I love about D’Angelo’s(this location, by the way, has the old-style green logo and isn’t trying to be anything more than a fast-food sandwich shop). That and the clam chowder, flowing Dr. Pepper, and did you know that there are only two locations that serve fries? Newburyport is one of them, I’m still looking for the other…
