Very bad place ! Very bad service ! I don’t recommend this place to anyone ! Even with few customers, the hotel management was very lazy ! In ordered a biryani, and it took more than an hour !! No update and communication with the customer at all. And the taste sucks!! please don’t waste your previous time n money ! Y

Amazing Indian Food. We had the Keema Samosa, Korma Chicken Curry, and Butter Naan. The samosa was hands down the best samosa I had. The meat and veggies inside was very delicious and very fresh. As if it was wrapped and deep-fried right before it arrived to our table. I had no ideas what to expect with the Korma chicken curry since the description on the menu seemed a little vague. But after eating it I can understand, because it’s hard to explain what I’m tasting. I had asked for normal hot and it was ok hot. It was hot enough to tingle, but not hot enough to make your nose runny. It was very yummy and distinct from the typical curries you get elsewhere. The butter naan was naan with butter. Fairly typical naan. A little too much butter for me tho. Overall. I cannot wait to try their buffet. Nom! Nom! Nom!

I absolutely love this place. I’ve been here twice now and have many plans of coming back. The first time was for dinner, and my brother and I split a lamb curry and garlic naan that were ridiculously delicious. The second time was for lunch, after I made my friend come try the food. We both got the lunch buffet and loved the samosa and curries. The best part were these little syrup soaked bred balls(not sure of the name) that were a great desert. I highly recommend this place, and particularly the naan.

Amazing food with full flavor! The curry +cut option on the menu is great for two to share or for one very hungry person. Definitely would come back here!

This is hands-down some of the best Indian food I have ever eaten. Every dish is prepared for you, fresh. You might be thinking«hey, aren’t all dishes prepared for you after you order them?». This is different. They make the dishes from scratch when you order it. And you can tell. I have been here several times and every time it has been absolutely amazing. They have a wide variety of dishes from vegan, to vegetarian, to full of meats. I was able to get a curried goat dish here most recently and, while it was a bit boney, the flavor and texture(not the bones, of course) were incredible. They also have a very good wine and beer list which means you’ll be able to find a beverage that perfectly complements whatever you have ordered. I would make some recommendations on what to order, but you’re going to be pleased with whatever you get. Seriously. It is definitely worth visiting.

My boyfriend and I were really excited to try the buffet here as we had called during the holidays and were told there was no buffet while their mother was visiting India because her standards were too high and she wouldn’t let them do it on their own. Obviously we were intrigued. We regularly go to Bombay Grill in the Idanha for their lunch buffet and leave stuffed and satisfied and licking our lips, we were thinking that this buffet must be even BETTER. On the positive, the owners were very friendly and funny and the mango lassi is delicious. I liked that there was a salad bar and a selection of sauces even if none of the sauces really hit the spot for me. The vegetable samosas were tasty and fresh. So that’s why the two stars. The run down: We paid $ 34.00 with tip for two people and mango lassi. We tried EVERYTHING on the buffet line between the two of us. There were maybe five or six items(compared to tons of options for the same price at Bombay Grill). Unfortunately none of the main dishes were labeled. There were only two meat options, chicken in a coconut based curry and meatballs(???). The findings: The naan was long in coming and crispier(??) than I’ve ever had. A garbanzo based dish with undercooked almost crunch garbanzos was inedible. The meat-balls tasted like pre-packaged, processed meat-balls(coming from the boyfriend). The chicken dish sauce was«meh» and the chicken was incredibly dry and inedible. A cauliflower dish was passable. A potato based dish had decent flavor but was very oily. A mysterious watery curry with no meat or visible vegetables was good for dipping naan in. A couple of other dishes were«meh» with an immense amount of oil. I couldn’t finish a single serving of any of the items. My boyfriend, who loves to eat dug-into everything, but is now sending me messages at work saying he has horrible heart-burn. So, the verdict? As lovely as the staff were we won’t be going back for the buffet or otherwise. Save your money and head to Bombay Grill!

This is a staple restaurant for me in Boise. I love Indian food and there aren’t many options around here. This place is in a great location and the owner is hands down the friendliest business owner I’ve ever met. Lunch buffet is a great value!

The food is consistently amazing. The service is consistently terrible. 15 minutes to get acknowledged for the first time by the server. A half hour to get the first glass of wine. We’ve been here an hour and a half and our entrees aren’t served yet, which would make me upset were it not for the fact that we’re too sympathetic to the couple next to us who were here when we arrived and haven’t been served yet either. Another table walked out unserved 45 minutes ago and it’s not clear that the servers noticed. Seriously, Taj Mahal, invest in basic restaurant service training and you’d be far and away the best Indian restaurant in SW Idaho. The food is worth not destroying the experience with incompetent servers.

MOUTHWATERING, HEALTHY, and AFFORDABLE! I’ve been going to this place with my dad for nearly a decade, back when the owners still had the location on 5 mile. The restaurant has always been beautiful and the food authentic, with aromatic spices and delicious flavor. It’s truly THEBEST Indian cuisine in Boise or the treasure valley for that matter, and the atmosphere is sexy, perfect for a date, luncheon with coworkers. Or solo lunch buffet ;) That’s why I give this place 5 stars on the food and atmosphere alone. However, much love and appreciation for the hardworking owners, Sohel and his lovely wife,(she has been making consistent, delicious food from scratch for over a decade)… They remember my dad and i from years ago when I was still in highschool and consistently enjoyed their buffet on a regular basis. They truly get to know their guests and are beautiful people, and for that they will always get my business. Their new location is downtown Boise on the second floor If you are new to Indian food, try their buffet so you have many options to try! Or if you know what dishes you like, go for dinner. You will be very pleased to discover this fabulous place.

