Boston Body Pilates

Took the Pilates mat remix class with Jess on Wednesday night and it was amazing!
Via class pass I have been to most of the studios in Boston and actually took another class here that I didn’t like and avoided the studio for a few months .
However this class with Jess was amazing! 50 minutes went by so quickly but I was sweating at the end and knew I was going to be sore the next day. She is extremely helpful and attentive and made the class fun– at one point we were going from standing jump to a pike on our back and I couldnt stop laughing — however it was a serious work out!
Jess made sure to come over to me at the end of class and check in!
I already signed up for next week and can’t wait!

Quick update just to say that reformer classes ARE available now on CP! I’ve taken the Pilates Equipment-​Reformer 101 with Arnold several times and it’s wonderful — a great class to take on your rest day/​if you want to do something not so intense. And Arnold is a hoot! So it makes it extra fun. That’s all. Everything else from my previous review stands true almost a year later.

Boston Body Pilates is «la crème de la crème” — hands down the BEST Pilates studio in Boston. I’ve been doing Pilates on and off for 15 years and have been going to BBP exclusively since I moved to Boston 5 years ago. They offer a wide variety of classes, from barre, to mat to equipment. Studio is gorgeous. The instructors are very knowledgable, sweet and focused on getting you the results you want through targeted exercises. I can say from experience, that the instructors are great whether you are a novice or an expert. The studio manager, Charlotte is lovely and extremely responsive, making scheduling or rescheduling so easy. I take private sessions with JJ, who is beyond wonderful. She works me hard, but doing all the Pilates exercises I love and makes me feel so comfortable, even when I am totally not feeling so comfortable with my body. I always feel better after a session with JJ. Love it here! Highly recommend!

I did my first barre class at this studio yesterday with Katie through ClassPass.
A coworker of mine would rave about barre and I wanted to try it out and this was the only studio that could cater to the day, time, and location I wanted. Since I’m a new member of ClassPass, I really do not have many expectations going in as I’m a gym member of planet fitness (enough said). When I first came to the studio, I did notice how small it was. You place your shoes along the wall wherever you can find space, and hang up your coat wherever you can find a place on a hook, even if it means hanging it up on another person’s coat. So that was my only con.
The class itself was great. I came in with the idea that barre was not going to be challenging, but boy was I wrong. It’s not an intense cardio class, but it really works and tones your body through different movements on the barre and on the floor using your own weight, a ball, and some light weights. Katie was a great instructor, even taking some time to help me correct my form.
I understand now the craze for barre and will definitely take more barre classes at this studio!

I have only taken barre class with Katie at this studio, but I love it. As a beginner, I have taken many barre classes all over Boston but Katie’s class made me feel the most comfortable. I suffer from pain in my neck and wrist and she always helps with modifications. She also recognizes the different levels that class participants are at and will often ask if we have any requests. The studio also has great customer service and is very welcoming.

I’ve taken several Pilates classes and I haven’t really loved them until I took Katie’s class on Friday morning. She was upbeat and positive. I injured my back and she kept on checking in on me to make sure I wasn’t in pain and I can could handle the movements. I’ll definitely be back to Boston Body for her class!

Update: I have completed two classes so far and am shocked that teachers don’t show you how to do something or correct you. Reformer class was ok, barre class was horrible. Everything feels rushed and on the clock. Instructors are not friendly either.
I attended a Pilates class today. I have been doing yoga for over 10 years and also have gone through the beginner Pilates training. Overall I was pleased with the experience. I have over 20 years of professional athletic training so am picky when it comes to studio, this one was not bad at all. However, I am not sure if I would go back.
Pros:
1. Nice and clean studio
2. Friendly staff
3. Good reservation system
4. Great location
Cons:
1. Class felt rushed
2. Beginner students were not doing things correctly but instructor won’t stop to adjust (was rushing through)
3. No warm up or wrap up — muscles need if especially in the winter

I have attended about 5 classes at this studio through my class pass membership. The first class I went to was a Pilates mat class. It was my first Pilates class not on a machine and I guess it wasn’t what I was expecting. This class isn’t a workout it’s more of a stretching/​yoga feel. I brought my mom who was in town visiting, and halfway through the class she had to put her sweatshirt on she was so cold! I mean I know it’s not a cardio class, but you should at least be warm, especially when stretching.
One of the worst parts of this studio is the instructors. I have only taken classes from Katie Lovell and Lindsay Bottari. I actually enjoyed Katie’s class until she snapped at me for explaining the move to my friend who was struggling. She didn’t understand the movement, and Katie wasn’t adjusting anyone’s form so I attempted to help her and was met with a snappy comment. It wouldn’t have been an issue if I hadn’t heard her gossiping to another instructor at the front desk about how «rude» my friend and I were during class! First of all, we’re all adults here and if you have a problem with me, just approach me and we can work towards a resolution. I found her response so childish and immature, not to mention unprofessional. For other class-​goers I hope this was a one-​time occurrence.
When I attended Lindsay’s class, she was also friendly at the beginning. Throughout he class though, she kept speeding up her counting so we would move through each exercise faster. It felt so rushed, and ten minutes until the class was scheduled to be over she released us from the class! If I didn’t reserve through class pass, I would have demanded my money back. If I am paying for a 45 min sessions, I don’t want to be released at 35! She seemed so bored and eager for the class to end.
Honestly, the only reason I would go back is during my end of the monthly-​membership of class pass when I have used up all of my available classes at the studios I love.
It’s such a shame because this is a great location and has such potential. I have not been able to try their reformer classes, because they are not available on class pass, but I’ve heard more positive feedback.

