My thoughts on leaving a review of a nightclub/lounge is either, you had a great experience, or it was down right terrible. I haven’t encountered a place where I’d say was absolutely horrid. Mostly, in all my experiences, it’s about the party you’re with and what the group’s definition of fun is, or what you make of it. My first impression of the«hip hop» floor itself is it is rather small. Apparently there’s a main floor that’s larger, of average size. There wasn’t a designated dance floor anywhere here. If the extra VIP seats/tables in the middle were eliminated, there would be indeed more space. The bar is also located right smack in the middle, making the room appear smaller than it is. Definitely a lounge type feel. The bouncers here I will emphasize are strictly business. I didn’t see any of them crack a smile once. They were pretty focused. I guess that’s a good sign? I recommend getting on the guest list($ 20) or reserving a table. Without the guestlist, its a $ 30 cover charge. The drinks are pricier here but they make it pretty good! Come on a Saturday night! We absolutely loved the music here, which is the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 3. Top Jams and Hip Hop!

Visiting Boston from Miami, and went here Saturday night. I came under the impression that Boston was not big into club culture, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that Tiga was performing. Really good sound system. I felt like I was back in Miami(for nightlife this is a good thing). Major downside was that the place closes at 2am but that isn’t the clubs fault. Would definitely return next time I’m in Boston.

Bijou is literally the worst club in the city of Boston and Boston Metro area proper. I have attended Bijou about six times within the last few years, five times for clubbing, and once for an after work drink mixer. The only positive experience that I have had with this establishment was during the after work drink mixer. I would say that the only positives are the music/DJ quality and the atmosphere. Besides that every time I have attended this establishment – it was far from packed and the male to female ratio was egregiously poor. I knew all of this prior to my experience going into the club on 5÷7÷2016 which annoyed me to the point of sounding the alarm and letting Boston locals and tourists, respectively know what they’re dealing with should they decide to patronize this club. For people unfamiliar with nightlife in the City of Boston, Boston is far from New York City or Miami in terms of nightlife. I grew up in the greater New York City area so I am accustomed to extreme pretentiousness and club drama. To touch more about the City Of Boston, all clubs have to be closed by 2:00AM, all public transportation shuts down by 12:30AM, the liquor laws are super extreme due to the Puritan history of Boston which can be seen in extreme ID rules at sporting events and liquor stores, as well as «no contact» strip clubs. My point being, Boston is anything but a top notch city for clubbing and nightlife. Bijou prides itself and try’s to present itself as a club located on South Beach. Bijou is one of the more expensive clubs in Boston, charging $ 30 covers, $ 15 for mixed drinks, $ 5 for coat check, and $ 700 for bottle service. None of which is the issue with Bijou because no matter where you go, clubbing it is often times priced at a luxury for the experience. The experience one is paying for is mediocre at best and the staff who works at the club makes the experience disrespectfully poor. So on to my experience from last night: One of my friends was celebrating his birthday and purchased a table. Me and four other friends(3 guys and 2 girls) showed up later and we found no line at the club. The first bouncer said what are we here for? I went onto explain that we were here for my friends birthday and he got a table. Next he explained to me that my friend already walked in with five other people and we would need to get him to add another bottle to the table to get us in which would run us about $ 150 or roughly the same thing as all five us paying cover. I said ok sounds good. The same gentlemen told me I would have to call my friend to come down which I did. He came down and they would not let him down and then the bouncer told me I would have to call him again and get him to tell one guy to let him through so he can talk to another guy who would need to talk to another guy. Moving on, over thirty minutes elapsed and we were still in the same situation with my friend having his Birthday night ruined because of all of the games and us no closer to being let into the club. Meanwhile while all of this was going on, a group of two girls rolled up and were let in immediately, a couple male friends of the bouncer were let immediately in, and an entire entourage who purchased an entire VIP section were let in. I walked to the front to see if I can see my friend through the door while more bouncers are telling me to get in line. I had it and snapped and said this if f******* ridiculous, this is not how you treat patrons to your club! It should not be a privilege to spend our money and purchase a bottle at your club! After I made a scene, they prepared to let me in and I said no F*** this club! How long does it take and how many people do we need to talk to for the privilege of spending money at your club? Additionally, how many Bijou bouncer/promoters does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Apparently like 8. Their lack of professionalism is astounding and spending one’s money here is better spent elsewhere. Bijou costs way too much to spend one’s money on such a poor experience due to the incompetency of the staff. That being said, I do not believe that the staff is truly incompetent, I believe their entire goal is to piss off their patrons being that when I made a scene they were finally willing to let us in. At that point I was past it and I hope my friend understands because I cannot rationalize giving my business to an establishment so unprofessional and annoying, giving that the experience inside the club on a given night is only mediocre at best. One is much better off patronizing a club that knows how to treat patrons with respect. Venue, Monroe Lounge, Candy Bar, Cure, amongst others are all much better options.

