What’s that you say? Never had a Chilean sandwich? I hadn’t either, but thanks to the fine folks at Chacarero my stomach is full and my worldview is broadened. Located right near Downtown Crossing and open only on weekdays, this place serves breakfast and lunch. The traditional sandwiches are served with amazing sauce, muenster cheese, veggies and a mouthwatering meat duo(or single, if you’d prefer). Warmed to perfection and a pinch out of the ordinary, I highly encourage you to take a bite of something new. You won’t be disappointed! The format is a bit interesting — order and pay at what looks like a host stand and then make your way to the sandwich making station to pick your toppings. Then, sit down and enjoy the warm, fluffy, saucy goodness.

We tried this place because we wanted something different and it was AMAZING. I got the original chicken sandwich with extra avocado. I was a little thrown off by the green beans in the sandwich but they totally worked. They complimented the mild spicy flavor in the avocado spread. Definitely worth more than it costs(not expensive). The restaurant itself is clean, the staff is friendly, the atmosphere is warm. I tried this place last week and I’m going back today because I have not stopped thinking about that sandwich!

This is, by far, the best place in Boston to get a good sandwich which is worth it’s price. I eat there at least once or twice a week — and always get the Chicken Chacarero, regular. The staff is always very nice, the place is clean, and if you make it there before the rush(before 11:30), it’s fast too. I do have to say that the sandwich quality is not always the best — I’ve had a few sandwiches that were not so great — but, their sub-par is still better than most places’ best. Overall, highly recommend to everyone.

Usually when a place has a million Unilocal reviews and they average out to 4 or above, I can expect to also be blown away by this place. The long line at lunch(out the door) signified that this is a popular weekday lunch spot. Great. Awesome. I had been looking forward to eating here all week. I decided to get the combo(steak and chicken) sandwich, with no fries or anything else. Just everything — plus spicy. You order and pay pretty early on in the line, and you clutch the little piece of paper they give you until you come right up to the windows where your sandwich is being assembled. I laid it out in front of me and gently unwrapped the paper, exposing it in all its glory. The size was certainly intimidating, and I had only asked for a small. Then I bit in in. And I wasn’t blown away! Funny. I took another bite. The steak took a lot of chewing to get through. The chicken was lovely, though. And I really didn’t think the beans(despite everyone just railing on about how oh-so-much they add to the sandwich!)…really added that much. Anyway, solid sandwich. I’d come again to see if my taste buds were having an off day, but otherwise, I think there are other lunch spots in the area that I enjoy better.

Hands down, without a doubt, THE best sandwich place in the Boston metro area(that I have been to). Chacareros, or Chacas, is a Chilean flat bread sandwich that comes as either a small(which is pretty big) or large veggie, skirt steak, skirt chicken, or a mix between steak and chicken. I highly recommend the BBQ version as it is not your typical sweet sugary BBQ but instead a more savory, spicy and lightly marinated flavor. In addition to these ingredients, the sandwich comes with white flat bread, slices if tomatoes, slices of muenster cheese, salt and pepper, avocado spread, homemade either jalapeño or habanero spicey sauce(the extra hots is not to be taken lightly), and finally string beans. Now the last part is a little unorthodox but it gives the sandwich a little crunch and doesn’t overwhelm in taste. It is also optional as the cooks, nay Chefs, make the sandwich in an assembly line formation and you can tell them to leave it out if you want. Overall, there is no place that really competes with Chacas. Go there as soon as you can but make sure it’s during the week and before 6pm because they only have one shop and unfortunately they are not open on the weekends. Hurry!

I’ve never really had Chilean food before, but the sandwiches at Chacarero are delicious! I had a vegetarian chacarero and a side of sweet potato fries. The fries weren’t crispy, but still delicious, and the sandwich had just the right mix of textures and flavors. They are SUPER busy at lunch time, and the line was out the door still when we left(we sat down to eat in the tiny little dining area). But at least the line moves quickly and you can get in, order your food, pick it up, and sit down in about 10 minutes. The staff was super friendly, and they all move so quickly. The only reason I wouldn’t give them a 5-star rating is because, as I said before, I’ve never really had Chilean food so I don’t know how«authentic» the taset or selection is, or how it stacks up to other restaurants, but it’s definitely one of my new favorite places!

My favorite sammich in the Boston area. Be careful when asking for extra hot — these guys don’t mess around!

Maybe I’m a bit biased as a vegetarian, but they only had one meat-free sandwich option. The sauce was really good and I liked the green beans, but it really just seemed like a meat sandwich with the meat taken out. It could have used a little something more, especially since the bread was so thick.

Used to go to Chacarero at least once a week. I’ve been a customer since the owner had a cart outside of Filene’s(at least 17 years). Haven’t been back in about 3 months… not sure I’ll return again. I always used to ask for extra avocado on my sandwich at no extra cost. I don’t get the green beans, so I figure it’s a wash. Now they want $ 1.00 for an extra dollop of avocado spread on my sandwich! Not paying it and not coming back. No consideration that they’re saving money by not putting beans on my sandwich. I’d pay $ 0.50 for a dollop of extra avocado spread but a $ 1.00? That’s ridiculous. I can buy an entire avocado for $ 1.00. Not one ounce of customer service from the owner. He lost two customers today over a lousy $ 1.00. Great sandwich, very tasty but but be warned that you’re going to pay for an extra ounce of avocado.

I hadn’t been to Chacarero in over three years so it was good to come back to their tasty Chilean sandwiches and see that nada has changed. I went outside of peak lunch hours today so the service was exceptionally fast and there was no line. I forgot that you pay first and then bring your receipt to the counter where they make your sandwich with all standard ingredients or you can knock-off whatever you don’t want in there. I went with a large chicken sandwich today containing everything but the Muenster cheese and saved the second half for later in the day. For one sitting, a small sandwich would have been perfect. Glad this popular lunch spot is still doing well and still keeping it real with their sandwiches.

