I have been to three Chart House locations: Lake Tahoe Golden Nugget, Las Vegas and now Long Wharf, Boston This one is by far one of the nicer locations! Right on the wharf, What a great way to experience some seafood in one of the seafood capitals of America! Clam Chowder: 4⁄5 For being right on the water I feel like I have had better, fresher clam chowder elsewhere. But it was still decent. Shrimp Linguine: 4⁄5 Nice juicy, plump shrimp. Linguine was cooked well and the sauce was good but a tad bit oily. You could probably find a nicer, less expensive seafood place in Boston.

Charming restaurant in fantastic location. That’s is where the good stuff ends, unfortunately. Food was beyond meh, which is disappointing because this chain is better than this location. When you are in a location like this, with availability of produce that is arguably the freshest and best in the world, then shame on you when you really don’t care enough to produce a meal that is barely mediocre — at best. It’s not just the back of the house that is in trouble. The greeters and servers clearly don’t care either. It’s a shame is all I can say. Won’t be back and wouldn’t encourage anyone else to go.

We had a 2 pm reservation on Father’s day and I was worried they’d seat us late based on other reviews, but they sat us as soon as we came in around 1:40. Great service when we first sat then it slowed a little. Not a huge deal, our waiter was incredibly friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. We started with the calamari and every part of the dish was amazing. I ordered the Cuban scallops and shrimp — also delicious! I liked the shrimp better than the scallops and the mashed potatoes that came with it were awesome. I tried a bite of the lobster stuffed scrod — I’d recommend it! My dad’s swordfish was just okay.

Ok. A secret that I should NOT share but I will for my commuter boat friends… Quick service Tasty food Lobster bisque has chunks of lobster Calamari is a GIANT serving Drinks are great! Was in a rush and every on the waterfront was packed This place had plenty of bar seats inside and a back Dior to the Hingham boat dock ! I rank it a 5 for a fast bite that is tasty and service ROCKS!

I don’t why they only have a 3 Star. Great food. A lot for the $. If you have kids split the meal. Large plates. The Tuna taco appetizer is a MUST! I ate as my meal and it was plenty. Ultimate Rita is great!

The building that Chart House is located in used to be John Hancock’s office, and thus has a very patriotic feel to it with flags and eagles adorning the walls. However, with a history like this one you might be surprised by the Asian fusion subtly mixed into most of the dishes. The swordfish I ordered was the special for the night and though the lobster/crab mix on top was to die for, the swordfish itself was a little too cooked. Although, my boyfriend and my father got the same dish and enjoyed the charred fish. All in all, the appetizers and everything else on my plate were delicious.

Had the Kimchi Calamari for an appetizer, very different and we really liked it. Ordered the cobb salad, seemed like it could have had more lettuce in it for $ 15. Also had the gazpacho soup, and that was good. Service was good.

Best clam chowder I’ve had in years! Burger was undercooked but mgt took care of it. Service was a little slow but gave me time to enjoy a couple of beers and oysters on the half shell while enjoying wonderful weather!

Friendly staff who know the building’s history. Food was good. My wife had the Paneed Chicken commenting it was juicy and the best she’s had. I ordered the Lobster Stuffed Scrod [cod] and would order again even though the cod at times had a touch of fishiness. Also had to ask for water and soda refills.

This place was great. We showed up early for our reservation and had a drink at the bar. The drinks were delicious and the surly bartender was hilarious. Afterwards we sat upstairs against the city side windows. The food was delicious. The filet mignon rivaled any top steakhouse. The scrod stuffed with lobster was«very tasty» –date. The lava cake, which you have to order with entrees, was delicious, as were the espresso martinis we had afterwards. Overall great experience, ambiance, and meal.

Nice patio location with mediocre food and atrociously slow service. Even the fabulous location wasn’t enough to redeem the service enough to a two star rating.

After waiting 50 minutes for lunch which consisted of a crab salad and a Cesar chicken salad, we were not impressed with the quality of the food. The inattentive waiter apologized and said that someone else took our food. He could have told us that and rushed a second order. Instead he just ignored us. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Boston.