Not only do I own a business but I own a successful business that caters to probably half the women that go here. I was so disgusted with the customer service at this club I would never ever recommend it to anyone. The managers think they know what they are doing by acting as if this club is in Miami but it’s not! I had intentions on splurging on a table and a few bottles but after waiting so long to speak with promoters and watching him let all his people he knew in first I lost all interest to support this business. I will make sure when I here my clients mention this place that I send them to another club! You never know who your dealing with so treat everyone with respect…

I don’t understand the few stars for Bijou. I have been coming here for some time now and I love it. It has the best sound in Boston. It can get packed(but so do other clubs). If you are looking for mainstream EDM, this is not the place for you. Go down the road to Royale or Icon. Bijou plays techno and house. The other floor plays hip hop. Cover can vary depending on who the DJ is($ 20-$ 40). You can get yourself on guest list and pay the guest list price which is usually reduced by $ 10 or $ 20. They have great resident DJs who are sometimes better than the popular ones. Vinyl Disciples are amazing. The other great thing about Bijou is that it is well air conditioned. You won’t be sticky and sweaty next to other clubbers which is a huge plus. Crowd varies when you are here. sometimes good and sometimes bad. Dress code on week nights is more relaxed. Weekend tend to get more dressy. They have coat check as well for like $ 4(I think).

Overall quite disappointing. Went last night — decent DJ. Expensive cover charge($ 30) and security were unfriendly and on power trip Club had poor vibe. From 1am to 2am the club had clearly more staff than patrons. Good dancing and music if you want to dance with like a dozen or so people but otherwise quite poor.

This place is a joke. Met up with the girls from college for a reunion night and they wouldn’t let a friend in. We’re all from different states and they said«did anyone else have a Maine ID?» So they didn’t let her in. I didn’t believe the Unilocal reviews were true when I read them but they are true. EIGHT bouncers stood around an ID and they didn’t let her in. Ruined our reunion night thank you. Would give negative reviews with the bouncers if I could.

Do NOT let the low rating influence your decision, the people who write the low ratings DONOT belong at this type of venue. Yes it is expensive unless you’re on a list. Yes the drinks are expensive however you get what you pay for. Starters, the bouncer are really professional and organized. I believe I fit the mold of an ideal patron of this place and was treated well… if you happen to show up looking like you belong at PF changs and dollar shots-you will probably get stares… Anyways, the music is great, great acoustics, the servers are beautiful… the bartenders are perfect 10s and the table girls have the perfect build… great eye candy. Also, I like to people watch when going out, its a great place to watch other patrons go nuts… I would give this a shot, not a Boston club by any means… Ill add this to my list of «go to» spots.

