5STARS Absolutely love this taco shop! They have the best chunky salsa around. Excellent service, the girl in the morning made the secret recipe for the salsa, a hint of orange. I love the bean tostadas and the Shrimp Camarones. Yummy! I used to live in Lemon grove and went to the Cotijas there for 10 years. They have amazing red salsa too but since I’ve been going to this location for 3 years I rarely go back because the food is prepared much less greasy and everything is fresh! There is also many $.99 options to choose from on several days other than taco tuesday. FIVESTARS

Haven’t been here in about a year. Shrimp quesadillas are usually REALLY good. Only reason I go to Cotijas. Not anymore. Shrimp felt like rubber. No flavor whatsoever.(Rolled tacos were terrible too) Guess Im looking for a new place for my shrimp quesadillas. A place that uses fresh shrimp!(Lolita’s shrimp quesa is OK. Not the best. But better than what I had here)

Salsa bar got nerffed — not all the salsa is out anymore. iPads at the counter — takes longer to order New staff — making smaller portions and going slower than usual with no passion. Not the same joint I had grown to love:/

This place is really good. Cheaper than Lol it as across the way, waaay shorter lines/wait and the service is a lot better. Bean and cheese burritos are bomb and Carne a safe fries are great for sharing. Habenero salsa is a must!

I been to Lolitas and yes waiting for the food takes forever every time. They piss me off. And then the food comes out and the portions are just not what it used to be. So I called in Cotija’s to order lunch. We ordered the steak and egg burrito, Carne asada fries, and a tamale. The burrito was huge and stuffed. It was just plain steak and eggs but I drizzled Pico salsa in every bite. I would get it again. The Carne asada fries were good except if the fries cooled down it tasted stale but other than that every topping on it was very yummy and generous. The tamale was okay. It’s served with thinly sliced iceberg lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, and too much red sauce on tamale. I’ve had better. Their salsa bar is on point. Everything tasted fresh and very spicy.

Second time ordering from this place. Now I remember why I don’t order from here. I ordered the shrimp soup. What I received was vegetable soup. Very little shrimp and it tasted like vegetable soup not shrimp soup. My brother had the shrimp a la diabla burrito and what he got was a rice burrito with some shrimp.

The best tostadas! Especially made with pollo asada!

This was my first time here today. I ordered two tacos and a soda. The tacos were delicious. They were made into corn tortillas that were filled with Connie Asada and Pollo Asado. The woman behind the counter can you order needs to smile a little bit more. She didn’t seem to be too happy. The food was good and I will be back.

Ok where should I start. I’ve been here twice to order a breakfast plate and both times they overcharged me 1 dollar. Second I was promised the first time they would make the correction and they still haven’t corrected it. Third I ordered a machaca con huevo is plate and this time they used shredded beaf that wasn’t dry in other words regular shredded beef. Last time I checked machaca and shredded beef weren’t the same thing. Now if you google machaca it says in some places where the dried meat isn’t readily available they sometimes substitute it for slow cooked roast beef or skirt steak and then fry it. This is San Diego and last time I checked it’s readily available everywhere so no excuse there. What should I expect for a place that can’t even match their menu with the price they charge. Typical lack of attention to detail here.

I always come here they have really good food. The cheese enchiladas are yummy. The breakfast burritos and cane asada fries are also really good. I haven’t tried anything here that I didn’t like. It’s never busy like Lolita’s and they have a mini salsa bar too :) way better than Lolita’s

I am giving them 3 stars just because I really really like the potato tacos and the habanero salsa. But this time I order two potato tacos and in one taco there was barely any potato in the taco and some on the other one. A little disappointed mostly Bc I was very hungry I ended up with one taco and chips and salsa. Very disappointed:(I was really hungry

Once the quality of Lolita’s started to go down, my family gave this place a try since it was local and just a stone throw away from where we used to go. We’re *very* happy we found it, though! The food’s pretty darn good, the prices are just right, and it’s just a nice little place to grab Mexican when you don’t feel like going to a sit-down restaurant. My suggestion is to get their(soft) carne asada tacos with guacamole and pico de gallo. Simple, but delicious.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! We’ve been coming there for about 3 years now. They have a LOT to choose from on their menu, the prices are reasonable, the restaurant is always clean, and the service is very good! Everything that I’ve had from Cotija’s has been absolutely YUMMY! Their rolled tacos, guacamole, and cheese quesadillas are the BEST. Breakfast burritos are to die for, stuffed to the max, and they’re are HUGE! I would have given them 5 stars, but on a recent takeout order, I received ham, diced peppers, and cheese quesadilla instead of a cheese quesadilla. Other than that, I will continue to be a repeat customer; their food is great!