At first I was skeptical that this place could be that great since it’s actually a large chain. HOWEVER, with it’s interesting ambiance, legit Boston waiters and the best Boston Clam Chowder I’ve ever tasted, it’s quickly become one of my favorite places to eat in Boston. It’s pricey, but worth it. The squaw(dark molassy) bread that they bring out hot is the best, and the bacon salad is better than any other salad I’ve had. Can’t wait to go back. Also, free parking!

What a great location. Water and wharf are gorgeous and this restaurant is wonderful. Fresh fish(we had blackened cod and salmon) prepared perfectly with a light rice and grilled veggies. Inside of the building is decorated with an old world style. Perfect for a date or special occasion. Valet parking. Super friendly and helpful staff. Server was very knowledgeable and provided just the right amount of detail. We are here on vacation and will definitely be back.

Came here for dinner with a group… expensive for not good food. maybe cause I ordered from the restaurant week menu. quality went downhill? Ordered the chowda and prime rib w mash potatoes = strong herb taste & salty. Also ordered not from the rw menu… app: thyme fire roasted shrimp and shrimp, crab, avacado & mango stack. both same thing. nothing special. Luckily the 1 sloppy joe crab cake was the best out of tonight’s dishes… tried the mac nut mahi from my friend and it was terrible. like armpit.bleh. dessert: cheesecake… nothing special. Tried the strawberry shortcake cause the waiter of neighboring table said it was good. Great strawberries but the cake was like eating a dry biscuit.2ppl can share this dessert. Didn’t order the hot chocolate lava cake cause waiter said it will take 30min to make… wonder if any good? Overall excellent service but the food I will not come back for.

Chart House has a great location and is wonderful to go to as a romantic date night! The chowder was a little heavy on the herbs for my personal taste, but still pretty good. Unfortunately I felt that I’ve had better chowder. The panned chicken that I had was really delicious. It was lightly breaded and the citrus butter paired well. I had it with the yukon mashed potatoes which was really tasty and flavorful. My boyfriend had the lobster stuffed scrod which he really enjoyed. The server we had was great! Very attentive and never let our waters get too low and was great at checking in to see if we needed anything else. He was knowledgeable about the menu and very kind. It made our experience very special, which to me is just as important as great tasting food. I would recommend Chart House as a good dinner date restaurant and hopefully others will luck out with a fantastic server like I had for an overall wonderful dining experience. Consistency is key with me, so when I return for the salmon, I hope I get the same great experience as I did the first time.

I have been here twice. Second time this afternoon, I decided to give it a second chance after the first experience wasn’t the best. Both times I’ll say the service was extremely slow but the food over all is good. Everyone I went with today was happy with there meals. I’ll go again.

First let me say this review is not indicative of my past experiences here. I typically love the chart house and have had positive experiences with the food and the staff but on 11⁄13 I had a horrible time and it was all on account of a new female manager I hadn’t seen before so I assume she is new. The kitchen was a little slow that night but it was a Friday and this is understandable when it is busy. Well our orders got messed up and I am unsure if it was an error by the server or the kitchen but again this isn’t important, again these things happen. The server apologized and had a manager come speak with us. The manager said she was sorry and asked if she could get us some appetizers she could rush right out because our dinners would take a little while. She suggested these lobster spring rolls which were delicious and something else I cannot recall. We ate them and our dinners came out, she checked it was alright when it did and it all seemed to be fine until we were done and got our check. We got the bill and the appetizers she offered us were on there. We told our server who apologized and got the manager. Mind you we ate our dinners and they were great and I am not looking for a free ride but the appetizers she offered to hold us over while they remade our messed up order? She came over and asked what the problem was with our bill and I told her it was that we were charged for the appetizers she offered us. She very rudely said, «that is typically how it works when you order something at a restaurant. It goes on your bill.» She said this and the table behind us heard and laughed at us. It was humiliating. I wasn’t asking for my meal free which most restaurants would offer when they messed up. Just the apps she offered. Is this her up sell scam? Mess up my order to get me to buy apps I didn’t want in the first place? I didn’t know how else to respond I was so shocked she said this to us. She then said«if I need to take them off your bill to make you happy I guess I’ll do that» I said no forget it. I was embarrassed because she made us look like we were cheap jerks to the other customers and just wanted to get out of there. I used to come to the chart house at least once a month. It was our night out go to choice but not anymore unless I find out this lady is gone. I certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable there now and this is so disappointing because this was my spot. If anyone with any say sees this I suggest you fix your staffing issue because until now your managers had always not only professional but friendly and said hi to me everytime I was there because they recognized me. This really bothers me because now I have to find a new favorite spot