On the positive side, the music here is good. But that’s probably the only upside. Living in Boston, I’ve learned to adjust my expectations — I don’t go to a club thinking that it’s going to be on par with NYC, Miami, LA, Vegas, Paris, etc. Cover charges, dress codes, pat downs, etc, you know what you’re getting into if you go to a place like this. But, no matter where I am, I would expect service to be respectful unless given cause for it not to be. So, be warned: Bijou probably has the most pretentious bouncers I’ve ever met in my life. On my most recent visit, it actually seemed like these guys were going out of their way to be horrible. Congrats management on assembling the city’s most power-tripping, apathetic white males to ‘guard’ your doors. I know these guys deal with a lot of drunk people, but in all of the cities I’ve ever been to, I’ve never seen bouncers be so nasty without provocation. They were being extra about the sidewalk, but I appreciate that they don’t want any issues out front or to attract police notice. For the most part, I get it, they deal with drunk people and are just following the rules. But, I was part of a group with a table, and arrived after everyone else, so my friend came outside to bring me in. When we went to the door, the bouncer was nasty saying that my friend could come back in but I hadn’t been in yet so I would have to go get in line. I look down to the«line» and there is no one waiting, but just another bouncer at the end of a walkway barrier. If there were actually people in line I would get it, but ok, fine, if you want to exert your power by making me walk 25 feet down and back just to go through another person, even though there is no one waiting down there, then ok. But, you don’t have to be aggressive and nasty to us– I was shocked at how he talked to my friend– I’ve never seen anything like that when he was doing nothing wrong– it seemed like he was purposefully trying to intimidate him. I have never been made to feel almost unsafe or threatened by a bouncer before– I was worried he was going to start something with my friend, who is a big guy too. Hoping that was just a one off issue, I say fine, and walk down to the other end. When I get down to the other bouncer guy, he’s now in the process of arguing with a girl who was drunk. They are busy exchanging insults and talking in circles; he’s refusing to let her in. I couldn’t care less, but as a sober and paying customer, you’d think he’d tell her to hold on while he checks me to let me in. He does stop to let in two girls that he clearly knows as they hug and then he tells the drunk girl who’s now even angrier that they are regulars. Meanwhile, I’m still standing and and waiting in the cold in a nonexistent line while this guy plays favorites and continues to return insults with drunk girl. During this, I see the same rude bouncer from before telling my friend he can’t wait for me in the doorway(problem solved if someone will just let me in your stupid gate). At this point, I’m getting annoyed and am almost ready to leave rather than deal with this ridiculous situation. I make one last effort to get this guy’s attention and say hey, my friends are inside with a table, I’m just trying to meet up with them. Then he goes, oh you’re just by yourself? Ok, go ahead. Uhmmm if you had bothered to respond to my attempts to talk to you while you were insulting drunk girl, you’d know that. Once inside, I was underwhelmed with the crowd and the badly designed space. Wet floors and broken glass weren’t cleaned up quickly at all. And when it comes closing time, the bouncers were back in prime form. I’m not mad at you if you’re just doing your job, but the attitude/comments from the bouncers were absurd– all of them clearly on a power trip and happily being as nasty as possible to people. Why spend money to be treated badly when you can just go to another mediocre club where you can be treated with dignity/like a human being. I had low expectations for this place, but somehow they still managed to shock/surprise me at how terrible of a place this is. Hopefully this review saves someone else from an experience like mine.

Went for NYE15 and it was a bit of a ratchet experience. The crowd was sloppy and spilling drinks all over the floor. While this is expected on a night like NYE, I’m disappointed in Bijou’s lack in even attempting to mop or clean throughout the night. The floors were completely soaked and created a dangerous environment for all. I slipped in a puddle by the bar and got completely soaked in spilt liquor, ruined my dress and badly bruised my elbow and knees in addition to being mortified for the rest of the night. I saw many others fall in that same puddle or others throughout the club. A random girl then threw up in the middle of the floor and it splattered onto my legs. I waited about 20 minutes and never saw someone come to clean it up so at that point I chose to leave the club disgusted in what I had seen. I’ve been to many nightclubs in NYC, Miami and Vegas in which the moment a drink spills, a worker is cleaning it up as the club would be liable for any severe injuries. Overall, Bijou needs to step their game and professionalism up. They charge people a lot of $ to buy a ticket ahead of time, yet there was no separate lines for ticket holders. We still waited 45 minutes in the cold with people who didn’t have tickets, so what did we buy a ticket for? The coat check was also disorganized which is such a simple thing to tighten up. This night at Bijou definitely tainted my Boston nightclub experience and probably will not go back again.