Love this place. Always get Cotijas after weekly shopping at nearby Vons. The fish rolled tacos are a must. I also love the humongous burritos – my top 3 are the hash brown burrito, shrimp burrito, and pollo adobado burrito. Great prices for great(big) tasting food.

I love the Mixto Soup. My honey loves everything it seems. This is better than Lolita’s as it does give bigger portions and you are not waiting for what seems like hours at Lolita’s for food. It is also in a convenient location with a lot more parking available than Lolita’s.

Cotija’s gets three stars for the food and 5 stars for the service and cleanliness, etc. The rolled tacos were good– as you can see in the photo, I ordered them with extra lettuce, cheese, etc. Definitely the meat has a in-house roasted flavor and there was a decent quantity. Even though I asked for extra guacamole, I thought the additional amount wasn’t generous enough for the charge. As I was taking note of some of the reviews for Cotijas– I saw the photos of the great salsa bar, which is well-stocked, however, the green salsa was on the richter scale of about a 1.5, like not even mildly spicy so I quickly understood that this was more of a tomatillo salsa«fresca», rather than a smoother+creamier textured green sauce with some kick — which I prefer. [like at La Mesita’s which is kickass awesome!!] It was very fresh, well made and has a really nice lime flavor that shows through on the palate for sure. That would be great with carne asada or with fish tacos I’m betting. I really don’t know why they call it an avocado salsa, as there is no evidence of avocado in it. My journey out of my way to Bonita also brought me to a side order of good ‘ol beans. Now, I’ve made batches from scratch and NO batch of pinto beans when blended is an opaque whitish tone… no…waaaay too much lard in these folks; [ Note, the flavor was good, just totally bummed that there was no flavor of having had the batch started with pork or bacon… or anything. They were milky. Just seems like a bad cheap recipe for a food staple that is cheaper to buy than dirt. I guess this is the part of the review where I give five stars to the extra chilled Grapefruit Sculpin’ I am enjoying while writing this. Yes, I thought I’d have to have a chaser after the«shizzle» of heat as one review read for that avo salsa, which turned out to have no heat. Cheers Ballast Point!

I wish there were more stars I could give this place! I stopped in on my way from work late Friday night(just before closing) Ann greeted me with a huge smile(which is rare for most places about to close after a long day) & suggested the taco special for the day I got the shrimp, fish, and potatoes tacos for a $ 1 each. Not knowing these were full size tacos I ordered ten. Thinking they were the smaller tacos seeing that the price was so low. I was definitely shocked when I got home the quality, taste l, freshness, the whole dinner was great! That you so much for ending my stuffed night on such a good note :-)

I love this place! My mom & Grams have come so much that my default they know me too. I figure that if they don’t know my order when I walk in the door I’m not a regular, right? Any who… quality flavor & adobodo is hands down the best. They are not cooked equally mmmkay! Ooohhh & the Avocado salsa is the shizzle! Some places add too much lime & salt. Cotijas makes it just right. Happy, happy yum yum!

THEIRGRANDEBREAKFASTISTHESIZEOF A SMALLBABYCOTIJASISKILLINTHEGAME. Anyone from San Diego who hasn’t been to the one on Bonita Rd is out of their minds. The prices are such a steal for the portions they offer and the food is so top flight you would be blown away. I EATHERELIKE3 x A WEEKNOLIEFISHTACOSFORLIFE and today I had the shrimp quesadilla and I’m sooooooooo spoiled by this fine San Diego living and that meal has taken my existence over the top. The chicken quesadilla is packed with thick layery goodness too

It’s a hit or miss here I suggest not getting anything with guacamole, cuz idk what it is but it sure don’t look or taste like it. The Diablo shrimp burrito here is sometimes amazing and other times just mediocre(shrug). The fish burrito i ordered on two different occasions and they were good both times. I tried their rolled tacos and seriously they were the worst I’ve ever tried(the consistency of the meat, didn’t taste like meat) and it had the mysterious guac on there. Idk how anyone could mess rolled tacos up but DONTGETITHERE! I’ll try giving this place a try again on a Friday for their $ 1 beer battered fish and shrimp tacos.
