Cigar Masters have sadly and unexpectedly closed their doors in Boston.

The proprietress on this day was no sommelier of cigars or customer service. On the phone when I walked in, made me wait. Ignored me the hour I spent there. Another customer came in and blasted the lights up without acknowledging my presence. Seemed offended when I asked for a compromise level of lumens. Tattered furniture. Dorm level décor. Back to the female manager who was annoyed when I didn’t walk around a few other customers to make it convenient for her to check me out. No salutations when I left. I won’t be back.

Nothing special. Humidor guy not very helpful to my friend and me who told him we were neophytes. Perhaps he did not understand the word. No hard liquor. Ordered beer and ignored the rest of the evening by staff.

The good: Everything. Smoking bar in Boston with a vast cigar selection at reasonable prices. Staff is amazing! Our bartender was fantastic, so much so we went back a second time on our trip. Belgian beer selection is great, and the atmosphere, staff and patrons make you feel like you have been going for years. The bad: 35 per person minimum; Doesn’t bother us but was odd to see The ugly: Nothing, even the décor was good. Side note, when we vacationed in Boston, our friends told us many of their favorite places to visit. This is our favorite that we will pass to our friends.

If a place could reek«man-ness» this is it. Leather couches, cigars and a brandy. Could a guy want more? What is also nice is that they have a few light drinks on the menu for the girls who do not want beer or brandy. The cigars were good, expensive for the good ones so don’t expect to pay little for a good cigar. The extra money is worth it. The ventilation system I can’t say was the greatest but then I’m not sure it needs to be great if it is a cigar place so I’m going to leave it at 5 stars. For a cigar place — ITWASAMAZING!

I’ve been here so many times and always consider it a bit of a destination. You can spend the night smoking cigars, drinking wine, and talking politics and before you know it — it’ll be closing time. The place gets busy and people don’t seem to leave so if you grab a seat, don’t ever let it go.

I had such a good time here on our last visit to Boston. They have a vast selection of cigars of all types. The service was AMAZING. We walked into the humidor and we were attended throughout the whole time that we were looking around. Then we got seated and we were attended by our waitress Elise which was soooo attentive and soooo sweet. The service really made our night there a truly great experience and one I hope I can repeat again.

I write this review in sorrow. First and most important, the people who were injured or worse in the Boston Marathon bombings, but secondly because we don’t have a place like this in Philadelphia. My friend and I have not stopped raving about it since we were there in November. Other than the wedding we attended, it was the highlight of our trip to Boston. Just GREAT!

Love this place. **Beer and Wine Only*** I loved the original location on Newbury Street. I moved. So did Cigar Masters. Every time I go back to Boston I need to hit CM’s at least twice. Not only is the cigar selection there phenomenal, the people you will meet there in the middle of the day enjoying a cigar will make your trip worth it. I have never found a dry cigar there, nor a bad beer/glass of wine. The service is top notch, and the servers are fun to talk to as well. Most of all I love the ambiance of this place. A nice cool dark interior with plenty of natural light(in the front of the shop). Everything is priced on the higher end, but it’s downtown Boston so I don’t go expecting a deal. I am a huge fan of this place and look forward to going back next time I’m on Boston.

My buddy and I visited this place for the first time for the birthday back in November and it did not disappoint… I have been back with him and several other friends a few times since. The places looks like an upscale cigar lounge… nice wood seats and leather couches, big screen TV in the back, pretty classy bar, and extremely good looking waitstaff and bartenders ;) They have a few beers on tap, much more in bottle, and a full wine list. This is not the place to come if you are looking to get smashed, rather it’s a place to come to sit back, chill, smoke a cigar and have a good conversation with some friends. The people in the humidor room are very friendly and knowledgable about the types of product they have. The only negative is that the ventilation could be a bit better, because after spending about 2 hours here, the place gets really REALLY smokey, and for most people, it’s kind of hard to take. Overall, I’ve always walked out of this place extremely happy and relaxed… which is the way it should be! Looking forward to the next visit.

My favorite stop for cigars in Boston. Whenever I need a cigar for myself, a gift, or anything, this is the place I head to. They have a great walk in humidor with a staff that is extremely knowledgeable. I’m not an aficionado by any means, and the guys working inside have helped me pick out a bunch of great smokes, based solely on what I’ve smoked in the past and enjoyed. Prices seem very reasonable as well. Obviously not as cheap as the online retailers, but not bad at all. I’ve only smoked there a handful of times, but its been great every single time. Been with the boys, taken my sister, and gone by myself. Always a great atmosphere. Dark, smokey, relaxing. The couches and chairs are comfortable, its not a place that you have to shout into someones ear to be heard. As per any cigar bar, expect to smell for days afterwards. Decent selection of beer, don’t know enough about wine to make a statement on their selection, although it does seem vast. Also for those curious, they do not sell hard liquor. There are laws in this beautiful, puritanical town that have restrictions stating that a bar must make a certain percentage of sales from tobacco to get a liquor license(complex and confusing balance of sales here) so they are able to prevent overcharging on cigars by not providing liquor. And quite frankly, I can deal with not having a scotch if I’m getting a fair price on my smoke.