Chacarero is a ray of flavorful sunshine in an otherwise drab and dreary downtown. My love for a chacarero chicen bbq sandwich is as infinate and vast as the universe itself… Sorry, perhaps that’s a bit much — but it’s a killer sandwich. Savory home-made bread. Grilled and marinated chicken breast, avacado spread, hots(best part), cheese, slightly under-cooked green beans, tomato, salt and pepper. Perfection.

I love this place. A lot of people are weirded out by the idea of a sandwich with green beans on it but once you get past that mental block it’s one of the best sandwiches you will ever try.

The atmosphere is bright and cheery with the menu simply taking up a huge portion of the back wall. What they do is simple, home baked bread(yum) with chicken, beef or both. I tried the chicken with everything on it except the beans. The spicy level is up there but nothing serious. The flavor profile was fine, nothing special.

Popular lunch spot, if you can’t tell by the line. Regardless, they move people through fast. They have a pretty cool sandwich on pita, with spicy avocado spread and green beans. Two sizes — small and large — that look the same to me? Pay first, and then bring your receipt to the line where they will churn out your sandwich in 5 minutes flat. There’s not a lot of room to sit but you could probably find a seat before noon or after 1:30. This place fills up fast. The sandwich itself is pretty good. It manages to somehow taste wholesome and also spicy. I think I prefer the beef to the chicken but that’s a personal preference. Not sure I care for the green beans but overall a pretty delicious, filling sandwich.

I started my paleo diet only to be foiled once again by delectable meals and this was certainly one of them. I ordered the small BBQ combo which was a heavy snooze inducing portion in itself. Its a great family owned restaurant offering up fresh and whole ingredients in each bite. Coming here, I was skeptical about the hype, but after a few bites, I was sold. I’ll be back and paleo will be on the back burner once again. Oh shucks.

Great place for lunch. They serve delicious Chilean sandwiches that are delicious and easy to eat. They have chicken, beef, and combos(in regular or BBQ flavors), both of which are good. I especially like the spicy guacamole sauce. Gives it a nice kick, though not too strong. Comes to about $ 9 – 10 for a large or $ 8 – 9 for a small. Usually pretty busy during lunch. Have seen the line get out the door a few times, but it moves quickly. Definitely a go to lunch spot for me around downtown.

Delicious and not-too-salty(often a problem with downtown lunch places) sandwiches! Great for lunch because the sandwiches are well-designed to be eaten neatly. I sometimes avoid lunch places around noon at Downtown Crossing because they’re too crowded and the ordering system is Byzantine. To their enormous credit, this place has a well-designed and clear ordering system and a clear, simple menu. It makes for an efficient, as well as high-quality lunch. The folks behind the counter are friendly and welcoming. Including friendly when you accidentally present a random receipt instead of the order ticket to pick up your order! It’s a great atmosphere.

I remember back in the day when Chacarero was a food truck/food stand in Downtown Crossing. I kept saying… I’m gonna go check it out, I’m gonna go check it out… but never did. The smells coming from Chacarero were intoxicating though. Sigh. Then I stopped working in Downtown Crossing… and never really followed up on this awesome Chilean foodie spot… until this afternoon. I walked in and perused the menu for a little bit. The first thing I looked for was a vegetarian option for my husband, and then something for me. I got a large vegetarian sandwich/burger thing, and then I ordered a large combo(steak and chicken) for myself. All sandwiches come with muenster cheese, jalapeño sauce, tomatoes, string beans, tomatoes, and avocado spread. I got both with all these fixins to go. They added roasted red peppers to hubby’s vegetarian sandwich. :) I love that they were cut in half cuz they are HUGE. I ate the smaller half for dinner and saved the bigger half for lunch tomorrow. Hubs loved his and as for his review, he said, «I was very happy and satisfied; spices were evenly distributed throughout the sandwich and it was really good. I’d definitely go back!» There ya have it, Unilocalers. Chacarero! :)

I think I’m in love. Super tasty. Super cheap. Just super. I started working downtown and went to Chacarero one of the first lunches I had down there. As their sign says, a Chacarero is a traditional Chilean sandwich. Basically, you choose either beef, chicken, or both, and they make you a kickASS sandwich. It has steamed green beans, Muenster cheese, and tomatoes. Add in their delicious avacado spread along with salt and pepper and we’re in business. Every time I bite into a Chacarero my taste buds rejoice and reward me by giving me a burst of strength to last through the rest of the day. Literally the only bad thing I can say about this place is that the line at lunch can get to be VERY long. They have a system in place that makes it go very fast with ruthless efficiency akin to Al’s near South Station(not nearly as scary though). They somehow manage to refrain from messing up any orders in my experience and shuttle people through to their delicious fates. The menu has other options, all which are just as reasonably priced as the Chacarero. I’ve had their empanada before, which is very good, but tends to run out if you don’t get there early due to limited quantity. Honestly though, just get the sandwich, you won’t regret it. Pro-tip: If you’re feeling particularly adventurous ask them to put on their hot spread at the counter when you get your sandwich. It’ll put your mouth on fire. But in a good way. You know, the kind of food that hurts SOGOOD.

I had the small chicken sandwich today for lunch. It had chicken, avocado spread, muenster cheese and tomato on a roll. I found it to be a completely unremarkable sandwich. Everything about it was just ok. The bread lacked flavor and wasn’t very fresh. I should note that my brother got the large version of my sandwich and there didn’t seem to be much difference in the size. The employees were very friendly and quick.