This is a really nice fitness studio with friendly, energetic, positive staff/​instructors! I always feel welcome from the moment the elevator doors open upon arrival to the moment they shut behind me when I leave (4^th floor, haven’t figured out how to take the stairs up/​lazy).
The studio itself is bright, clean and modern. There are two classrooms, one housing the reformer machines/​classes, the other for the floor classes (Pilates Mat, Barre, etc.). Take note: there is no locker room, just a single stall bathroom and plenty of cubbies/​coat hooks to store your personal belongings during class.
As previously mentioned, the reformer classes are not offered on ClassPass, so as a ClassPasser I haven’t tried them. I have, however, tried several of the Pilates Mat classes (All Levels, ReMixx, Sculpt w/​Props) and most recently the Barre class and I truly love them all. ReMixx is probably my favorite — it incorporates a bit of cardio into your traditional Pilates Mat class. I probably take All Levels most though, because it’s easiest to get into during the times that are convenient for me. It’s a great class; what I love most is that it’s different each time — some days it’s a bit easier, some days it’s tougher, you never know what to expect so it keeps it interesting and fun! Barre is surprisingly good too. Surprising because I generally dislike Barre. Boston Body’s Barre class is not as intense as Exhale or Pure Barre, but I still got a great workout in and definitely felt the burn. If you’re like me and aren’t into Barre, give this one a try before ruling it out of exercise regimen completely.

Ten years ago I got off on the wrong floor and ended up at boston body o took a private reformer class and I’ve been hooked ever since. The studio is a relaxing place to be and there is a diverse set of classes and instructors to work with. Boston body is more then a work out for your body it’s a mind body retreat! Boston body is a must try!

I have lost about 100 pounds but I still do not consider myself graceful, athletic or think I’m really capable of holding my own in classes but that’s ok at BTone! I’ve been hooked since January and for the entire month of March I took two classes a day. Every instructor is different and my favorite is Kristen. I love her Tone classes and her Tone N Torch. All of the instructors are very nice and are always quick to offer modifications. Once I even looked like it was too easy and Kristen made it harder for me! Very thankful for that so I didn’t feel I was wasting a workout. The mega-​reformer is terrifying looking. I’ve used it countless times now and I still get nervous looking at it but it’s basically impossible to fall off it or slip or whatever other insane thought I’ve had. And I’m clumsy so if anyone was going to fall, it would be me! It is MUCH more of a workout to go on their counts and go slow. By better I mean you shake and it’s hard and you think you can’t do it but once you do it’s amazing! I love this studio so much.

Just had my first barre class here via ClassPass and I am IN LOVE! So nice to finally have a real barre class in Boston.
I can’t wait to go back!!!

This is a gorgeous studio situated nicely at the beginning of Newbury St, close to the Common. I’ve never seen such a clean and organized studio upon entry.
I’ve only taken class from Tina and she is a ball of infectious, positive energy. She does a great job introducing you to the studio and providing a quick glance of what you’ll be doing in class. The Pilates Mat class is a great way to wind down your week on a Friday and the Barre class was so fun. Admittedly, I’ve hated every barre class I’ve gone to until I tried Tina’s class.
Boston Body Pilates also has the reformer machines, but they are not offered on ClassPass. Either way, check out the studio, it’s gorgeous, clean and welcoming and the classes are both fun and challenging.

I have been taking 4 – 6 classes a week (2 per day that I go) for a month and I have lost 7lbs! The only other exercise I’ve done is some walking on the weekends. All of the instructors and staff are very nice and helpful. My favorite class is Barre with Zayna, but I also like the equipment classes and mat sculpt.

The studio is very beautiful also!

I attended Zayna Gold’s barre class last night (Wed 5.30pm). And to update after my first review, I loved Zayna’s class — 5stars! It was tough in a different way to Kat’s class. Lots of similar techniques, but personalized to each teacher. Zayna is very knowledgeable about the human anatomy. For many of the exercises she’d explain what it’s working, where we should be feeling it and cueing us on proper form. She stressed a lot on having good form which I think is super important for maximizing the efficiency of the workout and hitting the right muscle, and not injuring yourself.
We started with dynamic stretching, then moved to the barre to hit the glutes/​thighs in various isometric holds with pulses. Then we moved to the floor to do some arms and leg work, then mats for abs. It was tough, there were lots of sections with burn.
If I had to compare this studio to Pure Barre, I would say the instruction is more personalized, the vibe is less superficial and way more about doing what’s right for your body (Pilates philosophy). In terms of the actual workout, it’s very similar to PB (both are derived from the Lotte Berk method) but with less burn, but still a good workout.
I really appreciated Zayna meeting each new person and chatting with them before the class to find out more about their barre experiences, any injuries etc. It was a real chat where she was clearly interested in you and your goals, history, preferred interaction with the instructor etc. She also remembers regulars and their issues with particular exercises (eg feeling it in the wrong place), and she checks up on them to make sure they’re working on or feeling the improvement. Very nice personal touch!