The chart house is one of those restaurants that I would only visit on a certain time of the year«the summer time». The reason is because nothing was memorable, not even the food but the outdoor patio is fantastic in the summer time. Right next to the aquarium where from you seat you can see a lot of people walk by and all the activities surrounding you. The pasta dish was good. The clam chowder was also great. Best to come in during lunch time or very early supper.

The reviews for Chart House are spot on. Because the food, my god, the food is unbelievable. We got a sample of starters including some amazing coconut shrimp(with delicious sauces), calamari and a stack of crab, avocado and peppers. Mmmm. And of course the clam chowder, which was thick and peppery. So good. But the front of the house game is just awful. We came at 8:45 and they told us it would be a 45 minute wait, but probably much less. 9:30 came and went. So did 9:45. At 10:05 we were finally sat. And the worst part was, every time we checked they told us, «it will only be a few more minutes.» They gave us a buzzer and it never went off, instead, they sent someone to find us in the bar. Seems kind of inefctive and a waste of time, which may be the reason everything was delated. And then the waiter forgot things, like we ordered a diet coke with no ice and it came filled to the brim with ice. Joy. Still, that food is killer. Delicious.

I went here a couple restaurant weeks ago and was so excited by the delicious looking menu options. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the expectations. I understand that restaurant week is a pre fixe menu, and its less than you would charge, but the point is to 1. draw in new customers 2. draw in more customers than would normally come during the week and 3. have those customers come back. The potatoes seemed like they were microwaved and thrown on the plate. The lobster stuffed scrod was small, colorless, and sad. As soon as we asked for the restaurant week menu I felt as though we were being looked down upon. You should have integrity for your food as a chef and as a waiter you shouldnt be embarrassed about what youre serving. I don’t think I’d ever come back.

Front of house failures destroy this Boston classic. Our evening this past Saturday night was ruined due to a complete lack of management and hospitality in the front of the house. We made a 6:15PM dinner reservation for 5 people through OpenTable. When we arrived we were told that reservations were running a little bit late and that it would be about 20 minutes so we took the buzzer they gave us, grabbed a table in the bar area and ordered a drink. I had some out-of-town guests with me and I had spent a bit of time talking up the place as a Boston classic with a beautiful view in historical building etc. and so on. I watched my guest’s faces change from excitement to dismay to complete disgust as the bar around us became more and more crowded with patrons like us unable to be seated due to whatever operational meltdown was happening up front. At 7:45 we still had not been seated in the dining room. That’s 90 minutes of waiting with a reservation and no end in sight. A few times, I went to check to see if they had an updated estimate for us and the hostesses and manager seemed so afraid of the patrons that they wouldn’t even look up from their computer screen to make eye contact. Ultimately, after a round of drinks and a couple of appetizers at the bar, we decided to give up. We settled our bill. And then we walked out. I’m sorry, but this is simply shameful restaurant management and consequently, this place does not deserve your business. There are so many real gems within the Boston food scene that visitors and locals alike can easily skip this place outright.

I’ve been to the Chart House so many times in the last few years… going at least 3 to 4 times a year with different friends but this time was the worst out of all of them. A couple of my friends and I went there for lunch for Dining Out Boston. We waited 5 minutes before the server came over. we needed a couple of minutes to look over the menu while waiting for the 3rd to return from the bathroom since we were waiting anyways. After we placed our orders(including drinks, and items from the prix fix menu for dining out boston) the water came first and the drinks took a few minutes. The mango mojito looked like a regular mojito without the mango(it was green) and does not taste of mango at all). When the apps finally came it was another 8 to 10 minutes later. We waited for almost 20 minutes before the entrees came. by then we were very much done with the apps and were just sitting waiting for our waitress to come over to take the plates away and to return with entrees. We watched as other patrons get their foods but us. Finally another drink comes and it was more mango. Again we waited for the waitress to come clean up the table and await for dessert. this now was 2:50pm. She never put the dessert in and forgotten what we ordered. Ummm… there was only 1 dessert item on the menu… how do you forget that? We arrived at 1:35PM. and left at 3:10pm. In the end, i had to go to the register to see her about getting the check because she was just not coming to our table. We spent $ 90, with what could have been more but it just wasn’t worth it when she didn’t show up after our apps came out and again after entrees came out and forgot the dessert. The food, however was excellent. Sadly we still left her an 17% tip because we didn’t want to be one of those that do not tip but we would have gladly tipped at least 20% if it was good service like previous times i was there.