A restaurant truly deserving five stars — I don’t give ratings very often but Taj Mahal definitely deserves a great rating. Why? The service was wonderful, the food is delicious and made with wholesome ingredients, the serving sizes are large, there are plenty of vegan options, the atmosphere is lovely — it’s really a beautiful place, and the bathroom is impeccably clean and beautiful as well. It’s rare to find so many qualities in one restaurant. You can tell that the owners genuinely care about the quality of the food and the customer’s experience.

Loud Tvs playing Bollywood music, strong curry smell, slow service, substandard Indian food, sounds like most Indian/Pakistani restaurants in US? Well this one is definitely not one of those. Décor; very warm with rich red colored walls with exotic Indian artifacts. Service; very humble and down to earth. The owner himself comes to check on things, which was a very nice touch. Food; true Indian/Pakistani flavors and prepared fresh. The menu has lots of options, from vegan and vegetarian to all meats each prepared with different kind of curries and sauces. To start the meal I’ll recommend the vegetable samosa. Three come in one order, great for 2 – 3 people. As for main courses, the Chicken Madaras. It’s blend of coconut milk and curry spices makes it the right taste of spicy with a hint of sweetness. The Palak Subzi Dal was also cooked perfectly. The vegetables with spinach paste was a great twist. For the end of the meal I’ll definitely recommend the Rice pudding. It’s very creamy and flavorful.

My dining companion and I came in tonight for dinner. This was only my second time eating at their new location on 8th street, but I used to go all the time when they were out on Fairview. I am pleased to report that the food and service were both still just as amazing. Same owners who are so sweet and helpful. I had the chicken Biriyani and my husband had the lamb. It was so delicious, very savory and aromatic. We also shared a pot of chai tea which was the best in town, in my humble opinion. Not too sweet, just milky and full of spice. The atmosphere is very pretty and relaxing. Plus parking is super convenient being that you are right next to the parking garage. We will definitely be back soon!

I find the great reviews for this place a bit confounding. It’s the worst Indian buffet I’ve had, ever. Everything was bland, all the ingredients tasted prepackaged. The meatballs I’m sure came from a bag in the frozen food aisle somewhere. Since when do Indian people eat meatballs anyway? Damn you Bombay Grill for being closed today.

The Taj Mahal Boise is by far the best Food I have ever had! I have been coming here for years every time I visit Boise. I travel between Scottsdale, New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles all the time and have never found a place that even competes. The food is cooked from scratch freshly every day! Every single dish is extremely well engineered and Tailored for a dynamic family dining experience. If there was only one restaurant I could recommend, this would be it. Enjoy your meal!

We were in town on business and decided to go for some different cuisine, very happy that we did! The food was outstanding, made from scratch, the service was great, all the way around it was an incredible dining experience! I rarely take the time to do a Unilocal review unless it was an over the top experience as this was! Check them out, you won’t be disappointed!

We were visiting from Portland Oregon and wanted to get something other than a burger in our road trip. Called in a takeout order, was quoted 45 minutes wait. We got there to pick up 45 minutes later and were accused of being early and my wife waited another 15+ minutes for the food. The restaurant was fairly empty so she couldn’t figure out why our order took an hour. We requested mild because we have a 2.5 year old. It was fairly spicy so we washed the veggies and chicken in the sink. Palak Paneer… paneer was below average. Chicken tikka masala was ok. Naan was below average. Rice was great. Overall averageish Indian food, but fairly overpriced for what we got and the wait. Will not return.

LOVE this place! It’s located right on 8th street, so super convenient and easy to get to. I don’t remember exactly what we ordered, but overall the nana bread, curry, and appetizers were all delicious. Sometimes, they sell mango lasso(is that how you spell it?) which is basically a mango smoothie and one time, the server let us take our entire glass bottle home! The second time we came in, the owners remembered my friend and I and even where we had sat. They obviously pay attention to their customers and care about their business. Not to mention, they were very nice! Totally recommend this place. Who ever said Boise didn’t have any cultural food?

My friend and I really enjoyed the lunch buffet here. We love trying all kinds of curry and discover the our favor ones. We sat outside. Here’s no napkins around and it’s a little dusty. Just few areas to improve.

Went for the lunch buffet. The owner was friendly and helped us through our first visit there. The buffet had many options but we visited during a time where several dishes and entrees were out. They made the missing entrees fresh and everything was downright delicious! One of my favorite dishes was the one with cauliflower(not sure of the name). Also, their Naan bread was the best I’ve ever had! Overall, this was a pleasant experience with friendly staff and outstanding cuisine!

This review is going to read a lot like my review of Maru Sushi, so here goes: After being spoiled with the amazing Indian food in Portland(Plainfield’s Mayur), San Francisco(Naan n’ Curry), and Los Angeles(Manohar’s Delhi Palace), we were a little sad to move out to Boise, where we sort of figured mostly white people lived. Couldn’t have been more wrong! After striking out at a few pedestrian restaurants(Madhuban, Bombay Grill), we found Taj Mahal. This is easily, EASILY, the best and most authentic Indian restaurant we have ever tried. Be ready for a wait and don’t complain about it. Mom is the only cook back there and she is making just about everything from scratch. And it is really, really worth it. So order some garlic-coriander naan, enjoy a beer from their surprisingly large and awesome menu(or bring in a bottle of wine [$ 10 corkage fee]) and get ready for some spicy awesomeness. Buyer beware: if you order your food prepared at the authentic spice level, you will get your ass kicked. In a delicious and pleasing way. I can’t speak highly enough of this restaurant. They took great care of us on our anniversary and I even got some terrific marriage advice from one of the owners. If you fancy yourself an Indian cuisine fanatic, you must try Taj Mahal. Not for the faint of heart or palette!
