Butera School of Art

Butera was a great school. I cannot speak for the Commercial Art Dept, but the Sign Dept has produced thousands of working graduates still making a living today, off what they learned in the two year program.
There will always be negative comments about the school (as on here) but these usually were the kids that didnt give a rats ass about commiting themselves 100% to school untill it was too late. Trust me, Ive witnessed it all. I graduated in 1989 and have yet to go to a 9 – 5 ‘job’. I love my career and owe it all to taking the steps and making the commitment to Butera.
Modern Technology ruined Butera as it did for the same for printing industry, the advertising industry and the sign industry. its the ‘sign of the times’ People just dont appreaciate good ART anymore, its all about money and saving a buck… and thats sad.

well i feel very sorry for you folks… i went thru this school in 79 – 81 and learned a trade that let me live a life of freedom and means… i have had a great life in my choosen field of sign painting… suer, the computers have ruined the trade… but i still wow people with the tools that butera gave me… wouldn’t have changed a thing… and i have no regrets… tom mccarthy sign painter

I can see that Butera School of Art would not be up to today’s standards for training in Commercial art. However, I learned to really develop my skills in illustration while attending this school. I also learned a lot about the industry. After all, a school wouldn’t last as long as it did without being successfull. It was the the son of Butera and his greed that killed this school for sure. They should have kept up with technology and brought in teachers with knowledge on computer programs. I graduated in 1992 when computers just started being used throughout. I’m now 19 years into it and still use the skills I learned in illustration.

Just as I predicted, it is confirmed that this cash cow has finally folded. Prospective students need not apply. Now I will live my life with more regret of attending this dump of an ex-​school. Alumni should receive refunds.