Please, do yourself a favor and run as fast away from this place as you can. Just awful food, service, everything. The waiter was inattentive and rude. Took him about 15 mins to come over to ask us for drinks. Then we barely saw him again until he asked for our dinner orders. He also forgot to bring us bread, which is complimentary with dinner! The drinks were terrible. My boyfriend’s cocktail was ¾ full. Both of our drinks tasted like there was no alcohol in them. Basically like drinking juice. And they were expensive! $ 12-$ 15. Horrible. The food was awful. Cold and tasteless. I paid 33 $ for my fish & it sucked! Definitely not worth the money, could get better food from a TGIFriday’s. Everything was so bad, between my meal and my boyfriend’s. If I am paying 150 $ for dinner, I expect a good drink at the very least. I am begging you, don’t give this place your money. They don’t deserve it. Whoever is running this place does not give a crap.

Don’t waste your time here, much better places… 0 for service, our waiter was so inattentive and not friendly. Took him 10 minutes just to get us water. Rushed us through the entire night. It was not pleasant at all. 2 for the food, the only positive part was that the bread was warm even though we had to ask for it, every other table got it without asking. Our appetizers were ok. Then our entrees came(I got prime rib, my gf got grouper) BOTH our entrees were cold and completely tasteless. We were compelled to send them back but we were just so over the entire time so we just ate and left. We came here 2 years ago and it was awesome. I’m shocked that a restaurant that charges this much for seafood and meat can go from so good to so bad. Maybe it’s a change in management or chef but either way you can get 100 times better food in downtown Boston which is a hop, skip or a jump away. I wouldn’t recommend anything about this place. It has gone so downhill and I know we will never come back here. We live in Boston and are very disappointed in the way our night went here. For a $ 150+ meal you’d expect to at least get a warm entrée and decent service. We got absolutely nothing for $ 150. Choose another restaurant…

5 for the food but –3 for service, took hostess 10 min to sit us outside while 4 tables unattended. We had to wait 15 min before anybody came to see us, same story for the table next to us. Iril, our server was extremely slow and inattentive. He never asked about our food and didn’t even cared about paying any attention to our experience. I am been a waiter for 3 years and 2 as restaurant manager. If feel sorry for a chef who put so much work into his/her menu and ends up being meaningless by this lack of fundamentals in service. I mean putting ice in our wine glasses and then throwing that ice in flowers next to me… you can’t be serious

Why all the negative reviews? Travelling with my mom, we visited many famous restaurants in Boston — this is one of the best moments on our journey. The short ribs were very delicious– it was very soft and came with great potatoes. The fish and chips were great also, it came with 3 sauces and all tasted very nice. Our favourite of the day was the oysters — we ended up ordering a whole dozen ’cause they were so fresh! The only downside was the clam chowder — not as good as the place in the prudential tower. Our server was a really nice guy and recommended great local Boston beers for us! The view was also very nice — ships coming in and out — oh the tourist joy. Overall we really enjoyed the meal and will be back when we visit Boston again! Oysters oysters!