This was hands down the worst experience going out in Boston ever. Being from New York City, I have high expectations towards nightclubs and, having worked in the industry, I can honestly say This place was god awful. I honestly don’t know where to begin. I was constantly being pushed around by bouncers, while trying to leave this venue early(leaving one of my favorite djs set midway through). While we are on the bouncers, they did nothing about the people pouring drinks on others, guests kicking and pushing people out of the way. Sorry, but they probably shouldn’t get paid tonight. You should go ahead and give my friends and I the money to split for putting up with this mess for the few hours we did. At first we were mad about the venue not opening at 10(the tickets said 10pm and we got there at 10:45pm and were told to leave) +1 for customer service!!! Just kidding. We finally we able to leave, after having to explain to all 12 bouncers who were blocking the exit and wouldn’t let us leave… Isn’t that a fire hazard? Do I report that to the fire department? Or just wait for the place to burn down? I’ll be okay with either. I would love to keep going, but I’m trying to erase this godforsaken night out of my memories. So cheers to you Bijou! Thanks for booking a bomb ass dj, getting me all excited for a great night and managing to COMPLETELY ruin everything. Talk about blue balls. P. S. One of those bouncers that didn’t do his job told us that this place sucks. If that doesn’t speak volumes I don’t know what does!

Bijou is one of the best nightclubs in the area. The music is good, the crow is good too, but the reason why it holds the title is because of the people that the promoters tend to bring to host some of the nights. So keep an eye on the calendar and you might be able to catch someone you have been trying to see for a while. On the weekends, Saturdays, they have two floors open but the HIPHOP space tends to get the most crowded and wild.

The only place around that routinely gets good DJs. They are obviously interested in people who know who Gesaffelstein, The Magician, and Lee Burridge are. If you don’t know who the DJ playing is(or you don’t care what DJ is playing), it may not be the club for you. There are plenty of other places with mediocre residents who will play Top 40 and Hip Hop dance remixes. As far as Boston clubs go, its a 10⁄5. I’m sympathetic to people who leave mediocre reviews in comparison to clubs in other cities. I am not sympathetic to people who leave bad reviews because the drinks are expensive(these DJs are EXPENSIVE, its the cost of getting them to come to Boston when the bar closes at 2). Nor am I sympathetic to the fact that they wouldn’t let in you because it was too late or you were dressed poorly. Yes the bouncers can be kind of dicks sometimes, but that’s basically the job description. The place is typically packed if they have a headlining DJ in the house, and the people who care buy their tickets in advance. Most of the rest of the clubs in Boston(Royale, Venue, Whiskey Saigon, Tunnel, etc.) are like a basement frat party compared to this place. It’s not for everyone, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised by Bijou. I’m the type of girl that prefers club shows to festivals(okay, fine, I prefer warehouses but there’s very few of those in Boston that’s publicly advertised). I go clubbing on nights where a DJ I want to see is spinning, buy tickets in advance, and never pay at the door. And I don’t do tables. Bijou is the deep house /techno club. The acts that they bring in within these genres of dance music are rather impressive. Names like Croatia Squad, Tensnake, and Pete Tong are coming up for September and I give them a nod of approval for this, I really do. I don’t love deep house or techno, but I will go to Bijou for some good music. Even on the most crowded of nights at Bijou, I’ve never needed to wait in line(once again, I pre-buy my tickets). The sound system here is probably one of the best in Boston. But man, they keep it way too fcking loud. Loud to the point where my boyfriend and I drove out to Braintree and bought ear plugs after we realized our ears got shot after our first Bijou night. All in all, if there was one club I had to choose to go to, I would choose Bijou(though Icon is up and coming and they cater more to trance music, which is 110% more my scene). It’s no Cielo in NYC(my favorite club of all time), but it’s similar enough for me to develop a sense of fondness toward this club.

READTOAVOIDSCAMS So, I normally don’t make reviews of clubs but this one HAD to be made. I go to Bijou A LOT, since it’s the only place you can listen to decent techno in town. Now today I woke up and checked my credit card and saw that I have been overcharged more than 20 $ in TIPS that I NEVERLEFT. It is not the first time they overcharge me the TIP, and it’s happening on and on and on and on… Well this is bullshit. Make sure you pay ONLY with cash, by now they probably charged me over hundreds of dollars of tips I never left. Once I left my credit card at the bar after I payed, realized it when I got out of the club, they didn’t let me in to get it back and even when I called and left my number they never called me back to give me the card, thank God I blocked it right when I got out, God knows what those wankers would have done with it. Music gets 5 stars but the rest can just go to hell.