One of only two full-service cigar bars in Boston, complete with a wide selection of cigars, wines(«Earthquake» is the top-selling red), ports, and draft beers(Allagash white is my must-have). You’ll love the cushy leather couches that just let you sink in with each draw of your favorite stogie. You’ll also appreciate the gorgeous and professional staff that makes this place feel like the ultimate gentleman’s club(and I mean that in the London sense, not the Vegas strip joint euphemism). And for you few ladies that like to venture in, yes, there’s a view for you too, as the knowledgeable mound of muscle named Roger will ease you into his best selections. This is the modern-day Cheers, where after a few visits, everyone knows your name.

A den of decadence by Copley. The appeal of Cigar Masters is the guy who runs the humidor and is basically a sommelier of cigars. Is the lancero from My Father as full bodied as the rest of the line? What’s the difference between Oliva G and O? He’ll know. Leather couches and a big screen TV make this place a bit of a sports bar. Mood lighting and small tables make it acceptable if you have a face-meltingly cool girl.

This placed felt like a cloak and dagger type setting. It was very dark and smokey. We went into the humidor room to grab our cigars, the person in there was very knowledgable and courteous. We told him what we preferred and he hit the nail on the head on which cigar we should get. The seating is limited here, so if you come here with a party of 3 or more, it might be hard to find. Fortunately we were lucky to sit on the leather couches that could sit 6. We met some pretty cool guys and engaged in a nice conversation. The waitress there could get her own reviews she was so amazing. She was this beautiful and tall women that worked the entire room by herself. She was fast, friendly, and attentive. Taking orders, serving drinks, all doing this in a tiny black dress and smoking a fat winston churchill cigar like a boss. I think I’m in love

I’ve been coming here for the past 5 years or so. Used to be a fun place. Don’t know what happened here but since this summer(2012) the staff seem like they don’t like working here, especially the bar girls Our last experience is three of us walked in, sat at the bar, then had to wait five minutes until the(new?) bar girl was done talking to her friends. She served our wine quickly, then went back to a corner where she huddled with two waitresses. The humidor guys are always friendly and know their cigars. We got our cigars and sat down to watch the Sox. The bar girl came back and proceeded to give snotty attitude to everyone sitting at the bar. Being in the service industry for more years than I can count and a manager I can spot wait staff that’s unhappy with her job and the girls seem unhappy with their job and their customers. Having said that this is still the best place in Boston to smoke a cigar but the customers are a lot younger than they used to be so they tip less

This place is located a stone’s throw from several major hotels in downtown Boston. Its 3 minutes from the Westin and Marriot Copley. Impressive humidor. They did not have a Liga Privada Dirty Rat but they offered me a Feral PIg. Price is on the high end but then again, you don;t see a Feral Pig very often. So kudos to them for having the hard to find cigars. They have a bar in here that only serves beer and wine. Overall, the bar, cigars, seating area is great. The only downside is the ventilation. Fix the ventilation or open the door and we have a winner.

It seems as if all the cigar joints in boston have quite snobby servers. This place is no different. I’ve been here about five times, and every time I get snubbed. Their wine list is pretty bad, and the drinks are pretty overpriced as well. Nevertheless, I did meet a really nice guy in the humidor once who gave me a free cigar, which made for the only positive experience at this place.

This place is an anachronism from a time when men who went out for a night didn’t all wear the same untucked button-up shirt and conversations at the bar weren’t shouted into ones ear. The preservation of the true«lounge» experience has been poorly achieved; any nightlife spot with the word in its name is either being ironic or simply means«we have chairs». Cigar Masters is a lounge, first and foremost. There are absurdly comfortable couches which encourage leaning back until your head is touching leather. There is a bar stocked with wine and beer(hard alcohol would ruin the social composure) and a walk-in humidor full of cigars as new(and old) as they come. There are waitresses who can talk your ear off about any topic you like and also leave you be to enjoy whoever you brought along. Not that you need to bring anyone along. I am not going to say that cigar smokers are more interesting people than the masses, because exceptions dictate opinions. I will, however, say this: in this day and age, when no one would think to argue the health detriments of smoking, anyone who is steadfast in their vices enough to flip off the Surgeon General and hang out in this cigar bar is going to be a character. I’ve met construction workers who just got off duty; I’ve met NBA players on their nights off. The point is, Cigar Masters will change your social circle. My advice is three-fold: 1) Going in, know that your clothes will hold on to the cigar smoke. Get to know your dry cleaner, and consider having a dedicated outfit for trips here if you plan to be a regular. 2) Tip more than you would at a restaurant. 3) The best source of cigar knowledge is not necessarily a magazine, a website, or even the man on-duty in the humidor; you will become a pro by listening to your fellow patrons. They’ve been here longer than you. They have wisdom in spades.

Cigar Master’s face lift of the front portion of the bar is a massive improvement with a greater seating capacity; much better for watching a game. Service is always excellent with a very attentive bartender making sure your glass is full. Awesome selection of cigars. Best place in the city to hang out while your wife looks for bargains that will save you boat loads of money. «I bought these shoes for $ 80.00 that used to $ 350.00. I saved you $ 270.00» Hell with all the money you just saved have a second cigar and another couple of beers. You can afford it.