Been here years ago on a cold rainy October night, had drinks at the bar… was a nice time… Thought I’d surprise my wife and take her out for a date Saturday night… so off our little one goes for an over-nite…we get all spiffed up… I put on my finest flips flops… and off we go on our adventure into Boston… Being someone that goes out to dinner, hmmm, once a week… I am generally quite open to the folks that I encounter, whether it be people at a bar… dining near us… or the bartender/wait-staff… If you take a peek at my reviews over the years, I believe I have only ever rated the restaurants and experiences that I have enjoyed… until now… Sat nite, around 7’ish…no reservation… I asked the hostess(young lady) how long might it be for a table for two outside? She quoted 20 minutes and we’ll get a text when the table is ready!!! 20 minutes, wowzaaa, this nite is going to be great… so we head into the bar, order a few drinks, oh but wait, there’s more… After about a ten minute wait(no big deal)…my wife thought she had the attention of the bartender, he apparently asked the patron seated at the bar, «what would you like for dinner?» My wife says«do you have sangria?» Now, being college educated with a graduate degree and 19 years ordering drinks at bars and ordering food at restaurants since she was oh I don’t know, 8, would give her 32 years experience at restaurants… soooooooo she obviously did not hear him correctly… and thought he made eye contact… He says to her«I was in the middle of a sentence with this gentlemen» Are you serious #$)$U@)$ You just spoke to the mother of my child like that @)&#)#U@$@$ You little bartender you @)#U)#$U@*)U$)$UY)*$UY)*@ Now, being someone who has lost faith in most of this world, I wanted to say«hey buddy, I really don’t know what your problem is, you need an attitude adjustment, my better half thought she had your attention» But I let it go… I let it go, serenity now, serenity now I said to myself lol. Anyhow I thought it was extremely rude!!! When he did end up taking our drink order, she asked, regarding sangria, he stated«I can make it» She decided to forego that since we’re now at about 15 minutes… and simply ordered a glass of wine… as did I… Now, the nice thing that he did was, he walked around the bar and brought us each glass individually over to us, so we would not have to reach across the bar(as we were standing) so 5 stars there… was a nice gesture… Now on to about the 45 minute marker approaching 8 pm… I asked the hostess, if she had an idea, time frame for a table(remember originally quoted 20) She nicely stated, still have 3 ahead of you… Wow wow wow, what? Stop the presses!!! That makes a 20 minute time frame, into over an hour with no notice, nobody alerted us! More importantly nobody alerted my stomach of this info & he was angry! But it’s a nice place, and it’s on the water, and my goal was to have a nice dinner on the waterfront… We order a second drink, glass of wine for Mrs. O’Brien, I’ll have an IPA — Harpoon of course… shaken not stirred lol We pay, what did bartender # 2 forget? The beer!!! Hahaaaaa, true story!!! We had to ask for the beer, he chuckled, we laughed, was quite funny actually! No problem and bartender # 2 was nice! I think they might need bartender # 3 to replace # 1 since # 1 wasn’t # 1 at all in our book… or at least on this review… perhaps I’ll write a book and I’ll mention this service or shall I say non-service… We left, so did the glass too… Headed to Joe’s — quote us an hour — sure — I’m ok with that at this point — we have an app and a drink… it’s 9 pm… soooooooo hungry we left… Who is texting Mrs. O’Brien, is it Chart House? Surely !!! Table ready lol… horrible… Grabbed a cab to the north end… seated at a table within 2 minutes of our arrival, good nite… PS Dear bar tender # 1 — you might want to google # customer service PSS Dear Chart House: 20 minute quote shouldn’t turn into 75 +/-minutes PSSS Would I go back? Sure, looks like a nice place, good wine selection, nice location…

Unfortunately I have to start this review with a negative which I hate to do. However the manager needs to be aware of it’s flaws. We checked in a half hour early for our 7:00 reservation, we were told we could sit in the bar to wait. My husband and I ordered a drink which took 25 minutes to receive. Which I’m sorry is inexcusable when the tables around us got drinks, appetizers and refills. It took one of the other customers asking, aren’t you going to get them their drinks? for us to get ours. Shortly after getting our drinks we were seated. Our server was excellent and saved our evening. We had the Wicked Tuna appetizer which was delicious! My husband got the New Age Surf and Turf which he was extremely excited that this was an option! He got the short ribs and sea scallops, he basically licked the plate clean! I got the salmon which was also amazing! Unfortunately we were too stuffed for dessert. If we return to Boston we will definitely be back! I just hope the manager takes into consideration his staff and service in the bar needs to improve as they are the first impression given of the restaurant and sets the tone for the evening.