I had (and am still having) a great experience at Boston Body Pilates! I planned to join for just a few months, to shape up for summer, but I am enjoying myself so much I think I will continue my membership.
I had never done barre or pilates before, but the staff is very welcoming and are very helpful to beginners, even though there classes are for All Levels. The classes are lot of fun and the time flies by! I am not athletic but I actually look forward to going to class each day.
Another upside is that the space does not feel like a gym at all! It is very clean, with sofas and wall art.
The only downside is the price, but it is totally worth it for me to spend the extra money for a membership I actually use, as opposed to my BSC membership I wasn’t using at all.
I highly recommend it!

I’ve never had a more amazing workout! The staff is so friendly and welcoming that alone makes you keep wanting to come back. The classes are difficult and I’ve definitely seen results in a few short weeks. Also, the studio is very clean with lots of light which allows you to still enjoy sunny days even though you’re inside.
Overall, a great experience.

On a recommendation from a friend, I recently took a trip to Boston Body Pilates in the Back Bay. While I typically exercise by freelifting, bicycling, or running, I heard that this is a really good way to exercise other muscle groups so I wanted to give it a shot. I was skeptical about Pilates at first since I’m a guy and thought it was ‘girly’ but Jess really made my roommate and I struggle with her routine.
First of all, my roommate and I enjoyed the location of the studio since it was just a quick walk from the Arlington T stop on Newbury Street. The studio layout was really open and modern and all of the equipment appeared to be state of the art. The girls at the counter assured us that we would be fine in the workout (we were terrified) and introduced us to the instructor Jess. Jess was great and gave my roommate and I tips throughout the Barre class leaving us with a feeling that we were really welcome there. As I mentioned, the workout was extremely challenging compared to the intensity I get in my other workouts. The cool thing about the studio was that they had a few different class options (Barre, Mat, Sculpt, etc.) so I could try a few and not get bored. I definitely plan on returning to Boston Body to check out the rest of their class options and would recommend you do the same!

The 12 hour notice for group classes is quite ridiculous. I have taken Barre classes all over Boston at many different locations and this is the only studio that has a lengthy amount of time for a cancellation notice. I can see 3 – 4 hours notice being reasonable, but how are you supposed to know if any emergency comes up or you are sick, half a day before the class? Seems to me they are trying to tack on as many fees possible!

This review is for Boston Body Zayna Gold’s two dvd workouts. I bought the two dvds on a Gilt City promo a few months ago. I am always on the lookout to add variety to my fitness regimen. The first time I did each dvd I felt death. Used to pilates, running and yoga this was working muscles I did not know existed. Fast forward two months later, of which I did one of the dvds at least once a week, and my body has changed so much! My 30 yr old butt is perkier than it has been in a decade, my c-​zone, as Zayna calls it, has siginificantly decreased and well I just love the added definition my abs have. If you cannot afford the pricey barre classes around the city definitely give both dvds a try! (If you just get one I would go with the express one as it is prop free).
One day I hope to be able to do a studio class but for now I am happy getting a bit of Boston Body at home!

Boston Body is the best workout studio I’ve found since moving to Boston almost a year ago. It’s not only a gorgeous studio, but also in a gorgeous location. I’ve been taking Barre classes with Danae for a couple of weeks now and I couldn’t be happier. She is a fantastic instructor and the class is exactly what I need to shake up my typical gym routine. The instructors are motivating but pay attention to individual needs (such as my hurt knee) and the classes fly by!

I love the new Boston space at 14 Newbury! I was in Tuesday night for the first time since their move and I remembered why I love Boston Body so much. I took 530pm Equipment and 630pm Barre– needless to say my thighs are BURNING today! I have tried many different fitness programs in Boston and I keep coming back to my Pilates&Barre. Highly Recommend!

The new studio on Newbury is awesome and spacious. The Barre class I took had awesome music and the instructor was fun and had terrific energy. The class was extremely challenging and I definitely felt it the next day! They have a wide variety of classes and class times so I will definitely be going to check them out again!

THE BEST! I have tried many different types of fitness programs, trying to get myself to stick to a routine. Boston Body Pilates keeps me coming back for sure. Instead of dreading my workout, I am always so excited for my next class!
The studio is clean and gorgeous, and the staff is warm and welcoming. The instructors are great at making beginners feel included in class, and they are so positive and motivating. I saw major results (both mind and body!) after a month or two of barre classes. For equipment classes, I recommend Jessica R. She is extremely knowledgeable and fun to work out with!
Can’t say enough good things about this place :)