I’m surprised to see so many negative reviews for this restaurant when my experience with it last weekend was absolutely wonderful. My brother, in town from Arizona, took my fiancé and I out to dinner to celebrate my graduating from graduate school. Our reservation was for 7:45 on a Saturday night. We ended up being seated at 7:49 and the restaurant was quite crowded. As the restaurant is located in John Hancock’s old counting house, its building has extreme cultural significance and we appreciated learning about its history from our waiter who was amazing in more ways than one. Not only was he knowledgable about local history and the menu, but most importantly he listened to our concerns about my multiple food allergies and was extremely attentive and meticulous in ensuring that nothing I was interested in ordering had any of my allergens in it. When there was a question as to a dish’s suitability, he readily suggested alternatives. We all ordered drinks as well as appetizers. For entrees, I ordered the lobster, my fiancé had the steak and mushroom linguini, and my brother had the lobster-stuffed scrod. Everything was absolutely amazing — tender, juicy, hot, and cooked to perfection. The lava cakes we each ordered at the end were a wonderful finish to a perfect meal. I’m so glad we chose the Chart House for my celebratory meal. We will definitely be back.

Probably the most appalling experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Came here after a trip to the Aquarium which is about a one minute walk away from the restaurant. We were originally a group of 3 people, but were joined by 2 others later. We spent about 2 hours there, as we had time to kill. Service AT the restaurant was okay, and the waiter was actually very accommodating to our growing group, and the food was ok. End up paying and leaving our tips, and that was the end of that. A couple of minutes later, we see our waiter RUNNING after us. We all assumed someone had left something, but instead he started swearing and yelling at us about how we were bad tippers, and how he expected a «bad tip» from us, but didn’t actually want any of our money. This was horribly unprofessional, unexpected and unsettling, do be confronted in such a manner in PUBLIC. As far as I’m concerned, as long as you’ve got your uniform on and your restaurant’s name on you, your still representing them. Made a complaint shortly after, and of course haven’t heard back from them. If there was a lower rating, this restaurant would fall under that.

I visited the Chart House for appetizers and drinks on a Saturday afternoon. The drinks, staff, food and atmosphere is dynamite. I had a Fiery Cucumber Martini at the bar and it was delicious. It was cucumber, vodka and cayenne pepper among some other ingredients. A «must try»! Another thing you have to order is The Big Tuna. The presentation is beautiful, the fish is fresh and it is tasty. The coconut shrimp was also great. The Chart House also offers complementary valet parking after 5:00pm. It just keeps getting better here! Shoutout to Jerry, the GM and bartenders Joe and Charles. They are all fantastic.

***Update: 1÷15÷15 I got a call from Brian the GM and he apologized for our experience and asked if we would give them another try. He wanted to know everything that happened and was very apologetic. Because he followed up and was sincere we’ll give it them another shot — we’ll find out. So we went for Christmas dinner. I know not a great day to take a measure of a place or maybe it is?! Let’s see how they handle adversity. Unfortunately for the Chart House not so well. Service was sub par = Alex — for the prices and tip your expecting you need to try harder my friend. The food was again sub par for the prices = 30’s + for entrees. The apps were the best part of the meal = soup 3 ways(lobster bisque, clam chowder and gazpacho) and East Meets West(tuna tartar and seared tuna with plantains, wasabi cream and kimchi slaw) were REALLY good and highly recommended. — After that things went down hill. The salads were enormous but not very good(Caesar, Bib Wedge and Kale — best of the bunch) My entrée as an example — was the build your own surf and turf — I selected the filet and lobster tail. What was served was an over cooked(ordered med rare got med WELL and the lobster tail was ROCKLOBSTER tail ??? We are sitting 50 feet from the Boston harbor and they serve ROCKLOBSTERTAILS oh yea for an add on of $ 32.99 by the way! so that was $ 67 for an over cooked filet and a rock lobster tail looking while looking at Boston harbor!!! Needless to say we skipped dessert and felt like we saved money. — The best part of the experience was the valet parking = professional, courteous and fast. VERDICT = sorry Chart House we will not be coming back and can’t recommend.
